Welcome Summer Members! That’s right, as hard as it is to believe, our summer has arrived and our
social & tennis summer memberships begin this month. We have a great group returning from last
season and you will be seeing quite a few new faces at the club as well. Our summer golf membership
begins May 1st, so please mention this opportunity to anyone you know that has expressed interest in
trying out our club or golfing this summer. It’s a great program to help new members get involved, try
the course, get in a game, and ultimately decide this is the club for them full time.
Registration is now open for summer camps and swim team. Forms are available at the front desk,
and on our website as well. Our camps and swim team are open to all member’s children & grandchildren. We have some new themes for camp this year, such as The Escape Room, Inventor’s
Workshop, and of course everyone’s favorite—Mad Science! Many of you may have met Jean Brooks,
who is at the front desk of the club on weekends—Jean has 20 years of experience as a middle school
teacher and will be heading up our camp program this summer. Swim Team will have their first meet
on Saturday, May 13th! In order to be ready to compete the team will begin practicing this month. A
kick-off party and coaches meet & greet will be announced shortly, so be sure to check out your email
for that announcement.
The Club’s calendar is quickly booking up, so if you are considering the club as a venue for a private
party please let me know your dates as soon as possible so we can be sure to accommodate your event.
The club began advertising on The Knot as a wedding venue last year, and I am pleased to say that we
have tripled our wedding business from last year, and anticipate an increase in this coming year as
well!
Of course, there are lots of member events to enjoy this month as well. Please review your newsletter
and calendar and plan on enjoying all your club has to offer. Easter Brunch has been a family
tradition at our club for generations. We will have the Easter Bunny here for photos throughout
brunch, and we will feature an Easter Egg Hunt for the kid’s at 1pm. Please call the club to make your
reservations as soon as you can so we can be sure to be prepared with plenty of staff, Easter Eggs, and
wonderful brunch items for all to enjoy.
And as always, please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or concerns, and I will do all I
can to ensure you enjoy your membership to the fullest.
See you at the Club, Christy Dollins, Membership Director

Tennis Talk The weather couldn’t be nicer for tennis. The winter and spring have for the most
part been dry and cooler at least lately. This month the Summer members will
start to join. Please help welcome them to the club.
The Doubles Club Championship will be held Sat. and Sun. April 1st & 2nd.
The Raymond James Super-Senior Grand Prix tournament was the best tourna-
ment ever. Over 275 very talented 55 to 90 year old players competed this year.
From our club, Brant Bailey, Tom Soule, Rich Norenberg, Jorge Alvarez, Neil
Covey and Jerry Ratledge all competed this year. Brant won the 65 singles & dou-bles consolation. Also Rich and Tom won the 80 doubles consolation. Larry Tur-
ville, who was raised in St. Pete, was the champion of the 65 singles and doubles
again. Last year he developed pneumonia during the tournament and had to de-
fault. Many of the players have written cards and emails thanking us for a well run
tournament with kudos to all the helpful volunteers and club staff. Jerry and Suzi
Ratledge, tournament Co-Chairpersons, Vice-chair, Paula Briggs and all the volun-
teers worked tirelessly getting sponsors for the tournament program, improving
the grounds, serving lunches or assigning courts. Also, members Guy Thibaut,
Mark Ruggieri, Pete Robison and Steve Yost helped Courtmen Bobby and Alberto
to prepare the courts all week, which really helped match flow. Many thanks to all
that helped make this such a record breaking great event this year.
The kids have been playing in the Sunday, Jr. Team Tennis League for the last cou-
ple months. We have 10’s, 12’s and 14’s teams. They are really improving. Keep up
the good work.
Our Summer Junior Tennis Camp for ages 4–18 will start on Tuesday, May 30, and
will run for 9 weeks to August 4 with a week off for 4th of July. The days are Mon-
day through Friday. Sessions will be 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. The charge is $20/
session or $80/week.
