Supplying Hope to Our Community

Mike Bonner

The Godhead left such a fabulous example of how

we’re to be evidences of love to each other. While serving one

another the world would see this demonstrated, thus seeing

Christ living in us (John 13.34-35; Gal. 2.20). Hopefully our

community will notice our good works and seek to glorify our

Father in heaven (Matt. 5.16).

Stability is characteristic of Christ. He was called that

Rock which was nourishment for Israel (1 Cor. 10.4). Our

families must see the seriousness of this momentous nourish-

ment and be willing and ready to feed and drink of the word

provided for us through the scriptures (John 4.10ff; 6.22). With

sin on the rise and many becoming professional at it, we must

show them our hope and commitment in Christ. So what stabi-

lizes us? What stabilizes us is the knowledge and application of

God’s word in our lives. Israel Rodriguez said it this way, we

must engage in “Education, Meditation and Application”, pow-

erful thought and worthy of our consideration.

So what can we do to stabilize or get our fellow man

to see the necessity of being stable during these times? They

must see the necessity of making time for God today. Because

of busy lives, distractions from our hand gadgets (modern elec-

tronics coupled with media), and social activities, man has NO

TIME for God (Rom. 12.1-2). Jesus discussed this in the par-

able of the sower “and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness

of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the

word, and it becomes unfruitful…”(Mark 4.19). We must see

the need to spend time with God so we can show our friends

the beauty of His mind and life.

Furthermore brethren, we must show sympathy to-

wards the world and realize the compassion of our God for

them. God told Ezekiel, “Do I have any pleasure at all that the

wicked should die?” (18.23). God’s people must see our com-

munity as a mission field and not a shooting range. God has

given us everything we need for life and godliness… so let’s

stabilize our community of influence today

Building is usually a term seen in a positive light. It

means to construct or to develop. The Lord’s body is His

beautiful church in which He gave His life and blood to pur-

chase her (Col. 1.18; Acts 20.28). Faithfulness is a vital yet

fundamental characteristic that is personified in loyalty and

allegiance to a cause greater than self. With this said, mem-

bers should put their best foot forward in furthering the

cause of Christ, thus enhancing the church.

God was faithful to the promise He made to Israel

when Isaiah prophesied the church being established in Je-

rusalem, and so it was (2.2-3; Acts 2.1-47). Because of the

faithfulness of the Apostles preaching, they were able to

secure her purity through ardent practice of the commands

of Christ. This tradition has been passed down for many

generations and is certainly vivacious for the generation

now living in the church (2 Thess. 2.15). We must keep it

going as well at 9th & Main.

If the church is going to continue her quest towards

heaven with precision she must practice the unity of the

Spirit (Eph. 4.1-6). Jesus prayed for unity among His people

and we must succeed in this charge (Jno. 17.1ff). Endeavor-

ing to keep the unity of the Spirit requires attention and

care. The church must be faithful to sound doctrine (Titus

2.1). If you’ll permit the author to speak frank yet with wis-

dom and prudence, it’s high time for the Lord’s people to

detach themselves from different conclusions concerning

salvation issues in the scriptures (1 Cor. 1.10). When the

church is divided on doctrinal teachings, this is an act of

destruction and devastations and not vigorous construction.

We must recognize the potentiality of souls being lost be-

cause of division and this must stop (Gal. 1.6-10; Titus

1.11). If we’re going to be the called out ones, we must seek

to know the will of God and commence to apply His treasur-

able word to our lives. WE MUST FRIENDS, WE MUST!!!

During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus told the

multitude to make a decision on who they were going to

serve, God or mammon (Matt. 6.24). Furthermore, in the

Old Covenant, Joshua told the Children of Israel to make a

choice of whom they were going to serve…(Josh. 24.15). If

our mark is going to be made in the community we’re resid-

ing in, we must make up our minds to be faithful to the Lord

and His church at all cost. This will require moral tenacity

in a highly immoral world that’s going headlong into wick-

edness. We must realize the gravity of the religious stance

we must take in bringing lost souls to Christ and aiding in

retaining the saved ones.

Our faithfulness must be seen in our ethical position

of speech. Jesus stated plainly how every word (idle) would

meet us in the Judgment (Matt. 12.36). We must get back to

the old adage, “if you do not have something uplifting to

say, then be silent!” Our words should be with grace, sea-

soned with salt… (Col. 4.6). The church must realize her

individual responsibility to build up the local congregation

and ultimately the church universal. Hopefully those who

are outside of Christ will behold our goodly conversation

(life or speech) and seek to want to have an association with

us.

Building up the Lord’s body requires recognition as

well. What is meant by recognition? Individuals must grasp

that the church is not ours, but the Lord’s. Members owe it

to one another to look out for each other, to make sure we

are our brother’s keeper (Gen. 4.9). Christians should be

mindful to demonstrate genuine love for each other and not

be hypocritical in any form or fashion thus causing hurt and

division (Rom. 12.9). This was the Lord’s plea when wash-

ing His disciples feet and it should be ours as well (Jn. 13.1-

35). Since the church belongs to the Lord, let us strive for

oneness thus preferring one above self in the fear of God.

Edifying the church has one goal and that is heaven.

Our faithfulness to God will result in our existence with

Him. He will give those faithful ones, life eternal with Him.

Let us therefore encourage one another to be looking for-

ward to that blessed hope we have in Christ (Titus 2.13).

That hope of a resurrected body and eternal rest with the

Lord. We should be spurring one another to keep their eyes

to the skies, waiting for our beloved Savior to return for His

gorgeous bride one day (Phil. 3.20). Because of the citizen-

ship we have awaiting us, we can demonstrate boldness in

our prayer life, in our impermeable resolve to overcome ad-

versity, in our profundity of strength to bear our brothers or

sister’s burden till they gain strength to do it themselves.

In closing, our message to one another in the body

of Christ is this; stay faithful to God and His Son’s church.

There shouldn’t be anything in life that should shake your

core, because Christ is your core and everything is centered

around Christ (Col.1.1ff). Building the Lord’s Body Re-

quires Faithfulness.

Building the lord’s Body requires faithfulness
