Message from the President

Hello my fellow Ellers!

I hope you are all doing well. It is Spring Break season here in Texas.

God has blessed us with glorious weather all week. The temperatures

have been in the 70s during the daytime and in the 50s at night. The

clear blue skies remind me of my growing up years in Arizona. I have

enjoyed sleeping with the windows open. No heating or air-conditioning

necessary.

Next week I will be visiting my dad, Verlie Eller, out in Arizona. I am

hoping for some equally glorious weather there. Dad has had a family of

ducks visiting in his pool. I imagine they will be heading back to their

northern home in a little while.

I hope you are planning to block off a few days in July to join us for our

Eller Family Association conference/reunion. It will be held in

Hiawassee, Georgia this year. We had hoped to go to Richmond, VA but

due to unforeseen circumstances we’ll be meeting in Georgia. The

information you will need for planning purposes is all here in this issue of

the Eller Chronicles.

I am looking forward to getting reacquainted with you and meeting

some new “cousins” in July! See you in a few months!

Your EFA President,

Lauren

ELLER FAMILY ASSOCIATION

Minutes of the Board of Directors Meeting

Dec 9, 2012

The Board of Directors of the Eller Family Association met via conference

call at 9:00 PM Eastern Time, Sunday, Dec 9, 2012. The following

members of the board were present: Lauren Liggett, President, Ed Eller,

Vice President, Director, Joe Eller, and Secretary/Treasurer Karen Pelzman.

The President called the meeting to order at 9:10 PM EST.

Karen is working on next year’s EFA Conference to be held in Richmond,

VA July 24 to 28, 2013. She is working on getting lower room costs.

Tom had asked about the balance of funds available for the DNA project.

The current balance is $1,358.00 of which $650.00 is budgeted and available

for the fiscal year ending July 31, 2013. An EFA member is considering

donating funds to the EFA to be used for DNA testing for members who

cannot afford the cost. Tom will follow up on this.

The National Genealogical Society has an annual Family History

Conference each year at different venues. They have various sessions you

can attend. Visit their website at NGSGENEALOGY.ORG for information.

This year is being held May 8-11 in Las Vegas.

Items are always needed for the Chronicles. Please forward articles to

Chronicles Editor Randy Poplin,

The meeting adjourned at approximately 9:30 PM EST.

The next BOD conference call meeting will be at 9:00 PM EST on Sunday,

April 14, 2013.

Respectfully Submitted,

Karen Pelzman

…from the desk of the Secretary/Treasurer

Spring is finally almost here…and it’s my favorite time of the year!

I would like to thank Ed Eller for taking over the task of the EFA

Conference. I was not able to get it together in Richmond, VA and was

not able to handle the logistics from Colorado. At the time I offered to

handle the conference in Richmond, I was in Tennessee and it would

have been doable, but Colorado is a lot further away and I didn’t have

much luck finding a suitable venue.

Our family also suffered the loss of 2 more family members – Kevin

Cullen, the husband of our sister Mary Russelavage-Cullen passed away

in November and our cousin Vicki Lynn Clamp, whose mother Mary

Eller Clamp was the daughter of Cleveland A Eller of Ashe County, NC, a

descendant of George Michael Eller, passed away Dec 24th.

Blue Ridge Scenic Railway – Friday, July 19th

, 2013

A great family adventure on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway starts at the historic depot

in downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia.

The train winds alongside the beautiful Toccoa River with one stop in the twin

border towns of McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee.

Our regular 4 hour trips (3 1/2 hours trips on Sundays) are 26 miles, round trip,

winding along the beautiful Toccoa River for one hour (each way) in vintage climate

controlled rail cars or open air rail cars

Our Depot is tucked in the charming mountain village of Blue Ridge, Georgia within

the lush Chattahoochee National Forest. This area is known as the “antique capital” of

Georgia with friendly folks and an old time atmosphere.

Total excursion is 26 miles round trip. Passengers can choose from vintage climate

controlled rail cars or open air rail cars.

The relaxing ride starts at the historic depot, built in 1905 in downtown Blue Ridge,

then makes one stop for a layover in the quaint sister towns of McCaysville, Georgia

and Copperhill, Tennessee.

Copperhill/McCaysville is one town with two names because it is split by the GA/TN

State Line, where visitors have a two hour layover (one & half layover on Sunday);

plenty of time to eat lunch, shop for unique crafts and antiques, snack on ice cream,

or walk across the old bridge in town to view the river. Then, re-board the train for

the one hour return trip.

Verlie Lionel Eller’s 90th

Birthday Celebration (Photos contributed by Anna Marie Bliss)

Lauren Liggett, Kent Eller, Anna Marie Bliss, Ed Eller, Lois Hardy and Lionel Eller

Verlie Lionel is turning 90 years old and neither myself nor my sister Lauren

can remember dad ever having a birthday party. We had a 90th family

birthday party for Mom and then a 70th Wedding Anniversary celebration.

We wanted something different for dad. Someone was telling Pat, dad's

caretaker, about a good Christian Gospel & Bluegrass band. We decided

that this would be something different for dad's birthday.

It turned out that we had 46 people at dad's birthday and he was thrilled.

Many people who he had not seen for a while came. We also had the band

play some of the songs we knew dad liked. One song being I'll Fly Away.

We had the party when Uncle Kent and Uncle Ed and Aunt Lois came to

visit. The party was on the 16th of December. This worked out better than

dad's birthday which is December 25th.

Dad was so happy that his family had come to visit him plus he just kept

saying; 46 people came to my party. This was indeed a special birthday for

him.

Eve. Born to George V. and Mary D. Clamp, she is survived by her brother Jim Clamp, her sister

Susan Stewart, great Aunt Selma Eller, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends. Vicki

was fiercely loyal, loved family, good food, jazz, dancing, Glenwood Springs, her birthday, and

Christmas. She never knew a stranger and made each person she encountered feel special and

cherished. Her smile lit up a room and her genuine laughter was contagious! She said the best prayers,

always remembering and honoring those who were ill or serving our community or country. Vicki was

a great teacher of patience, compassion, but above all, love. She is greatly missed and her time on this

earth has changed lives forever. In lieu of flowers, please love deeply, forgive freely, and live

peacefully. Memorial Celebration 2:00PM, Saturday, December 29, 2012 First Congregational
