The Creative Mission Thank you for participating in the MARCH Professional Development day. It was really a treat to have the high school teachers join the ele- mentary and middle school teachers and discuss the students in Gener- ation Z and how they learn. The engagement during the “curated conversations” was fruitful and energized. I pray you take the time to reflect on this year’s victories and challenges and discern a vision for the 2018-2019 school year. Tips for success: Empower students - have them lead a lesson or group Incorporate pop culture - connect the old with the new Flip lessons - Assign videos as homework and then discuss in class Gen Z loves to solve problems - give them a “purpose” Give them choices for assessments and projects - cloning is not good Remember the 4 Cs Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Thinking And most of all…have fun! He peopled it with living beings, and that was the grand, divine, eternal Drama."

Sent to ImplementNEW! Art and Music Standards for K-8 TeachersThe 2017-2018 Professional Development plan for the Arts was to focus on writingArchdiocesan standards. Music and Art teachers met as a group and looked atstandards, selected a template, developed TEKS aligned standards, and embed appro-priate Catholic elements. Through collaboration, the standards are complete and readyto be implemented for the 2018-2019 school year. The next step is to develop a pacingguide for the scope and sequence, however, to respect creative license, I will berequesting personal syllabi from a few of you and offer them as “samples.” This willbe helpful for new teachers as well. Thank you for your help and I look forward tolearning about your new lesson plan writing experiences with the new standards. Findthem on the Fine Arts webpage!

The communities selectedfrom across the United States for the initial cohort of a nationalCommunity of Practice have demonstrated cross-sector collabora-tions to deliver rigorous, effective Pre K-16 instruction in STEMlearning.”The Archdiocese Catholic Schools is part of the cohort and willhave access to many resources as they become available throughthis program. “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever islovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think aboutsuch things and the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:8). I was delighted tohear about stage productions with strong gospel values at our schools including: “TheLion King” at Antonian, “Godspell” at Mount Sacred Heart and “Seussical” at St. PeterPrince. Over the summer, as you discern your performance music and shows, artthemes and theatre production season, keep in mind our commission to evangelize -even if it is in subtle ways. Be the salt and light - for your students and school community.Take time to watch some inspiring movies such as “Mr. Holland’s Opus”, “Sing” (1989film), “Drumline”, and “Loving Vincent.” Plan on catching a few FREE musicperformances around town or art shows. And…please let me know if your are IN theshow as well!!! I would LOVE to see you and your work. I hope to hear from you inregards to joining a committee and also planning for Convocation Mass music.Have a safe and restful summer.
