01 OUR ORIGINS
CHARLES SIROIS, Founder and Global Chairman, Enablis Entrepreneurial Network
IN 2003, I TRAVELED TO SOUTH AFRICA FOR THE FIRST TIME TO IMPLEMENT, WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AGEN-CY (CIDA) AND ACCENTURE, THE PROJECT WHICH WOULD LATER BE CALLED ENABLIS. AT THAT TIME, ENABLIS WAS NOTHING MORE THAN A PROTOTYPE FOR A MODEL OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BASED ON JOB CREATION IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. I AM PROUD TO SAY THAT ENABLIS IS NOW THE LARGEST ENTREPRENEURIAL NETWORK IN AFRICA.
FROM SOUTH AFRICA, IT HAS EXPANDED TO EAST AND WEST AFRICA AND EVEN SOUTH AMERICA. ENABLIS HAS UNDOUBTEDLY SUCCEEDED IN PROVIDING ITS MEMBERS WITH THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION CAN THRIVE.
ENABLIS IS NOT ONLY A MODEL BUT RATHER A SOLUTION HELPING THOUSANDS OF MEMBER ENTREPRENEURS GROW THEIR BUSINESSES AND CREATE JOBS FROM THE GROUND UP. IT FACILITATES PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING AND MENTORING, ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND ACCESS TO FINANCE TO ENSURE ECONOMIC STIMULATION AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SUSTAINABILITY.
PEOPLE AND JOBS ARE AT THE HEART OF ENABLIS AND THIS IS WHY WE FOCUS ON DEVELOPING THE ENTREPRENEUR, NOT SUPPORTING THE ENTERPRISE. THE AFRICAN EXAMPLE PROVES IT: WHILE HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE PRO-VIDES EMERGENCY RELIEF AND GOVERNMENTS FACILITATE EMPLOYMENT, IT IS UP TO THE BUSINESS SECTOR TO CREATE JOBS. HELPING PROSPEROUS AFRICA IS THE SOLUTION TO ALLEVIATE POVERTY AND BREAK THE CYCLE OF “DONOR MONEY”. IT IS BY BRINGING BACK THE DIGNITY OF RUNNING A BUSINESS, OF CREATING JOBS FOR ONESELF AND FOR OTHERS THAT A NATION CAN BE EMPOWERED TO CHANGE ITS DESTINY.
ENABLIS IS ESSENTIALLY A CALL TO ACTION TO ALL THOSE WHO WANT TO CON-TRIBUTE TOWARDS ENABLING ENTREPRENEURS AND REDUCING POVERTY. SPONSORS, PARTNERS, DONORS: THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO ACHIEVE A COL-LECTIVE IMPACT FAR BEYOND YOUR INDIVIDUAL CAPACITIES. JOIN US AS WE ARE TAKING OUR ENTREPRENEUR DEVELOPMENT MODEL TO NEW CONTINENTS WHERE IT WILL BE USED BY GOVERNMENTS, ORGANIZATIONS AND PEOPLE TO CREATE VALUE.
ENABLIS NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT AND I INVITE YOU TO HEAR THIS CALL; WITH YOUR HELP, AS WE EXPAND INTO MORE COUNTRIES IN AFRICA, SOUTH AMERICA AND ASIA, WE WILL PUT MORE ENTREPRENEURS ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS.

05 OUR PEOPLE
Operating at the grass-root level in developing countries, Enablis empowers local entrepreneurs and supports them in the growth of their businesses in conjunction with government, private sector and civil society.
To reach our ultimate goal of reducing poverty through expo nential job creation, we have put in place a unique entrepreneur development model: 1. We identify promising entrepreneurs at the SME level; 2. We nurture their pro-fessional and personal development; 3. We provide them with networking, coaching, mentoring, skills acquisition, training and fi nancing.
What defi nes us is our commitment to enable our entrepre-neurs to break free from a subsistence business to a business that creates jobs and positively aff ects communities. Enablis members are “poverty-killers”. In Africa only, they have created tens of thousands of jobs since 2004.
By extending our support to entrepreneurs in developing countries around the world, we are helping boost the SME sector, create value and transform local communities on a large scale.
“ENABLIS’ APPROACH TO ENTREPRENEUR
DEVELOPMENT IS THE MOST INNOVATIVE
IN THE WORLD.”

