The Celebration of Sacraments

Infant Baptism: The Sacrament of Baptism is regularly celebrated on Sunday during or after the Eucharistic Liturgy. Registered parishioners are asked to arrange for the Baptismal Preparation Class and the Liturgical Celebration by calling the Parish Office.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: RCIA is the process of growing in your faith and love of God. Weekly gather-ings take place from September until Easter. If you are interested in learning about Catholicism and joining us please call Deacon Tom at the rectory. Penance: The Sacrament of Penance is celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at IC, 9:30 a.m. at HSP and 10:30 a.m. IC every Sunday or by appointment.

Matrimony: Anyone planning to be married must contact the parish at least six months in advance. The exact date and time of your wedding should not be determined until after consultation with a priest or deacon. If either party has previously been civilly or religiously married, the Presider is not permitted to set a date for the wedding without resolving the previous marriage.

Pastoral Care of the Sick: When a parishioner is admitted to the hospital, nursing home, or confined to home because of age or infirmity, please call the Parish Office. Parishioners are ready to visit and to bring Holy Communion. When one is seriously ill, the healing Presence of the Lord should be requested in the Sacrament of the Sick.

Dear People of God, Over the past few weeks we’ve been examining the seven building blocks of Catholic Social Teaching. Today I want to briefly look at the principle of solidarity. You may recall that Poland sought to break away from the USSR by proclaiming solidarnosc, Polish for solidarity. Simply put, solidarity means we’re all in it together because every living human person is endowed with the same image and likeness of God. That means we must take an interest in what’s happening here at home, in our region, in our nation and in all the other nations which together make up the family of humanity. That interest, though, doesn’t end with our reading the local newspaper to find out who’s shooting at whom in the Middle East, but to undertaking efforts to stop the shooting. In other words, we’re supposed to be about the business of promoting peace (ending the wars in which all the shooting is going on, ending the abuse of spouses and children, ending the plague of drug and alcohol abuse, ending the necessity for young people to form gangs and a host of other ‘ends’ which require peace) and justice which means setting on place fair rules and regulations which allow every person to prosper, have a decent home, enjoy a good job and make enough to afford an occasional vacation or outing. For most of us this effort will begin and end with prayer because most of us are not in a position to literally end any of the ills which plague the world today. But God is, so we turn to God in hope and confidence that if enough of us pray the world will become far more peaceful. Some of us may be able to do something to spread a little peace, like donating to the charities which promote peace through education or serving as members of such organizations. Some of us may be able to take yet another step and run for elective office on a platform of peace and justice, seeking means of getting nations to work together instead of at odds with one another. As you might guess, this aspect of Catholic Social Teaching undergirds the missionary efforts of the Church, much of which does its evangelization by acts of relief, care and the extension of love through action. None of may ever meet a Tanzanian albino child, but by supporting the effort when we were asked have made a difference. We may never meet any of the millions of refugees who want to escape from terror and war, but our prayers may make it possible to do so, and even make it possible that they can stay home if we pray hard enough for peace.

Sesquicentennial Celebration (150th Birthday)

We are looking for a few parishioners who would like to be part of a committee to plan events for Darby’s 150th birthday! Our sesquicentennial will be in 2018, and it’s not too early to get together and look at some events that could be celebrated throughout that year, ending with our Home-coming mass in 2018. Brainstorming to-gether would be a way to begin this! Call the parish office 419-243-1829 if you are able to help. A date for the meeting will be announced when we are a little closer!

Have you thought about including the Annual Catholic Appeal in your will? It’s easy! Your bequest will create a lasting legacy which assures that our diocesan ministries will continue to make an impact in the lives of our Faith Family.

Nicole Tye St. Ursula 2nd Honors

Joseph Aiton Central Catholic 3rd Honors

Our ice cream socials will begin Sunday July 9 after mass! There may even be other goodies too as you take some time to visit and enjoy a cool treat! They will continue every other Sunday thru August.

Origins of the Bible will begin on Wednesday, July 12th at 6:00 pm in the church. Please join us for this video presen-tation that answers many questions. (We’ll have cool beverages in case it’s warm!)

You may have noticed that the an-nouncements are being read BEFORE

mass! Parish council voted that reading the announcements that are ALL in the bulletin, should be stopped! Announce-ments that did NOT make it in the bulletin will be read about 3 minutes before mass begins. If you came in late and missed them, ask someone after mass. The

thought to take away: take a bulletin home...and read through it. Then if you have questions call the parish office.
