The most prestigious scholarship since 1960 isfor Basic Sciences, Engineering And Medicine.The scholarship amount is ` 1,000 per monthand an annual book grant of ` 1,000. THE VICTORIA INDIADOCTORAL SCHOLARSHIPS2013The Victorian Government, in collaboration withthe Australia India Institute, has launched itssecond round of Victoria India DoctoralScholarships (VIDS) for Indian PhD scholars whowould like to pursue their programme in anyone of the nine Victorian universities – DeakinUniversity, La Trobe University, MonashUniversity, RMIT University, SwinburneUniversity, Australia Catholic University, TheUniversity of Melbourne, University of Ballaratand Victoria University. Theseuniversities have mutually beneficial,

collaborative research links with Indianinstitutions and industry that will help scholarsget hands-on practical experience.

This year, each scholarship will provideAUD$90,000 that will support the livingexpenses and any education travel relatedexpenses and an additional fee waiver ofapproximately AUS$90,000 over a period ofthree years — this amounts to approximately `90 lakh per student. Applicants can choosefrom a range of courses including diabetesprevention, investor protection regulation inthe financial services industry, novel means ofdrug delivery, optical broadband technologiesand treatment of livestock diseases.

wegian fiction writing competition, ‘Inyour shoes’ gives you a chance to show-case your writing skill. Open to people inboth the countries, the competition is aliterary collaboration project that exploresand challenges the perceptions the twocountries have of each other.

The theme of the project being ‘Percep-tions of the other’, applicants are expect-ed to write fictional texts set to be takingplace in Norway and India respectively.The competition is open to people of allages, with the maximum word count fortheir entries being 2,000.

Mira Laurantzon, project coordinatorand initiative taker of the competitionshares, “The aim of the competition ismanifold, to create an opportunity to em-pathise with the other, make the un-known known, and to use your imagina-

tion and fantasise yourself far away.Through the competition, we also aim tocreate an interesting literary challengethat will produce intriguing texts abouthow our imaginations of the other looklike,” she states. Two main winners—one from each country will win a trip tothe country that they wrote about. Theother best entries will be published in ananthology — translated and presented inNorwegian, Hindi and English.

Selected texts will be published in ananthology as well as in the two renownedliterary magazines Pratilipi Bilingual fromIndia and Bokvennen Literary, as well asthe NyTid Global Week, Norway. Selectedtexts will also be used in relation to a re-search project at the University of Oslo.
