How to Take Good Pictures of AnythingBy Evan Weber

Taking a photo of something is a good way to keep memories safe from being forgotten. However, just because it is a picture of something cool, doesn’t make it a good picture.

It is a good idea to document things that are interesting or rare, but try to make it the best you can. The main reason some pictures are good and some are bad is for one reason. Lighting.

Lighting can make or break a good photo. When dealing with complex geometry, it can be difficult to figure out where to stand and at what angle. The main goal is to have the sun at your back, and not in front of you. If you shoot towards the sun, the sky will be blown out and very bright, while the subject will be dark and grainy.

There is a way to make the subject look good when backlit. By increasing any brightness settings, the subject can become well-lit. However, the sky will be an absolute lost cause... I would only recommend doing this if the image is for documentation purposes, and that you aren't trying to create a good looking picture.

Having a good frame is very important as well. Having the subject taking up most of the frame is usually the way to go. However, if the scene is interesting, zooming out and sacrificing clarity of the subject may be the way to go. For example, given a train going through a river valley, you would want some of the scenery in frame with the train as well, because it gives the location a chance to shine.

Here are two examples of backlit and perfectly lit.

My Opinion of SchoolBy Colton Oltmann

I like to go to school in person because I'm a hands on learner. Another reason I like to be at school is because if I'm at home there can be a lot of distractions. For example, pets, siblings, and if you get mail. I also like being at school because I can go up to the teacher if I have any questions.

Ben Simmons in the 1970’s and

1980’s would be a MVP, and probably a

top-five player in the 1990’s and the early

2000’s. He's an elite player with a big stain

on his game, his three-point shot. He is a

non-shooter in a league that has drifted away

from the rim. Ben Simmons' game is just

outdated. Does Ben need to change his game

and fall in line with everyone else?

Jersey Mike's: Colton’s ReviewBy Colton Oltmann

I went to the new Jersey Mike's location in Marion. It was really good but it was not cheap, especially if you got a giant sub. It was $15. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and there was a lot of meat. It was delicious. I would recommend going to Jersey Mike's to eat with family and or friends.

Google has threatened to shut down its search engine in Australia if the government there passes a new law to force big tech companies to pay local news producers for use of their content. The proposed Australian legislation, known as the News Media Bargaining Code, is the first of its kind in the world, and it's being seen as a test case of the power governments have to regulate big tech firms.

NASCAR Has Another Successful Next-Gen Racecar Test

By Conrad Vertz

On Tuesday NASCAR had a short test of the Next-Gen car, with Kurt Busch driving. Officials say they are happy with the product of the testing. This comes at a 1.5 mile track, that of Charlotte Motor Speedway. They also say this is after changes they made to the car after the not so stellar test a couple of months ago, they added that they were able to “validate” all of their changes.

Why I Want to be an Art TeacherWritten By Aiden Mangrich

All throughout my childhood I had looked up to my dad. He was the manager at Village Inn. He wasn’t around a lot but I still thought of him as a good man, a good father. So when I was younger my dream was to become a chef like how my father. But as I grew up, that dream slowly started fading. I realized that I didn’t really have the aptitude to be a chef. I hated the heat, didn't like all the waiting and measuring just basically only really liked cooking for myself I had found.

This brings us to my junior year, I met this teacher. His name was Erik Trilk, and I had him for literacy. His class was full of excitement for me. We read Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and J.D. Salinger. I loved every second of it. This was the first time in my life I truly felt like I had a place to be, a reason to go to school, a reason to wake up. However you put it, I had a reason in my life. I started looking up to him wanting to be like him, be a person people can look to for reason in their lives, and that's when I started realizing that he wasn’t the only teacher I saw like this. There were a lot, Mr. Blech, Ms. Champion, Ms. Combs, Mr. Dyrland, Mr. Lang, Mr. Lange, Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Telgenhoff, Mrs. Thilges, Mr. Voss, Mr. Wake, all of these people have made an impact on my life. I want to be able to do the same.

