Musical chairs. It’s a game we played in grammar
school where six children would march to music
around a group of five chairs. When the music stopped, those
six tried to jump into five chairs. The loser dropped out and
we started again with four chairs – and so on. That seems to
be the way it is in presidential politics. Every four years, the
candidates play musical chairs, dropping out along the way
until there is just one chair and two politicians. And, as in
the old school days, those last two players can get pretty ag-
gressive!
Finally, now, there is one man sitting in one chair. Half the nation are celebrating while
the other half are “crying in their soup”. It seems that every election cycle brings on
a new fear that the world, as we know it, will forever be changed because the “wrong”
party, as some see it, has been elected. I suppose each generation thinks our future is go-
ing down the drain, but so far it hasn’t. Things never seem to work out as badly as some
predict, and not as good as others have promised. Both parties have good ideas as well as
their share of “lame” ones, depending, of course, on whom you’re talking to. But I hope to
see the day that we can work together as a nation, taking the best of both camps, creating
a national community which encourages the equal opportunity for the “pursuit” (but not
the guarantee) of a better life for all.
So, regardless of whether your candi-
date won or lost, we all have a lot to be
thankful for. We are living in a coun-
try where we have the freedom to buy
and sell, to worship as we please, to
come and go, and to enjoy a relatively
peaceful life – protected from our enemies. But most of all, we have the opportunity to
think for ourselves, to continue voting, taking the needed action to improve our lot in life
by being part of the solution rather than the problem.
Joe

Volunteers play a vital role in the support of our pa-tients and their families. Support is given in many ways – sitting at bedside to relieve an exhausted caregiver, performing small tasks in the patient’s home, reading to a patient, or spending time with a patient and their family as a “friendly visitor”. No special skills are needed but a passion to serve others is desired.
Please call Mary at 678-817-4180 if you have ques-tions about our program or if you would like to at-tend volunteer training.
Volunteers for Affinis Hospice
All you need is a caring heart! Your involve-ment will communi-cate value to these patients and their families as you pro-vide companionship and a brief respite for caregivers. You will not need to provide any medical or physi-cal care to the patient, just a caring heart and a listening ear. You can provide caregiv-er relief for 2-4 hours each week to allow the caregiver to enjoy time out of the home. You can use your gifts and talents to impact someone in their last stages of life in many ways, and we will make sure you are well-trained, equipped, and supported. Please call Lynn Yeager 404-832-4232 with interest or questions.

Staging a Historical Home to SellWe are fortunate citizens to live in a city that is known as “The City of Homes”. Unlike many towns in the state of Georgia, much of Newnan was spared the ravages of the Civil war. Both Union and Confederate hospi-tals were set up in some of our most beautiful homes, therefore, leaving us with an abundance of homes that are considered Historic Homes.
As home stagers, we talk about making your house appeal to the largest pool of buyers, however, staging is a different kind of ani-mal when you are dealing with a historic or period home. Most his-torichomessell toaspecifickindof buyer that is usually looking for original character and architec-tural details that aren’t found in a subdivision or newer home. Here are a few ways to put the focus on a historic home’s distinct features
and appeal to the most likely buyers.
Clear out the clutter. Historic homeowners tend to be collectors and aren’t always aware how cluttered and crowded this look can become over time. Show off the good bones and special moldings of the house by clearing away the clutter and arranging furniture to highlight the selling features of the house.
Emphasize the architecture. Tone down the patterns and ornate decor to show off the architecture. Careful use of color can draw attention to the fabulous moldings and features that a buyer for a period home de-sires.
Remove fussy window treatments. Take down the heavy draperies, fes-toons and swags. This will reveal the beauty of the window trim and let in more natural light.
Have more current furniture and accessories through-out the house. Antique furniture, lighting and decor can often feel more like a museum toabuyerandmakeitmoredifficulttoimaginethemselveslivinginthehouse.
Most of these are not very expensive tasks and can make a tremendous difference in helping you succeed in selling your unique property. The pool of buyers for these types of properties are not as large as the one for newer or subdivision homes, so take advantage of having a “captured” audience with every showing and prepare your house to sell quickly and for top dollar.

