FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Dear parishioners

A few years ago, Holy Father Benedict XVI in his homily stated that the Scripture, the Word of God should be our Star and our Guide: “… let us allow ourselves to be guided by the star, which is the Word of God, let us follow it in our life, walking with the Church, where the Word has pitched its tent. Our way will always be illumined by a light that no other sign can give us. And we too will be able to become stars for others, reflection of that light that Christ made to shine over us.”

We live in the world where we have many

“stars” and “idols” that we want to follow, or we try to act like them. We read various guides to be successful, powerful or happy, but today’s feast reminds us that true happiness comes from finding God in our lives and in the lives of others. How do we find Jesus in today’s world? We will find HIM by listening to his voice which comes to us from the Holy Scripture. If we find more time to read the Bible and to reflect upon the Word of God, we will be able to see God’s plan for us and we will be more compassionate and understanding towards others. As we all try to make many New Year’s resolutions for our wellbeing, may reading the Bible would be one of them. We are children of God and, so it seems logical to listen to God’s Word since children should listen to the guidance of their parents. May the Word of God lead and illuminate for us the path toward Jesus in year 2018.

I would like to say a sincere THANK YOU for

your generosity and kindness towards me during this Christmas Season. Thank you very much for all your gifts, cookies, candies, cards and words of encouragement and appreciation. Even though I am away from my “biological” family, you have been more than the family to me and for this I am grateful. Another Thank You goes to all of you who made our Christmas Season so beautiful and prayerful. To everyone who helped with decorating the churches, choir members, altar servers, lectors, distributors of holy communion, ushers and to anyone who helped in other ways: THANK YOU.

Have a blessed day Fr. Martin