Why I Feel Like I Can’t be a TeacherWritten By Aiden Mangrich

To be honest it’s fear, I have this sense of needing to live up to these expectations I’ve set up for myself. All these teachers going in and out of my life making an impact, but at the same time constantly building up this expectation of who I should be, and this fear of who I might turn out to be. I’ve never had really any problem being up in front of people speaking, but how do I know if I’m good enough, how do I know when I’m ready.

Different Life Decisions for After High School

By Nate WaltersIn my opinion everyone

should take at least a year break to think about what they want to do for

the rest of their lives. Typically people tend to jump right into trying to find a university college to attend

to begin learning or training for a well-paying job. Stanford, Harvard, and Columbia are some of the most popular universities. Some people go right into the trades after high school, which isn’t as popular as

going to a university but are just as important. Some well-paying trades

include: HVAC technician, home inspector, plumber, electrician, etc.

Possible Major Changes for Life After the Pandemic

By Nate WaltersThe pandemic brought many

changes. As more receive the vaccine and we return to daily life, there are many other major changes for life after the pandemic.

Pollution could most likely be a major change as people would be able to go outside and drive and do other things that may cause pollution. Jobs like movie theaters, restaurants, and other kinds of stores would open back up or remain open for longer. People would start to receive more hours because of everything opening back up which would cause us to not be able to see friends and family as much.

Nate’s Review: Garth Brooks Sings “Amazing Grace”

By Nate Walters

Garth Brooks performed on inauguration day for President Biden to be sworn in as the 46th president. Although his performance was good because it represented all of us uniting together as a country, in my opinion, his performance was lacking. Garth Brooks has a nice voice and sings the right notes, but he sounded nervous and seemed like he could barely remember the words. Overall it was a nice performance, but I personally think he should just stick to country music.

There are many things that contribute to climate change but I am here to talk about the main few. One of the main causes is overpopulation. This is because how much each human releases carbon dioxide into the air. Each person that drives a vehicle to work everyday releases CO2 into the air through its muffler. Even the way us humans farm crops causes a release of CO2 through the machines. If we want to help the environment we need to cut back on the CO2 we produce.

First bring 5 cups of water to a boil in a oven safe pot. Then add noodles and continue to stir for 10-12 minutes until noodles are soft and done. Next put noodles and water into a strainer to separate noodles from water. Then add cheese sauce, 4 tablespoons of butter, and ⅓ cup of milk. Then stir it all together and your mac & cheese is finished and ready to eat.

There are several benefits to owning crystals, most of which radiate from their energetic properties. When you look at everything in terms of vibration or frequency, not one thing is exactly the same, and therefore everything emits a unique vibration of its own. Just as there are differences between the personalities or egos of you and I, each crystal has its own set of energetic properties and together they create a harmonious resonance raising your vibration, and the vibrations around you.

Inside each and every one of us are seven chakra centers that emit their own state of energy. These centers are interconnected and work together in our bodily systems on all planes of being. However, in order for these centers to become balanced, one must first go through the process of reopening their chakras. For each chakra center, there are complimentary stones for the corresponding colors that help promote and regulate energetic movement.

Since I will be graduating in April, I have put a lot of thought into what will happen after I graduate. I have started some of the more essential things right now so I am prepared by the time I am graduated. I am currently saving for a car and looking into options for college at Kirkwood. One of the things I am contemplating is whether to go into college right away or, start working full time so I have more money saved for college when I decide to enroll. I also hope to get a cheap apartment by the end of the summer and start moving forward with the things I would like to do.

If you are graduating soon, I would implore you to start planning what you will do after graduation. You have many options. Now is the time to begin exploring them so you know what you are going to do.

Having read The Hunger Games for school I can’t say I’m exactly disappointed, it was a fun read indeed. Though the narrative can be traced through its trilogy, I find the way Collins articulates the onset of thoughts in relation to the environment rather encapsulating. As Katniss applies her skills in the wilderness to the ever impending arena, I just can’t help but to recognize how intelligent she truly is. Although some would argue that there were others who could have outsmarted her, Katniss is able to draw on several cues from the environment to use as an advantage against the other tributes. There’s a certain irony that presents itself as Katniss pulls the games: despite some of the advantages other tributes have due to their Capitol status, Katniss was literally built to win the games.

