1. President’s Report Thank you to everyone who helped over the holidays to help with this

term. Online Publicity- SC needs to share and invite people to events in

order to encourage people to attend events, especially as this term is exam term. Co-ordinate with JE and NM.

Stewards for this week need to be mainly from standing committee as the term card is yet to be released. All SC members should be fire trained. If not, talk to TS or OY.

Campus- Term card distribution is next Saturday 24th April. ALL SC members need to help with this, as the sheer volume of term cards cannot be distributed otherwise.

2. Press Report Huffington post blog- this has not been used in the past few terms

but will be started up again this term. It will run mirroring each debate. If you wish to write a piece, contact JH and MS1.

Termcard- will be published at 9am today by the press. Please share the termcard PDF and press releases on Facebook etc.

NDAs- please sign one if you have yet to sign one!

3. Executive Officer’s Report

WEEK AHEADA) Judge Business School debate- first event of term tomorrow 6.45-

8.45pm. We need to provide stewards and AV for the debate tomorrow. We need 6 stewards, ideally from SC.

There are only 100 seats reserved for students so turnout should not be a problem.

The Judge Business School team will look after Stephen Hawking. BB notes that we need to sort out the logistics of how to ensure he travels to the Union etc.

B) Eoin Colfer- Wednesday 22nd- he will arrive at 12.30pm. Will be picked up by SS to go to the Chophouse. Talk at 3pm.

AV team need to provide a projector and leads for a mac. Again we need 2 stewards.

C) Extremism debate- Thursday 23rd- we need 6-8 stewards. Press- not known yet.

GLAs- to be organised this week. AV- MS2 will be there.

D) Red Workshop- Friday 24th- does not require any input from us. Benches need to be set up the night before.

Google form will go out at 5pm on Wednesday 22nd. Only 20 places so let KR know if you can’t sign up on time.

E) Varsity Debate with Oxford (Monogamy)- Next Tuesday- TS believes we most likely only need 4 stewards as not expecting large turnout.

F) Week 2- Archbishop of York, Right to Offend, ICYD finals etc.

4. Campus Publicity Termcard distribution this Saturday 25th April. CP believes it should be completed early by 10-11am, but this is only

possible if everyone on SC helps. Taxi routes should be sorted this week so please let CP know if you

cannot make it. Pick up term cards and wall planners from the union and put them in

individual pigeonholes in the college(s).

5. Speakers Officer’s Report Thank you to everyone who helped over Easter. Speaker dinners- we have yet to receive confirmations from speakers

who are coming whether they want dinner/lunch/nothing Q and A help- there are big clusters of events in Week 4 and in May

week. KR will be unable to do them all therefore other members of SC may be able to do the interview. Contact KR about it.

KR needs someone for the Craig David and Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey) interviews.

6. Online Publicity Report JE and NM’s requests should be adhered to in order to ensure we get

a large turnout to events. Please share and invite people to the events! Create a separate list of Facebook friends who are members of the

Union in order to cut short the time it takes to invite people to Union events.

There may be separate apps for Chrome users for shortcuts to invite multiple people (‘communities’).

You can also simultaneously invite people on the FB group to the events.

Aim for 1000 or more people invited for debates.

7. Bursar’s Report The Union is both a company and charity thus we are governed in a

certain way. This is not true of the Oxford Union. Eight trustees led by Sir Richard Dearlove, Master of Pembroke

College, govern CUS, the charity. CE is a trustee. Non-charitable activities including parties are run by our subsidiary

company, CUSEL. There are three directors in total and BB is managing director. Nick Wright is another director.

There are legal implications of your actions e.g. instructions may be taken as verbal contracts.

Room booking calendar- please check the calendar prior to booking any events.

If you have any concerns regarding staff, please let BB know. Site Tours- Paddy (the site supervisor) will take you around the site

for a tour so you know where everything is e.g. cellars etc. Senior officers- please ensure you have had a tour from Paddy to

ensure you know about keys and codes.

8. AOB Stewards are essential this week from SC. Fire training does not take

very long- if you are not fire trained, you should have received an email. It is essential that all SC members are fire trained! If you are fire trained but have never stewarded before, please let TS or OY know.

Friday 24th- FIRST SC social. There are two forums this term (Women in STEM, LAD culture)-

need speaker suggestions to JL1 as these have only recently been organised.

Debates committee will start next Monday 27th at 4pm. Please contact FV to get involved.

Speakers committee- Fridays 4-6pm in the dining room, starting this Friday 24th. Please contact SP to get involved.

Treasurer’s committee- contact CI to get involved. Some speakers are yet to be confirmed so do not mention these to

people until they are formally released. Michaelmas team have moved to another IT system (Sharepoint).

Please do not use this, as it is not fully updated yet.

Meeting closed at 08.53
