2. Polly’s predicament
• The construction of the extension to the Melbourne Exhibition and Conference Centre (MECC) proved to be a catalyst for Polly.
• Her facility needs could no longer be ignored or down-played. A new docking facility was essential for her future preservation and part as a centre-piece for the precinct.

• Major Projects Victoria tendered the design and construction of a docking facility mid 2008
• Contexx were successful and their proposal included a removable gate
• Any design had to be endorsed by Heritage Victoria

• Refurbishing the timber walls proved to be too expensive for MPV
• Concern was raised about the structural integrity of the existing walls and tie-backs/anchors
• A dock within a dock was the proposed way ahead
