Project Assumptions

Social Profit Calculator (SPC) have produced a forecast report to understand the potential social impact of the Pagabo investment in The Education Alliance (TEAL) Be Well project.

This investment has been drawn from the Pagabo Community Investment Fund with the aim of supporting schools and pupils with mental health problems. This report outlines the Social Return on Investment (SROI) of TEAL Be Well project.

The project will be delivered in two parts:

1. The delivery of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to teachers and staff within 3 schools as part of an early intervention to identify mental health problems experienced by children and young people.

2. The provision of professional mental health support to pupils through referrals from MHFA to reduce the long term impacts on public services to improve children and young people’s wellbeing.

3. The provision of additional Mental Health Training and Support to teachers, parents and pupils to raise awareness of mental health issues.

The project will be delivered by Hull and East Yorkshire Mind (Mind), a mental health charity who will be delivering wellbeing services across 3 schools in Hull and East Yorkshire. These schools include: South Hunsley, Driffield and Snaith. Mind will deliver MHFA training to staff at each school as well as provide mental health support to children and young people.

MHFA training in schools is central to improving staff awareness and understanding of mental health. This training will also increase their confidence and ability to deal with mental health problems in children and young people as they arise. Mental health support is also key factor in ensuring that children have the best opportunity to achieve their aspirations.

This report outlines the potential social impact of Pagabo’s investment in the TEAL Be Well project. The calculations which support this report have been based on a number of assumptions:

1. There will be 1 mental health first aider per 50 pupils – this means that there will be a total of 88 mental health first aiders across the schools over 4 years.

2. Mind will provide 18 hours of support for each school per week which will include 9, 1-hour counselling sessions and 9, 1-hour write up sessions.

3. The average length of a counselling session to support 1 child will be 9 sessions – this means that 208 children will be receiving mental health support across the schools over 4 years.

4. Additional mental health training and support will be provided to 538 beneficiaries which includes 200 staff, 200 parents and 138 pupils over 4 years.
