An update from the Administrator . . .As news stories and internet reports seem to focus on what’s wrong in the world, I feel grateful to be a part of such a great parish community that is St. Mary’s. While certainly far from perfect, we continually strive to live out our mission each and every day. Here are just a few recent examples of our stewardship in action,
Nearly 135 of our middle schoolers led by about a dozen 12th graders prepared 300 sandwiches for MPLS Recreation Development. This is a nonprofit, led by Allan Law, serving the homeless community, vulnerable individuals & disadvantaged youth in the Twin Cities.
Over 45 adult small group leaders are in the midst of sharing 25 of their evenings from mid‐September – April with 6th thru 12th graders in continuing their Catholic faith formation.
We have nearly 250 adorers who are signed up to spend time in prayer in our chapel. Because of their commitment, we have Eucharistic Adoration for over 100 hours each and every week. With the goal of having at least 2 adorers dedicated to each hour Mon‐Fri, several spots remain.
Winter can be a great time to review our personal finances with our tax professionals as well as renew our commitment to service through sacrificial sharing of our time, talent, & treasure. Stewardship forms are available at the hospitality desk or online; automatic debit is available to simplify your financial contributions.
Other items to note: The Cemetery Committee has approved a periodic inflationary increase to various fees, effective
March 1, 2018. Please check out the website or stop by the hospitality desk for a list of new prices.
Please help us maintain accurate records by remembering to update us with any changes to your phone, email, or address. Whether it is our parish directory, mailings, or email blasts, we want to ensure consistent and reliable communication throughout our parish community. Thank you!

LIFTING SPIRITS, TOUCHING LIVES
Tips to Safely Lose Weight and Get Slimmer:
Focus on building activity into your daily routine. Walk several blocks rather than driving and take the stairs instead of using the elevator.
Have a mission: Write a specific wellness mission for the upcoming weeks. For example, “I will eat two clean meals per day for two weeks” and put the plan where you see it. Continue to improve your mission goals as each one is achieved.
“Go” for a daily mile. Whether you walk, run, bike, or swim – you pick. Also, don’t forget to time yourself so you can see improvement.
Use smaller plates. Smaller plates will help with portion control and naturally reduces your calorie intake.
Scan your kitchen and purge three of the foods that tend to knock you off track from your diet goals.
Walk, stretch, even squat – every hour. New research has shown that sitting for long periods raises your changes of getting chronic disease, even if you routinely exercise .
Work out first thing in the morning. Early morning workouts help keep your metabolism humming all day.
Instead of sitting down for your whole break, grab a co‐worker and spend the first half of your break taking a brisk walk.
Eat 2 types of vegetables with every meal and eat less meat.
Add fruit to your breakfast.
Cut down on alcohol, or cut it our completely. Alcohol is full of sugar and calories and you would need to jog a mile to burn off the calories of one unit of alcohol.
Most importantly, remember that eating healthy to loose weight isn’t quick and short term, it’s a permanent change for the better. http://www.healthy‐eating‐made‐easy.com/eating‐healthy‐to‐lose‐weight.html

Sunday School Voices
Today we heard about how God made the world. The first people were named Adam and Eve. We learned how they disobeyed God. We talked about sin and being sorry for our sins, and we had a “we are sorry” prayer service in each classroom. We learned that God still loves us when we sin. He will forgive us. There is no Sunday School next Sunday, February 18, due to the President’s Day holiday. We will meet again on Sunday, February 25.

THIS WEEK we will receive a mailing from Bishop Kettler, asking for our help with the Annual Bishop’s Appeal. This important appeal supports many diocesan ministries that affect our parish as well as others around the Diocese. I ask everyone to respond with something to this appeal. It brings TV mass to the homebound, supports offices that sponsor retreats for our young people, men and women’s retreats. It makes available people who specialize in various aspects of parish life—e.g. human resources, pre‐marriage work, marriage course & pre‐marriage inventory (our Diocese sponsored writing a new inventory entitled, “Fully Engaged” that is now being used by many diocese around the country.) There is so much more. This Annual Bishop’s Appeal doesn’t just fund offices, but offices that work with many parishes and their people within the Diocese. Be as generous as you can be for this special appeal. I would like to see the percentage of givers go up this year so that we can make out goal. Thank you, Fr. Steve FEBRUARY 21st, St. Mary’s will be hosting a panel of speakers who will share information on how to “Be Undivided: Making good moral choices.” Deb Klaverkamp, Fr Tom Knoblach, and Chris Codden will be here to talk about difficult moral decisions that we face as God’s children from birth to death. We will have an opportunity to hear an overview from all speakers and then will move into 2 breakout sessions. We are excited about the expertise and experience of these speakers. They will have an engaging group that will present a thoughtful and informative lesson for all ages, beginning at 6:30 pm in the church.
