The CONNECTION December 2017 Newsleer Angels Among Us: #DoNotBeAfraid The angels that appear in the story of Jesus’ birth would have been very comfortable in our world of tweets and hashtags. Their messages were often short and to the point–their favorite line being #DoNotBeAfraid. During worship this season, we will look at the stories of these winged messengers to Zechariah, Mary, Jo- seph and the Shepherds. We will think about what messages we can offer to others that will fly in the face of a culture of fear; and bring more hope, more peace, more joy, and more love to the world. The English word “Angel” comes from the Latin angelus as one who has a message or one that “announces.” Every angel story in the Bi- ble includes an invitation for someone to be involved in what God is doing. An angel shows up and says that God is doing thus-and-such, and wait; you are going to be a part of it. We are invited to become God’s messengers in our culture of fear. Think of the message of hope. I can think of the name and the face of a person right now that needs me to be a messenger of hope. They need my call, my visit; they need me to be there. We can be messen- gers of hope that fly in the face of fear. Thanks to our worship committee who created the wonderful altar and decorated the church. Thanks to our scripture readers, adult and children choir members, adult and youth bell ringers, violin play- er, giver of children’s messages and to all our music staff who are leading “Angels Among Us: #Donotbeafraid”. #morehopemorepeacemorejoymorelove Rev. Angels Among Us: #DoNotBeAfraid

The angels that appear in the story of Jesus’ birth would have been very comfortable in our world of tweets and hashtags. Their messages were often short and to the point–their favorite line being #DoNotBeAfraid. During worship this season, we will look at the stories of these winged messengers to Zechariah, Mary, Jo-

“BLESSED TO ME” STEWARDSHIP UPDATE

Our 2018 Stewardship Campaign is entitled “Bless to Me: Generous Givers that reflect God’s blessings.” Our worship committee created a beautiful altar arrangement to il-lustrate the messages during the Steward-ship Campaign. To date, $220,712 has been pledged to the General Fund and $23,576 to the Food Pantry Ministry. Thank you for your gifts that allow us to create and implement ministries that change lives, transform com-munities and spread the good news of Christ.

“SING JOY TO ALL THE WORLD”

This years Cantata will be held on Sunday, December 3rd. It is titled, "Sing Joy to All the World!" is a brand new composition by Lloyd Larson. "We gather to tell the story of Emmanu-el, God with us! We gather to remember this story, to wait, and watch for Him to come again - even now. Come, Lord Jesus!" The overriding theme of this inspiring Christmas work is joy. It celebrates the promise that joy comes to those who wait; that following the long dark night, the breaking of dawn brings joy for the new day. The music incorporates original melodies with famil-iar carols in a work that ranges from contempla-tive to celebratory, to many other styles. We hope you enjoy, "Sing Joy to All the World!"

As a congregation we raised almost $1,200 with “Change for a Child at Christmas”! Thanks for your generous donations of coins and bills! As a church we have been able to sponsor about 120 children! What a blessing!

This Advent, we are embracing our mission a God's messengers, bringing #morepeace, #morehope, #morejoy, #morelove, and #morelifeto the world. Our worship committee has been hard at work creating beautiful altar arrangements to illustrate the Christmas sermon series, “Angels Among Us.” Their décor was featured on Worship Design Studio’s” Facebook page!

THANK YOU WORSHIP COMMITTEE!

“THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER!”

MEMBER UPDATE

We welcomed several new members into our church in November. Below is a list of their names and contact information. Also, listed is the updated contact information for the Snyders.

Members of Jefferson United Methodist visited the Ashe Civic Center on Sunday, November 19 to see the hilarious play, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!” The play followed the outrageous she-nanigans of the Herdman siblings, or “the worst kids in the history of the world.” The siblings take over the annual Christmas pageant in a hilarious yet heartwarming tale involving the Three Wise Men, a ham, scared shepherds, and six rowdy kids. Our 9:00 musician, Andrea Gardner, pictured bottom right, played the role of the director the Christmas Pageant.
