Over 80 Rotarians and guests arrived to a welcom-ing venue in the Agricultural Building . There was a great array of silent auction items that would appeal to all, including paintings, gift baskets, convection oven, Book of Mormon tickets, Golf packages, golf bags, Flames tickets, first choice of Dream Home shifts, a men’s spring outfit, Books, wine, beer and even jars of hot sauce by Chad Hason.

The live auction items were also diverse and appealing, including a full strip loin, 8 Dream Home shifts, a golf and fishing package at Cottonwood, Lexus of Royal Oak de-tailing package, fresh dressed cow , ammolite jewellery by Korite (Martin Bunting), an original Remington statue and a “Field of Screams” involving a day of goose hunting with John Fitz-

simmons. Your Editor interviewed a few participants for their reaction to the event: Lorna and Len Hamm commented that it was a great event and wonderful items were available for auction. President Bill opened the celebration by calling the gathered Rotarians and guests to their seats. After several tries the nice way, he finally stated “Sit down and shut up!” (It’s like corralling cats when we start visiting, especially with liba-tions close by!) Thank you to Carol Graham (Editor) and Clive Pringle (Photographer) President Bill then invited us to join himself and Glenn Potter in the singing of Oh Canada followed by Rotary Grace. In the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport a Canadian couple were waiting for their return flight to Canada.

They were dressed in full winter gear: heavy parkas, boots, gloves and toques. An American couple were also seated nearby and the wife whispered to the husband “Where do you think they are from?”, remarking on their outerwear. The husband said “Why don’t you ask?”. She approached the couple and asked them , to which the Canadian farmer responded” Saskatoon, Saskatchewan”. She returned to her

seat and the husband asked “So where are they from?” She replied" I don’t know, they don’t speak English!”

President Bill thanked Chloe Dusser and the New Member Celebra-tion Committee for their hard work in organizing this wonderful event and encouraged everyone to have a great evening and spend money for the club. He then introduced the emcee for the evening; John Fitzsimmons who immediately got the room going by asking for bids for the prized end cut of beef being served at the buffet table. The winner also got to pick the second and third table to go to the buffet. This gar-nered $210 and set the mood for the live auction that followed dinner. After a great meal, John thanked the

serving staff and Chefs for the evening. At 8:15 pm The live auction was presided over by our Auc-tioneer Extraordinaire, Ken Copithorne. Ken commented that it was 40 years ago that the club started this celebration. Ken did his usual great work by cajoling the participants to part with their money. The 2018 New Members’ Celebration was a success.

The Bulletin of The Rotary Club of Calgary South Club Announcements

Craig Stokke’s sister Joanne and her daughter Melanie are in Winterthur, Switzerland. Last Friday Joanne and Mela-nie came across a stick out for Humboldt,

They were planning on leaving a thank you note on the door but the owner came home before they had a chance to write it.

My sister and niece let him know that Melanie per-sonally knew one of the boys on the bus and they thanked him for his support. The world is much smaller than we think…

Hello Book Babes, Our next book club meeting is Monday April 16th at 9:30am. Please let me know if you can attend by Noon on THURSDAY April 12th so I can let the Country Club know our numbers. Bring those great books you have read to share with our group. I look forward to seeing you! Cheers and Happy Reading.

ALSO:

We are hosting another book sale during our April 25th

This is a great time to go through the books you have stashed away as well as asking your friends and family for their books. We will be happy to accept novels, mysteries and biographies. There are two ways to deal with your books:

1. Bring them to the luncheon

2. Drop off in the Bed Bath & Beyond parking lot across from Chinook Center on April 4

NEED A MAKEUP?? JUST WANT TO WATCH THIS WEEK’S MEETING?? Members have said that it would be nice to be able to do an online makeup for information that is about Rotary Club of Calgary South. Why pay for an online service when the money donated could go back to our own Club. Thanks to Steve Mason, Craig Stokke and President Bill this is now a reality. For a $20.00 fee you can watch our meeting and receive a makeup at the same time. Online meetings are a great way to stay connected to the Club and if you want or need a makeup you can simply pay $20.00 online and you will receive the makeup. Just go to: www.rotarycs.org At the Home Page go to: “Member Resources” Now go to: “Calgary South Virtual Meetings” which is just below “Bulletins” Click this and you will be taken to a screen which allows you to view our meetings. If you Register and pay online you will be able to receive a makeup. Remember to always create a “NEW” registration

if you are going in to do makeups more than once. The makeup will count for 14 days before or after the date that you paid online just like any other makeup.

We are going to take 3 months to trial this and we hope you will all get online and see what you think.
