Let Us Pray! O Lord, giver of life and source of freedom, I know that all I have received is from your hand. Gracious and loving God, You call us to be stewards of Your abundance, the caretak-ers of all you have entrusted to us. Help us to always use Your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously. Send the Holy Spirit to work through us, bringing Your message to those we serve. May our faithful stewardship bear witness to the love of Jesus Christ in our lives. We pray with grateful hearts, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.

Blessed Lord, accept this burning candle as a sign of my faith and love for You.
Like this candle, I am ready to be used in your service without asking why and to what purpose.
Even as this candle, I wish to stand in Your presence and to be consumed in the light and warmth of our Love.
Please hear my prayer and, if it is Your will, grant my petition.
But above all, make me loyal and faithful to You in all circumstances of my life.
Amen.

WELCOME THE STRANGER We have become accustomed to seeing pictures in the media and stories on the news about immigrants from Latin America and refugees from Syria fleeing vio-lence and destruction in their own countries, trying to make their way to a safe place. We have also seen the reactions of people who want to keep them away from their countries, who fail to welcome the stranger and the helpless children. Have we forgotten Jesus’ call to com-fort the homeless and the stranger? “They shall bring all your brothers and sisters from all the nations . . . to Jeru-salem, my holy mountain, says the L .” In the three readings for this day, we are told that we are to welcome these strangers, to welcome the disci-pline of the Lord, which leads to peace, and to “strive to enter through the narrow gate” into the glory of God’s own homeland, the reign of God. Dear Catholic Community of South Pittsburgh, Grace and peace to you in Christ! What a grace this summer has been for me. I had the opportunity to take some quality vacation time this summer and I am very grateful for the renewed vigor that brought. When I came home after two weeks away I realized that I have everything my heart has ever really desired. Of course, my heart’s desire has been for a long time to love God above all things, and I always know that He is with me and I am with Him. Knowing that, and making time eve-ryday to rest in that reality, has been the source of my strength since my first year of seminary.
That being said, not doing priestly ministry for two weeks while I was away on vacation made me realize how much I absolutely love being a priest! It is not my job, it is who I am. I love leading you to Jesus and bring-ing His love and healing into your life. I love administer-ing the sacraments and watching God transform you into the likeness of Christ! I love teaching you how to pray and seeing you become fully who you were made to be! Truly, I am so grateful to God for making me who I am and giving me all of you to love with His love! May God always be number one in our lives, so that we can love each other well and be the church God is calling us to be! In Christ, Fr. Levi

September 14, 2019 Jesus remains on earth through our lives. As children of God we have been given
many gifts. Through these gifts we are adequately equipped to be true Disciples of Jesus. Invite your family members to join you at this month’s celebration. You can tell them all about the service, but as you know, you have to be there to experience the love for Jesus that fills the church and the hearts of the people. This month the presider will be our Father Levi Hartle and Joe Jacobs will share his thoughts as witness speaker. The service also includes motivational music, an inspira-tional homily, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament ending with benediction. Visit our Festival of Praise page on the Catholic Community of South Pittsburgh website.

DEACON MIKE’S CORNER
An old priest was dying. He sent a message for his doctor and his lawyer, both church members, to come to his home. When they arrived, they were ushered up to his bedroom. As they entered the room the preacher held out his hands and motioned for
them to sit, one on each side of his bed. The priest grasped their hands, sighed contentedly, smiled and stared at the ceiling. For a time, no one said anything. Both the doctor and lawyer were touched and flattered that the preacher would ask them to be with him during his final moments. They were also puzzled; the preacher had never given them any indication that he particularly liked either of them. They both remembered his many long, uncomfort-able homilies about greed, covetousness and avaricious behavior that made them squirm in their seats. Finally, the doctor said, "Pastor, why did you ask us to come?" The old priest mustered up his strength, then said weakly, "Jesus died between two thieves; and that's how I want to go." No offense to our lawyers and doctors! This little humorous story points out that we often do not know how we are perceived by others. It is obviously based on our actions in life. Take a moment before you act and consider if this is the Catholic Christian thing to do. Consider if your actions reflect the grace of God, and our love for our neighbor. It does not take much to make the other person see God in the person you truly are. God will bless us if we just share a little of Him in our actions with others.

DEACON TIM’S BOOK & MOVIE REVIEW
With the arrival of high school football season, this week's DVD is an entertaining movie on that subject and more. Facing the Giants is an excel-lent 2007 movie that combines high school football, overcoming adversity
and most importantly, Christian faith. This movie is about a high school football coach that has never had a winning season in his six years as Head Coach. Because of this, mounting pressure from frustrated parents, and ongoing challenges in his person-al life he has every reason to give up. But he keeps pray-ing. However, an unexpected visitor challenges him with a message that God put on his heart to tell the coach. Simply put, two farmers were facing a prolonged dry season. Both farmers prayed for rain, but only one farmer prepared his land for the rain. The visitor then asked, "Which farmer are you coach?" This changed the coach's outlook on life and he discovers the strength to persevere and succeed - in all aspects of his life. There is a now famous scene in the middle of the movie that is often referenced in religious, business and coaching circles. I rate this film Four Beards out of Five Beards, because the movie moves a little slow in the begin-ning, when it is introducing the characters, but then quickly picks up to tell the wonderful and believable story. We all face giants in our life, God is larger than any giant or problem in our life, and we can defeat all of them if we just trust in Him. ~Deacon Tim Live Jesus in our hearts…..Forever!

ARE YOU A FAMILY CAREGIVER? Being a caregiver for a family member can be physically and emotionally draining even when we love the person and are happy to help. There are many resources out there to help us understand what we are feeling. Check out www.caregiveraction.org.
We have no way of knowing when our parishioners are in as-sisted living, nursing homes or in the hospital, unless a family mem-ber calls to notify us. If you or a loved one is home-bound, a resident in a nursing home, assisted living fa-cility, or hospitalized, please call Deacon Dan in the Parish office so we can help with Spiritual needs.
