Becton, Jr. Miss Edna Raye Burke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Burke of Fayetteville Road, became the bride November 20 of <k)seph William Anderson Becton, Jr., son of Mrs. Otelia Becton of 1914 Cecil Street and the late Joseph William Anderson Becton. The Rev. E. T. Thompson officiated at the 3:30 P.M. ceremony at the West Durham Baptist Church. The bride, escorted by James Prioleau, her cousin, wore an empire gown of de- lustered satin with an A-line skirt. Chantilly lace appliques accented the bodice and cufTs of the bishop sleeves. Her full- length mantilla of illusion was edged with chantilly lace and attached to a came lot cap. She canried a white prayerbook topped with pink orchids. Mrs. Randolph Harrison of Rocky Mount, sister of the bride, was matroa of honor. She wore an empire gown ol moss green karate accented with gold braid and carried a single yellow pompon. Samuel Becton of Landon, Maryland was best man for his brother. Ushers were Bobby L. Lawrence of Durham and Ran- dolph Harrison of Rocky Mount, brother-in-law of the bride. Mr. and Mrs. Burke were hosts at a reception in the church fellowship hall. The bride is a graduate of Hillside High School and Durham College. She is employed at North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. Mr. Becton graduated from Hillside and North Carolina Central University. He is exe- cutive director of the Human Relations Commission. The couple will reside in Durham. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Boxley Not 27th Wedding Anniversary How a native of Shreveport, Lousiana met a Durham girl and after a hurried courtship married her, is, a heartwarm- ing love story within itself; but, to meet the Boxleys 27 years later and hear them re- call all those years of together- ness is a vivid American story of two people in love and de- termined to remain together awaited the suspenseful mo- ment when the curtain would rise slowly and the characters on stage would begin the dra- ma-announce that dinner is served. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Boxley ce- lebrated their 27th Wedding Anniversary, Friday evening, December 10th. An unpretent- ious, informal, unherald oc- casion was what mama and papa Boxley wanted. They wanted most of all to be alone with their memories of twenty- seven years of marital bliss. The dining table gleamed with china and silverware with a centerpiece of dainty Sweet- heart roses to soften the severi- .. V > ty of precision set table; and candles in slightly tarnished silver holders-a wedding gift from relatives in Shreveport, Louisana-added a shimmering glow to the perfect setting. The outlay for the occasion immediately alerted you that something very special was about to unfold. And so, you ful; fluffy, creamed potatoes, Southern style string beans- clover leaf roll with butter- hot coffee, and papa's favorite dessert-spicy potato custard with whip topping. The bride wore an after "5" dress of pink and white and, a corsage of white orchids tied with pink ribbon. Mr. Boxley was immaculate- ly attired in a Navy Blue busi- ness suit and smiling like a school boy on his first date. During the evening papa was heard to say over and over; "mama grows sweeter as the years come and go." And mama kept saying, "hush, papa!" A well spent evening came to a close with traditional con- gratulations to the groom and best wishes to the bride. The Rev. James Coppedge officiated. Music for the ceremony was rendered by Mrs. Connie Davis, organist, Mrs. Alice Hawkins, organist and soloist. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Somerville of Warrenton, The bridegroom is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Paul Davis of Warrenton. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a semi- fitted while" satin dress with a pearl neckline, long bell-shaped raglan sleeves of alencon lace. Her mantilla was trimmed in the matching lace. Her full length chapel train fell from the mantilla was also made of alencon lace. Her bouquet of white roses was centered with a white corsage. Miss Thurletta Brown of Durham, cousin of the bride was maid of honor. She wore a green crepe gown made identi- cal to that of the bride. Last week Durham High crowned Ks first Mias Durham High. For a girl to be eligible to run she had to be a senior, possess a 2.0 average, and be active in extra curricu- kur activities. Contestants for Mis DHS were Monica Gunn, Lois Harvin, Linda Honeycutt, Nancy Munn and LaNella Smith. On Wednesday an assembly was held to introduce the con- testants to the Student Body. Each girl then chose an enve- lope with a question on which she had to answer. Friday was election day. Voting was done during homeroom and the winner was announced at the Christmas Dance. The bride is the daughterof Mr. and Mrs. EdwardSomerville of Warrenton, Thebridegroom is the son of the

Warrenton.Given in marriage by her

father, the bride wore a semi-fitted while" satin dress with apearl neckline, long bell-shapedraglan sleeves of alencon lace.

Her mantilla was trimmed in

the matching lace. Her fulllength chapel train fell fromthe mantilla was also made ofalencon lace. Her bouquet of

white roses was centered with

a white corsage.
