Association of Lutheran ChurchMusicians, Presentation onTransformational LeadershipOctober 6th

I have been invited to give a workshop on musicministry strategies for the Association ofLutheran Church Musicians. My focus will be ontransformational leadership in music ministriesfor the purpose of creating disciples. Not only isthis helpful as a recruitment strategy, it utilizesthe gifts of everyone in the music ministry whilealso fostering growth.

Parish Country Fair!Oct. 27th and 28th

At the end of October, not only doesthe church have a chance to relax andhave fun with carnival games and a

haunted house, but we also get theopportunity to sing!

The St. Cecilia Chorale, Simbayanan'Chorale, and Coro Guadalupano eachwill sing a short set of folk tunes fromLatin America, the Philippines, and theUnited States.

Merlot Embargo and Farewell toGeoff Gross, Guitarist of Lifeteen

While Mass on the Grass was a huge success,we also were saddened by the fact that GeoffGross will be leaving us for the time being tojoin his amazing wife, Scarlett Gross, at theCaruso Catholic Center of USC. While we arehappy for his transition, we will miss him!

Geoff is the guitarist for Merlot Embargo, whosemusic we were blessed to witness at Mass onthe Grass.

Christmas ConcertDec. 7thDress Rehearsal Dec. 6

Announcing our Christmas concert! Therehas been a change since the lastnewsletter. We will be combining with Dr.Peter Green in the spring.

The groups performing will be: the WorshipTeam, the children's choirs, Simbayanan',St. Cecilia, GCC Chamber Singers, CoroGuadalupano, St. Monica Group, andmembers of the Glendale Youth Orchestra.

I will need help with: advertisement, foodand refreshments, set-up and clean-upcrew, and greeters. Let me know if you areinterested in fulfilling these positions!

The repertoire covered will includeSomething Beautiful by Need to Breathe, IHeard the Bells on Christmas Day byCasting Crowns, Christmas Day by GustavHolst, and Christmas Oratorio by Saint-Saens. We will also be having a carolmedley by Tom Fettke in the middle of theconcert. Check out a few of the selectionson the left!

Farewell to Chris Buttars!

We are saddened to announcethat Chris Buttars, our tenorsection leader, will be leaving forSt. James Episcopal. While weare sorry to see Chris go, we areequally excited for his newopportunity. He will be singingalongside great singers andOrganist & Director of Music,Canon James Buonemani, andAssociate Organist, Dr. TomMueller. Farewell and Godspeed!

In Chris' place, we welcome ournew tenor section leader, TimothyGonzales.

Born and trained in SouthernCalifornia, tenor Tim Gonzalesperforms opera and oratorio on thenational and international stage. Mr.Gonzales has performed numerousroles for USC opera, the mostnotable being Peter Doyle in theWest Coast premiere of LowellLieberman’s Miss Lonelyhearts andGonzalo in the West Coastpremiere of Lee Hoiby’s TheTempest. He has sung the roles ofLe Doyen in Cendrillon, Arbace inIdomeneo, Tebaldo in Bellini’s ICapuleti e i Montecchi, Albert in
