The conclusion of the given argument contends that, having seen the contradictory

results of the two studies, researchers of university of Waymarsh have jumped to the

conclusion that respondents in the first survey had misunderstood the question about

their reading habits, since the data of the second study seems to suggest readers

inclination to mysteries novels. However, a closer look at the evidence on offer

reveals fallacies to this theory that scientists have put forward. To begin with, proponents of this theory do not give the interval between the two studies. This is of paramount importance insofar as demographic changes of citys population that might have taken place. If the gap between the two researches is bigthen the conclusion of the first study will be attenuated because the data of the first study might not reflect the present situationIn addition, it seems that researchers had not drawn a fine line between what is thought to be classics and what books belong to the genre that is defined as mystery novels. For example, books of Arthur Conan Doyle or Agatha Kristie are considered to be classics even though these books belong to mystery genreFurthermore, supporters of this naution have yet to show whether each age group was represented equally in the two studies. If one of these research or both have drawn their respondents from a certain age group, this would compromise its validity. Therefore, the conclusions, which are inferred from this study, are wrong.

In sum, the argument as it stands is not sufficiently forceful to convince even a well-intentioned reader of its accuracy. Were it to be lent any credibility to this conclusion

proponents should have supplied clear evidence such as the interval between the two

studies or in which percentage each age group participated in each study.