Here are the top 3 dog breeds that are looked down on in the United States. The first breed is the American Pitbull. Most people see a Pitbull and get scared because Pitbulls have been stereotyped to be aggressive when it all depends on the owner. The next dog breed that most people think is aggressive is the Rottweiler. Since this dog is so big and loud most people get the wrong impression when coming across one. The last dog breed on this list is the Doberman, this is because people tend to use them when dog fighting or for protection.

Carl Gustav Jung was a Swiss psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and founder of analytical psychology. During his time working in the Burghölzli hospital, he stumbled upon the founder of psychoanalysis: Sigmund Freud. The two had a similar correspondence together and over the next six years their vision would only become a catalyst for a profoundly new paradigm within psychology and perspective as a whole. Their collaboration would take a turn when Jung publicly criticized Freud’s own theory of the Oedipus complex and emphasis on infantile sexuality. Jung would later go on to develop analytical psychology, which is perhaps one of the most profound relations ever made about perspective. Throughout his lifetime, Jung would write and publish many of his personal works, most of which are self illustrated, and are still being published to this very day.

Jung’s school of thought is truly unique because it shows the relation of symbolism between the individual unconscious and the collective mind. In fact, it makes the effort to bridge the understanding we have of ourselves to the collective mind we share.

“Alone”Written By Edgar Allan Poe

Chosen By Steven MillerFrom childhood’s hour I have not been

As others were—I have not seen As others saw—I could not bring

My passions from a common spring— From the same source I have not taken

My sorrow—I could not awaken My heart to joy at the same tone—

And all I lov’d—I lov’d alone— Then—in my childhood—in the dawn

Of a most stormy life—was drawn From ev’ry depth of good and ill

The mystery which binds me still— From the torrent, or the fountain— From the red cliff of the mountain— From the sun that ’round me roll’d

In its autumn tint of gold— From the lightning in the sky As it pass’d me flying by—

From the thunder, and the storm— And the cloud that took the form

(When the rest of Heaven was blue) Of a demon in my view—

Two LightsBy Jennifer Hanners

The light at the end of the street was bright, but foggy. The ground beneath my bare cold feet was wet and hard. I stood standing on the cold cement only in shorts and a tank top. Lying on the ground next to my naked, pale feet was my phone. Picking it up, I could see that the date was November twenty ninth of nineteen eighty-three, about two o seven in the morning. In the left-hand corner there were letters next to each other that made out no service. I wasn’t standing on the side of the street or the sidewalk, I was standing right in the middle of the road.

Did I sleep walk here? I could see at the end of the street under the bright light, a sign, but it was unreadable from where I was standing. I started walking towards the sign, until I reached the wet muddy corner, that the sign was set in. The soft grassy ground beneath me was mushy and cold. Tilting my head up slightly to read the sign, I read “Seventh Avenue Northwest.” That was my street, but it looked nothing like my street. Where was my house? I walked back to the middle of the street to get a better look at the whole block, but I could barely see a thing, it was so foggy. I could hear a small rumbling, like a car engine. I turn and peer into the fog to see what it was.

There were two small lights emerging from the fog. It… It was too late, by the time I realized what it was. I was laying there on the cold, wet, hard ground. I could feel the gravel beneath my body. A woman appeared above me. Her hair was dark brown and curly. She had pretty, sea green eyes that soon began to fill with tears. She looked down at my body and began to cry more and then she fell to her knees beside my body.

Why was she crying? Why did she fall to a sitting position next to me? Was I dead? Had I died? She then put her shaking hand up to my neck to check my pulse, I presumed. But she then quickly pulled her hand away, answering my question. I was dead; I had died. It can’t be. I was supposed to have more time. I could feel the tears building up, but nothing fell. It was the end. My end.
