The alumni publication of the Center for Values-Driven Leadership

Summer 2018 | Issue 5

From the Director, Jim Ludema

This year we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Center for Values-Driven Leadership. If the CVDL were a child, it would now be reading chapter books, doing long division, and better at using technology than its parents.

This edition of the CVDL Insider is more evidence of how far we’ve come as a center: new grads, new research, new pro-grams, and more. We’re looking forward to celebrating these accomplishments with you at our 10th Anniversary event on November 9. Perhaps more importantly, we’re looking forward to creating the future with you. Thank you for the important ways you invest in our Center, and in the cause of values-driv-en leadership.

Crossing the Finish Line: Ten Grads from Cohorts 1& 3 Complete Program

June 2, 2018, was the blue sky and sunny sort of day you dream about. For 10 CVDL students, it was also the fulfillment of their dreams to complete their Ph.D.s.

One student from Cohort 1 and nine from Cohort 3 completed the program. (For a full list of graduates, see the next page. Several other students from Cohort 3 are nearing completion of their dissertation

Celebration Planned for Nov. 9

News & Updates from the Center

Ciao, Italy!Benedictine was represented well at the

International Society for the Study of Work and Organizational Values Conference in Trieste, Italy, July 2018. Many of the travel-ers, with their partners, are pictured above.

Special congratulations goes to Dr. Jean Russo Gould (C2) and Dr. Wally Baehrend (C2) for their co-authored paper, “Does Passion Pay? The Return on Values for Passion Qualitatively and Quantitative-ly,” which won the 2018 Rami Sagie New Scholar Award (the only award given at the conference).

A full list of presentations and papers is found on page 9, along with additional photos.

The Center for Values-Driven Lead-ership turns 10 this year. To celebrate, we are planning a November 9 gather-ing of alumni, students, faculty, visiting scholars, and friends.

The celebration will begin with a Senior Executive Round-table featuring Dr. Barbara Fredrickson, the world’s leading positive psychology

scholar. Best known for her “broaden and build” theory of positive emotions, Fredrickson will speak about the role of positive emotions and how they can help sustain behavior change. This event is open to the public.

A private reception and dinner for our closest friends (including you!) will occur in the evening.

Cohorts are encouraged to sched-ule reunion parties before or after the events. Watch your email for additional details and registration information.
