Topaz Marine has recently added a new, 61-meter emergency recovery

and response vessel named the Caspian Protector to its diverse fleet of

Offshore Support Vessels.

The Caspian Protector will be deployed in Azerbaijan in support of a 10-

year, US$ 225 million (Rial 86.5 million) contract with oil major BP, won by

Topaz Energy and Marine in 2008.

In addition to the Caspian Protector the other vessels deployed against

the contract are the platform supply vessel the Caspian Server, which

began its operations in 2009, and the anchor handling tug supply vessel the

Caspian Power, due for delivery later this year.

Topaz Marine takes delivery of Caspian Protector

Roy Donaldson, Topaz Marine Chief Operating

Officer, said in a statement, “The CaspianProtector is the result of a collaborative process

between Topaz and our client, BP, to understand

the client’s exact requirements and jointly develop

the technical specifications of a vessel that’s

uniquely equipped to meet the challenges of the

operating realities of the Caspian Sea.”

CSG rewards long-serving employees

Contract Services Group (CSG) rewarded its longest serv-

ing employees for 20 years of dedication, commitment and

service excellence at a ceremony held at Marina Bandar al

Rowdha last month.

“In our company we value every single person. People are

of intrinsic value, without our people we are nothing. We have

lots of objectives, lots of goals, lots of targets and if we haven’t

got the right people we will never achieve them. With the right

people everything is possible. We honour everyone who is

here tonight and take these 20 years awardees as an

example for the rest of us to live up to in terms of loyalty of

service. These people have worked safely and have come

through these 20 years by understanding that they want to

reach that goal zero of no harm to people, no harm to the

environment,” said Stephen Thomas, CEO of Renaissance,

who was joined by Ananda Fernando, CEO at CSG, and Adil

Bahwan, CDO at CSG, in handing over certificates and

memento to the honoured employees.

Last year, CSG held its first commemoration to award 54 of

its longest serving employees who had completed 20 years

service. Twenty employees were rewarded this year with

certificates of appreciation and gold medallions.

Renaissance inspires youth to big dreams

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility

programme and support of Oman Sail, Renaissance

invited 43 children from the fifth and sixth grade at Al

Sahwa Elementary School to partake in a “Dream your

biggest dream” competition.

The students were visited by Oman Sail sailing

instructor Ali Ambusaidi who spoke to the 11 and 12 year

olds at a packed assembly about the basics of sailing,

safety and Oman’s maritime heritage. Inspired by Mohsin

Al Busaidi’s historic voyage in 2009 which made him the

first Omani and Arab sailor to circumnavigate the world

non-stop in record time, the children were asked to

contemplate their biggest aspirations for the future.

The winning boys and girls were rewarded with a

sailing lesson that ultimately rewarded their creativity and

encouraged their continued learning and ambition.

GREEN

PAC Fahud marks its

Environment Day Last month, PAC Fahud dedicated a

date to the environment and marked its

first objective of collecting all waste along

the exterior main road and PAC’s fences.

70 staff volunteers including manage-

ment and supervisors participated in

collecting a total of 560KG littered

garbage, which was either recycled or

disposed of properly and without harm to

the environment.

Recycling drop off points on the

rise at Renaissance businessesPaper and plastic are everywhere, and of

course, the need for these materials is essential. At

the same time, the need to reduce, reuse and

recycle is also becoming more relevant as our

planet faces added environmental challenges

every day. Our company wishes to play its part, no

matter how small, in taking steps towards a safe

and healthy environment. In order to be success-

ful, each one of our 11,000 strong workforce needs

to be armed with the information and resources

needed to take correct actions. As a necessary

step, some of our office locations have installed

recycling drop off points for paper and plastic.

Renaissance’s corporate office at the CBD area

has contributed to the recycling of nearly 1 ton of

paper and 200KG of plastic since setting up paper

recycling points early last month. These accom-

plishments would not have been possible without

the input of the employees who take part in

recycling and encourage their fellow employees to

do the same. We commend your efforts and

happily remind you that together, one small act can

make a large difference.

In tangent with the Safety ethos and culture at Contract Services Group, a new vehicle graphic is being adopted by

the new and existing vehicle fleet that focuses on the safe driving practice of wearing your seatbelt.

The seatbelts across the driver and front passenger doors seeming ‘click’ as the door opens and closes, reminding

the observer to fasten up for every journey. The driver’s side carries the slogan “Safety First” while the opposite carries

the same message in Arabic. CSG will be the first organization to brand its fleet with a public awareness message to en-

courage safe driving on Oman’s roads. This is the second project undertaken by CSG to encourage safe driving, hav-

ing installed a series of highway signs at all PACs in 2009, in response to an alarming rise in national statistics where

an average of 3 fatalities occurs each day on Oman’s roads.

CSG’s vehicle fleet travels an extensive network of roads throughout Oman’s interior and main

cities, and each vehicle is

estimated to be seen by

at least 5,000 people

per day.
