FEAR NOT In these times, there is plenty to be afraid of, if we only look around. It seems that every day the news media have yet more bad news to tell: wars, disease, terrorism, drought, social unrest, and more. Some people have stopped using clock radios to wake up in the morning, preferring a jarring buzzer to the even more jarring morning news. What more do we need before we realize that we are finite creatures, and while there is much we can do to make our world better, ultimately there is a lot that is simply not within our grasp? To this our loving God says, “Be strong, fear not!” We must do what we can to make our world a better and safer place, but we must also realize our limits and that our ultimate safety is in the hands of God. We can be comforted by the realization that God loves us beyond measure, and will give us every help in our efforts to make our world a loving and safe place for everyone.

NO TEMAN En estos tiempos, hay muchas razones para temer, con tan sólo mirar a nuestro alrededor. Tal parece que cada día los medios de comunicación tienen más malas noticias que anunciar: guerras, enfermedades, terrorismo, sequía, disturbios sociales, y mucho más. Algunas personas han dejado de usar los radios despertadores prefiriendo ser despertados por la sacudida de la alarma chillona y no de las malas noticias matutinas. ¿Qué más necesitamos para darnos cuenta de que somos criaturas limitadas, y aunque hay mucho que podemos hacer para mejorar nuestro mundo, en última instancia hay mucho que simplemente no está a nuestro alcance? Para esto, nuestro amoroso Dios nos dice: “¡Ánimo! No teman.” Debemos hacer todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance para hacer de nuestro mundo un lugar mejor y más seguro, pero también debemos reconocer nuestros límites y que nuestra seguridad absoluta está en manos de Dios. Nos puede servir de consuelo la realización de que Dios nos ama sin medida, y nos dará toda la ayuda necesaria para hacer de nuestro mundo un lugar acogedor y seguro para todos.

SAINT OF THE DAY
Catholic saints are holy people and human people who lived extraordinary lives. Each saint the Church honors responded to God's invitation to use his or her unique gifts. God calls each one of us to be a saint. Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary — September 8
The Church has celebrated Mary's birth since at least the sixth century. A September birth was chosen because the Eastern Church begins its Church year with September. The September 8 date helped determine the date for the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8 (nine months earlier).
Scripture does not give an account of Mary's birth. However, the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James fills in the gap. This work has no historical value, but it does reflect the development of Christian piety. According to this account, Anna and Joachim are infertile but pray for a child. They receive the promise of a child that will ad-vance God's plan of salvation for the world. Such a story (like many biblical counterparts) stresses the special pres-ence of God in Mary's life from the beginning.
St. Augustine connects Mary's birth with Jesus' saving work. He tells the earth to rejoice and shine forth in the light of her birth. "She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious lily of the valley. Through her birth the nature inherited from our first parents is changed." The opening prayer at Mass speaks of the birth of Mary's Son as the dawn of our salvation and asks for an increase of peace.

***NEW***ENTERTAINMENT UPDATE – GREAT TALENT ALL THREE DAYS!!! Friday - From 5-6 PM we will have DJ Paul playing tunes to get our Festival going. Then we will dance the night away with our Headliner band, Cold Duck playing from 6-10 PM -- they are awesome! Saturday - Once again we will have our St. Joseph’s Got Talent contest! Semi-final competition will take place at 1:00 PM. Come and be a contestant! Voting for who moves on to the final round is done with festival tickets!! Note: Those wishing to enter their act into the festival please contact Rachel Valdivia at 909-981-4471. Later in the afternoon, our very own Tongan dancers will per-form, directly followed by our very own DJ, Ashley Contreras from 6-7 PM, and finally our Headliner Band, El Chico Band who will perform Top 40, Jazz and Rock from 7-10 PM! Sunday – Our St. Joseph’s Got Talent contest finals will be at 1:00 PM. We will have mariachi music from 2-4 PM, and folklorico dancers from the parish will entertain you from 3:30 to 4:30 PM. The final headliner of the festival will be the ACE Band, who plays a mixture of rock, pop and dance music. They will play from 5-9 PM. And don’t forget, near the conclusion of the Festival, we draw the winning ticket to see who wins the brand new Chevy Cruze!!!!!! Wow so much to enjoy and the admission price to enjoy all of this is FREE! *** Update - DONATIONS NEEDED – Please Help!!! Please bring the following items as soon as you can to the Parish Office marked “Festival” – thanks for your support, this really helps decrease the funds we need to put the festival together.
