I took the opportunity this year to attend the Fourth of July
parade in downtown Newnan, accompanied by my seven year old
granddaughter, Sophia Grace. It sure brought back old memories. I
can recall watching the parade on that same street corner in the
early 1950’s when I was her age. Back then, the bright red fire trucks
were my favorites in the procession and still are today. Even now,
the little boy in my spirit wants to jump on the back of that fire truck
and speed away on an adventure to save a blazing house! Some
things just don’t change.
There’s another thing which hasn’t changed - the desire of a person or business to
communicate their message to the public. It’s called advertising and was evident in its’
most basic form at this years parade. There was a man, walking alone in the parade,
carrying his message, hand lettered, on a piece of tan cardboard cut from the bottom
of a box. It worked! Others were marching with elaborate banners or had professional
looking signs on cars and trucks. There were also floats using visual themes and
period costumes along with their written message.
My favorite, however, was the Hispanic entry for
the La Fiesta Restaurants. They used lively music and
dancers in bright costumes to both entertain and
inform their captured audience. Cooks and waiters
proudly walked in front of the float wearing shirts dis-
playing the “La Fiesta” name and logo. They did all
this with flair and showmanship which can’t help but
cause us to remember their restaurant when we’re
ready for a tasty Mexican dish. That’s effective
advertising!
Good quality print advertising, direct mailed, will always be needed to introduce
us to the products and services offered in our area. That can be followed with addi-
tional information via the company’s web site as needed. Beginning next month, The
Coweta Shopper will have the ability to introduce advertisers in our paper, then pro-
vide a “Click Through” to some of those businesses on our own new web site. We
hope you will use this tool to make your buying experience more pleasant and
informative.
As always, I invite your comments and suggestions to help us make The Coweta
Shopper an interesting and effective advertising medium.
You’ll be seeing a lot more of us now!

The Benefits Of Home Staging by Nan Johnston of Southern Staging & Redesign
Before & After of Investment Property
With all of the foreclosed properties available, investors are buying them, making repairs and improve-ments and they either rent or "flip" the property. Proper-ty flipping refers to the purchase of a real estate byinvestors and quickly reselling it at a higher price in justa matter of days or a few months. Investors look forproperties that are under-priced and whose values canbe marked up after some renovation.
Not only is competition stiff in the sale of these prop-erties, but the number of available rental properties isincreasing with the purchase of all these investments.Apartment complexes have decorated models to showprospective tenants, creating appealing competition fora landlord.
When it's time to take the next step and sell or post aninvestment property for rent, home staging is a greatway to ensure the best return for a hard-earned invest-ment and a great tool for an investor to have in their
investing kit.
Most buyers or tenants find it difficult to visualize thepotential of a house, so it is the job of a savvy investor tohelp them along with ways to visualize themselves livingin the property.
In an empty room, there is no frame of reference. Itcan be confusing as to how they can use the room. Whatis this room? Is it a dining room or home office? How bigis this room? Without furniture it can be difficult to tellthe scale and size of a room. Empty rooms actuallyappear smaller than those with furniture.
Although this investment property had recently hadthe hardwood floors refinished and had been freshlypainted throughout, it still needed some “fluffing” by aprofessional home stager to make it more appealing.
By just adding a few furnishings and accessories, apotential tenant or buyer can judge the size of the rooms, and get an idea of how to place their belongings in thespace.
Which room would you find more appealing?

Meet Laura Westbrookof
The Veggie PatchRight on the corner of Highway 29 and Hal Jones Road
there is an unpretentious little produce market that sellssome of the freshest fruits and vegetables you'll find inCoweta County. It is, of course, The Veggie Patch, and isoperated by its founder, Laura Westbrook.
Selling produce is a long tradition in Laura's family. Her father, Ivan Mullinax, started his store in 1959 next tothe Farmer's Market just south of Atlanta. Laura and herfive siblings got plenty of "on the job training" from anearly age, each doing what they could based on their ageand ability. They literally learned the business of farmproduce from the "ground" up. When the present sitebecame available seven years ago, Laura felt the timewas right to blend her knowledge of produce with a greatlocation. It worked!
As the business grew from part-time to seven days aweek, Laura needed more employees. Her job wasmade easier with the help of Tyler Deal and Steven Wil-hite, who helped when not in high school. Three yearsago, Janie Owens came on board and is now manager. When asked why The Veggie Patch is such a popularplace to shop, Janie proudly says, "We sell the best qual-ity fruits and vegetables, pleasingly arranged on ourshelves, combined with great customer service". (They
Pictured left to right: Janie Owens, manager, and Laura Westbrook, owner, of The Veggie Patch
have been known to even write thank you notes to loyalcustomers.) She and Laura buy from local farmers asmuch as possible, stocking a wide variety of fresh, goodtasting produce. Twice a week, items which have losttheir color but remain delicious to eat, are boxed anddonated to the Welcome House in Newnan. Everythingelse is guaranteed fresh or your money back.
So, next time you think your microwave is overworkedheating processed food, or that "Spam" sandwich does-n't quite hit the spot, visit The Veggie Patch where you'llfind "real food". But best of all, you'll sample their sin-cere customer service along with a friendly smile.
The Veggie Patch, 1502 Hwy. 29 N, 770-304-0674
"We sell the best quality fruits andvegetables, pleasingly arranged onour shelves, combined with greatcustomer service".
