The Feast of Pentecost
Dear Parishioners,
Remember we have summer school at both of our schools. Sign ups are happening NOW!! As I mentioned in my pastor column last week, both summer school programs offer new enhancements: the Grade School summer school has now expanded to an up-to-6-week program that focuses on academic enrichment and fun at the same time. (Previously it was 4 weeks only.) Our High School summer school program now offers afternoon sessions of academic enrichment and special offerings for middle school students. Both summer programs are Co-Ed. Kids come from various Catholic and public and private schools to participate in our safe, fun and dynamic summer programs.
Today, 57 of our Religious Education children are receiving the Eucharist for the first time at the 8 AM, 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM Masses. Congratulations to all! Special thanks to Sandra Rodas and to all of our catechists who give of their time and talents each Sunday at our religious education classes.
I hope that everyone is enjoying this special month of Mary, our mother in heaven. We just celebrated our high school May crowning Mass this past week and the grade school May crowning Mass the week prior. A lot of Catholics still do not realize that we do not worship Mary. We do not. We HONOR Mary. She is our mom in heaven and she deserves our devotion. However, even she herself with say to direct all of our worship to God and to God alone. She is the #1 saint in heaven. She is the #1 prayer partner. She is the only one besides Jesus who was without sin.
Keep in mind that Archbishop José Gomez will ordain Deacon Danny Guinto a priest of Jesus Christ forever on June 2nd at the cathedral. A total of nine men will be ordained priests on that day! That’s great news for our archdiocese. The soon-to-be Father Danny will have his first Mass here at Holy Family on June 3rd at 11 AM. There will be a reception following in the Grade School Auditorium. All are welcome to attend the first Mass and parish reception; however, tickets are required for the actual ordination at the cathedral.
Our annual Keep on Rollin event is coming up soon: June 9th! We have an exciting program planned along with a great sit down dinner. Event tickets are $100. Remember: the money goes to support your parish. Raffle tickets are also on sale for $20 each or 6 for $100. You have the opportunity to win $10,000! Second prize is two travel vouchers to the Philippines or $2000. At this event, we are honoring Tony and Lina Camcam, Steve Benedict and Deacon Ron and Patti Baker. We appreciate them and their service to Holy Family and these folks deserve special recognition on this big night.

ARE YOU SOMEONE OR DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO…
• Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic? • Has a child over the age of seven who has not been baptized? • Was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist?
We offer an opportunity to come together in a small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. There are separate sessions for children or youth. You are welcome to participate in the process with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a warm and accepting setting. For information please contact: Sandra Rodas at 818-247-2222 ext. 382, email: [email protected]
Registration for Religious Education for the school year that begins Sunday, September 23, 2018 is now open to all children from grades 1 to 5. Formal religious instruction begins when the child enters Kindergarten and continues throughout the years. For this reason we are offering a class for Early Childhood ages 3-4 and 5 year olds (Little Church).
For children who have already celebrated their First Holy Communion, we offer a Post Communion class. Faith formation is a lifelong process of learning about God’s love for us and does not end with the reception of First Communion.
You may register at our office: 400 S. Louise St. (Monday through Thursday) from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You may also register at the Church office: 209 East Lomita Avenue. For any questions, please call our office , 818-247-2222 ext.382, email: [email protected]

May is Foster Awareness Month! Urge Your Parish to Support Youth in Foster Care
There are currently 34,000 children in foster care in Los Angeles County, the highest number in the nation. 21% of foster children in LA are under the age of 2. And upon aging out of foster care without a family, 1/3 of youth will become homeless, 1/5 will become incarcerated, and 70% of trafficked youth come from the foster care system. Every child deserves a loving family. We are adopted sons and daughters of God, and we know that the family is the basic building block of society. These kids need the love of a family to support them and nurture them to their full potential. Take Action: Visit archla.org/foster to learn the numerous ways you can help change a child's life

Practice fire safety in the home
Developing a family fire plan for evacuation can save lives. Children should be a part of the planning, and should know which exits to use to get out of the house and where to meet once they are safely outside. Smoke detectors and fire extinguishers should also be part of your plan; children should know what to do if the smoke detector goes off, and older children should be taught how to use a fire extinguisher.