WHAT IS ENABLIS14 OUR VALUES
We focus on the entrepreneur, not the enterprise.
The entrepreneur is in the driver’s seat. It is his/her
personal skills, problem solving capacity and business
acumen that determine the outcome of a business.
We develop a strong member-focused network
of peer entrepreneurs. Each member entrepreneur
derives value from the network as well as creates value for others through
experience and knowledge sharing.
We provide a robust capacity building platform based on our one-of-a-kind
methodology mixing networking, capacity
building and fi nancing.
We make sure to use Information and
CommunicationTechnologies (ICTs)
as an enabler, assisting the delivery of our world-class training
services to our members.
We create strong partnerships with private and public sector entities
who share a common desire to propel the development
of entrepreneurs and ensure economic growth
and job creation.
We believe that a better entrepreneur will make
for a better citizen and will create
sustainable prosperity.
WHAT IS ENABLIS16 WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE

/\/\/\/\
Our entrepreneurs create shared value for themselves and the people living around them. Since the fi rst years of Enablis’ operations, the annual member survey conducted by an independent research fi rm has demonstrated that Enablis has been fulfi lling its mandate to provide world-class standard programing and support to its entrepreneurs. Developed through our unique methodology, our members have not only succeeded in growing their businesses but have consistently created new job opportunities.
Across Africa only, tens of thousands of full and part-time jobs have been created since 2004, with many more households benefi ting from both the direct and indirect jobs created.
“THANKS TO ENABLIS, I AM NOW
TEACHING MY KIDS TO BECOME
ENTREPRENEURS, NOT EMPLOYEES
WORKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE.”
DOUGLAS CHACHA, Enablis member in Kisumu, Kenya
WHAT IS ENABLIS18 OUR IMPACT AT A GLANCE
ABOVE ALL WE HAVE
EMPOWERED OUR MEMBERS
TO GO FROM DREAMING

WHAT IS ENABLIS 19 OUR IMPACT AT A GLANCE
As such, Enablis’ impact extends well beyond the member entrepreneurs and includes their families, their employees and ultimately the economic well-being of their countries.

WHAT IS ENABLIS20 OUR IMPACT AT A GLANCE
2002: Launched at the G8 Summit. 2003: Enablis is founded by Canadian tele- communications entrepreneur Charles Sirois, Founder and Chairman of Telesystem, and global consulting giant Accenture. The organization receives seed funding from the Canada Fund for Africa, which commits $10 million. Mid-2004: Enablis opens its South African offi ces in Cape Town, settles its African headquarters in Johannesburg and begins expanding its model into other African countries. 2007: Enablis accredits its 300th member and expands into East Africa with the creation of a fi rst chapter in Nairobi, Kenya. The chapter is the basic organizational division of the Enablis network. Enablis entrepreneurs are grouped by region, city or community in chapters to maximize networking and learning opportunities. 2008: Two chapters open in Tanzania (Dar Es Salaam) and Kenya (Kisumu). 2009: Enablis Ghana is launched in Accra
2009: Having successfully proven its entrepreneurship development model across Africa, Enablis embarks on country feasibility studies in Latin America, with the support of its founding partner Accenture. This study leads to the selection of Argentina as the fi rst country to launch the Enablis model and as a base for further expansion on the continent. 2010: Enablis Rwanda is launched in Kigali. 2011: With the support of the Accenture Foundations, Enablis opens the doors of its Argentina offi ce in Buenos Aires, expanding beyond Africa for the fi rst time. END OF 2012: Enablis reaches more than 2,400 accredited members working in a variety of sectors, from fi sh farming to fashion design and online game development. BY 2020, we expect to be present in 15 countries and have over 25,000 entrepreneurs in our network.
