It is clear that poor technology workstation ergonomics impact the physical well being of students and educators alike, with related costs to the education enterprise and society. So isnt it worth exploring making that Interactive White Board height adjustable?

A height-adjustable wall mount can move an interactive whiteboard system up or down by 20 (50cm). Its easy you can even make the height adjustment using just one hand. The whiteboard can be lowered to enable young students to reach it and then be raised for teachers and taller students. Projector headachesCeiling mounted projectors are definitely a common sight as technology is deployed in the classroom. However, they are not without their issues.

I talked earlier about some of the hassles related to a ceiling mounted projector.

you can make line of sight issues go away and simplify installation and bulb replacement by keeping the projector at teacher level on a cart.

a short throw projector will accomplish the same thing.

and some schools have chosen to eliminate projector hassles all together by turning away from projectors and interactive white boards and toward touch enabled large format lcd or plasma displays.

Large investment, limited return

Wall-mounted large format displays and videoconferencing systems have some compelling attributes (theyre there when you need them, they dont take up floor space), but what about situations where they are not in use (lights out in training or conference rooms, non-presentation time in classrooms)? An oversimplified approach of deploying one per room can make for an unnecessarily expensive technology implementation.

Remedy

Maximizing the investmentSo lets revisit these expensive large format presentation and videoconferencing devices hanging on the wall. If they are in use non-stop throughout the day, then this is a fine way to go. But are they? If the answer is no, then wouldnt it make sense to buy fewer of them and put them on a mobile platform? That way, expensive videoconferencing gear could be rolled in on an as needed basis as a more cost effective shared asset, as could digital signage. And front-of-class presentation screens could also be deployed as-needed, and moved around the room to create dynamic, flexible 21st century learning environments.

What a waste to let a notebook screen sit idle when extended desktop functionality comes absolutely free with every microsoft pc and can make your staff, teachers and students so much more productive.