ROAD TO RECOVERYVolunteer Drivers Needed
If you are looking for a great way to donate some of your time, consider becoming a volun-teer driver for The American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program. This volunteer-based program provides free transportation to cancer patients to and from their treatment lo-cations. You can make a real difference in the life of someone who needs regular cancer treat-ments. It is hard enough to have cancer without having to worry about how you will get to your appointments.
Being a Road to Recovery volunteer is so easy. And the rewards are great. You can choose how often and what day of the week you would like to drive, and what distance you would be willing to travel. Most patients’ appointments are local in Coweta County. The training is free. Require-ments include a good driving record, a valid driver’s license, auto insur-ance, and a vehicle that is in good working condition.
Join this meaningful program and make someone’s life a little easier. You mightfinditmakesadifferenceinyourownlifeaswell.Formoreinfoonbecoming a volunteer driver, contact Road to Recovery volunteer coor-dinator, Emily Stastny at 770-378-1616 or email her at [email protected].

T hanksgivingAt Plymouth, the Pilgrims and Indians
celebrated the harvest. American families today continue to show our gratitude for the many blessings we have, including the bounty of harvest time. Gardens, orchards, fields, and woods abound with treasures as well as our Fall flower gardens. Fruits, veg-
etables, grains, seed pods, brightly colored leaves, brilliant berries, and Fall blooming flowers, such as dahlias, asters, and chrysanthemums evoke the Harvest season. It seems only natural to bring all of these elements into our homes to decorate at this time of year.
Fall harvests bounty is the theme. Autumn’s colors range from reds to golds to oranges to rust to maroon and brown. Textures may be rough, crinkly, ribbed, woolly, dried, or even smooth depending upon place-ment, container, and/or occasion. Found objects such as feathers, antlers, rocks, old ropes, old tools, used barbed wire, or weathered wood could be included. Burlap is a good choice of fabric.
For line material consider using cattails, corn stalks, bare branches, sorghum seed heads, dried corn tassels, dried mullein or dock, tall stalks of dried okra, or sugar cane.
Sumac, pyracantha berries, magnolia pods, china berry tree sprays, tallow tree sprays, cotton bolls on stalks, Beauty berries, golden rod, various grass seed heads, rabbit tobacco, pine cones, slabs of bark,
mosses, bracket fungus, and grape vines combine well for Fall. Hickory nuts or pecans can be drilled and wired and bunched to resemble grape clusters. Peanuts can add interest to designs. Mag-nolia leaves can be trimmed to shape and size desired and glued around a small cone to create a flower form. Osage oranges add a pop of green and texture.
Mechanics are important! Oasis, Sahara, crushed chicken wire, nee-dle point holders, wire, and tape can secure placement of materials. Fruits and vegetables can be impaled on slim wooden picks or skew-ers. Grapes can be wired on to short branches or tied onto wooden sticks. Hot glue is useful. Toothpicks work for small items.
Containers of wood, pewter, copper, iron (either rusted or black), tin, brass, pottery, antique scales, wooden bases in various shapes, baskets, and vines woven into shapes make suitable choices. Pump-kins, gourds, eggplant, or squashes can be hollowed out to hold a con-tainer of water or oasis.
Order is a part of Nature’s plan and good design. Choose only one line, one form, one color, and one texture to be dominant. Add lesser amounts of different plant materials for contrast and to add interest. For the dining table, at a seated meal, try a low horizontal design such as the traditional cornucopia (horn of plenty) or a tray or platter or board with fruits, vegetables, grains, flowers, and leaves spilling out [protect tablecloth].
Use your creativity and imagination to bring the bounty of your gar-den and land into your home this Thanksgiving.

Encouraging Words
from
John C. Maxwell
“The greatest day in your life and mine is
when we take total responsibility for our attitudes.
That’s the day we truly grow up.”
“We choose what attitudes we have right now.
And it’s a continual choice.”
“People may hear your words
But they feel your attitude.”
“A person must be big enough to admit his or her mistakes,
smart enough to profit from them, and
strong enough to correct them.”
“To add value to others, one must first value others.”
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor,
and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.”
