THE COMMUNITY CHURCH NEWS Vol. XIII STOW, OHIO, FRIDAY, MARCH 8, 1946 No. 10 The Team Player We were talking about our basketball squad, the coach and I and discussing other boys in the school who might have athletic ability. I mentioned a boy who seem- ed to have possibilities, but the coach replied, "He doesn't seem to have what it takes to make a team player." The remark sticks in my memory; I come back to it again and again. What is a "team player" and what does it take to make one? Surely the boy had size. He was active, strong and rather fast. In co-ordination he was not lack- ing. Still he sat among the spectators instead of on the bench at games. I have asked others about the matter and I get a variety of answers. One mentioned passing the ball to others and not trying to play the whole game yourself. Another stressed the willingness to give up other pleasures such as picture shows and skating in order to practice with the team. Maybe it s ability to get along with other fellows on the squad. Perhaps it's the unselfish spirit that causes one to forget himself in the desire to work for the good of the team. Could it be that all these characteristics are necessary for a good team player? There are other teams in our community beside bas- ketball or baseball teams, and they all need team players. These are the folks who like to work with others for the common good. We see them in our church, our clubs, our schools and in our homes. We never have as many as we would like, and we usually recognize one when we see him. What higher compliment can they pay to you than to say, "He's a team player"? Do you qualify? JOE M. MITTEN

Dynamic Works of the Holy Spirit

Many people are perplexed con-cerning the work of the Holy 'Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a per-son, and God's word teaches us plainly what His work is. Here are four definite things He d'ass:

1. HE CONVICTS OF SIN: "When He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteous-ness, and of judgement". Jn . 16-8.

2. HE 1 MPARTS L I F E : "He saved us by the washing of regen-eration, and renewing of the Holy (Spirit) Ghost." Titus 3:5.

3. HOLY SPIRIT IMPARTS LOVE: " . . . the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy (Spirit) Ghost which is given us". Ro. 5:5.

4. TIHE H'OUY SJPHRIT IM-PARTS POWER: "But ye shall re-ceive power, af tur tha t the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me . . . in Jerusalem and all Julea, and Sam-aria, and unto the ut termost parts of the earth." Ac. 1:8.

HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Stow played its f i r s t and last

tournament game at Kent, Friday the 1st of March. We lost to Orr-ville by approximately 20 points.

The Hi-Y boys are gett ing their revenge on girls in overalls! Their barn dance is scheduled for this Friday, March 9th, and the fellas are to come in blue jeans but the girls are restricted to skirts!

We're get t ing back at them, though,, March 22. The Honor So-ciety is sponsoring a W.P.A.

dance. (Women pay all). The girls are to ask the fellas, pick them up, bring a vegetable corsage and a lunch box oif food, pay for the dance, and talk: the boys home and out to eat af terwards . A;ND we wear overalls. It sure will be a pleasant relief on the boys' wallets and tires!

Don Batton and Jane Van Sise debated over the radio last week and they won. All they have to do now is win three more debates and they are on their way to New York. Lucky people.

LETTER February 27, 1946

Dear Mr. Stockman: Sometime ago I wrote and told

you my navy care . r would be over before long, the end is just about here and I'll bi. catching the next draf t that will leave for Toledo, my separation center. It just does-n't seem true bul I saw my name posted in black and white so it must be thi. real thing.

I don't know how many of my old gang are back in Stow, but I do know if they are not they soon will be. It will certainly be swell seeing the gang again and I'm also anxious to get back in civies.

The Community Church News has cr.rtainly done it 's par t for at! the gals and guys in service, and I want to personally thank you for the paper which I have been receiving for over thirty-two months. I'll soon be home and reading the Community Church Ni ws which my folks receive so sta: tir^' today that will mean one less paper you will need to send out every week. Thanks again for everything, and I'll close for now. I lepi rg to see you soon.

Dear H. J . S. If there is any more room on the

My ship is pointing her prow westward in three days bound for the Philippines. I sincerely hope when we return to the S ta t s the next time that she falls apar t gett ing into a pier. It 's quite pos-sible too. She reminds me of the editor's Plymouth but that 's taking in quit : a bit of terr i tory isn't i t?

Sincerely tho I wish to thank you for the news and all those affi l iat-ed with it's publication. Enclosed is enough for a couple bottles of ink for the next edition. (That is if ink isn't too expensive). Thanking you one and all.
