The roles of the new hires ranged from English and Spanish to music and science and include a math interventionist. Shonta Langford-Greene, human resources director, said some of those hires were for new positions, like the math interventionist, while others we re to replace st aff members who had recently retired or resigned. In other business, the board approved, 6-1, spending $149,000 for 160 laptop computers for Belleville New Tech students. Trustee Sherry Frazier voted against the purchase. Frazier asked when new computers for the schools would feature Windows 8 as their oper- ating system, instead of Windows 7, which was the operating system for the new laptops. Trustee Kathy Kovach said her husband had recently purchased a new laptop with Windows 8 and they had regretted the purchase. “I’m living it,” she said, referring to the dif- ficulties they had had with the new operating system. “It’s horrible.” Trustee Scott Russell said his employer continued to purchase new computers with Windows 7, and Trustee Kevin English sup- ported the proposal. VAN BUREN TWP. — A 57-year-old Romulusman died after his motorcycle collided with asport utility vehicle Saturday at Hannan andNorth Line roads.

A passenger on the motorcycle sufferedextensive injuries and was taken to a hospital.Police said both the driver and passenger of themotorcycle were thrown off the bike during thecollision.

Emergency services were dispatched shortly

after 9:30 p.m. after the crash was reported,according to police.

Police said a preliminary investigation deter-mined a 20-year-old Ypsilanti man was driving aGMC Yukon west on North Line Road when hecollided with the motorcycle, which was travel-ing south on Hannan Road.

The motorcycle driver, identified as GlennHerring, was pronounced dead at the scene.Jacquelynn Garcia, 50, of Romulus was the pas-senger on the motorcycle. She was transportedto Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center inDearborn.

She was listed in critical condition thereMonday.

The driver of the Yukon was not injured.The township accident investigation team

was called to collect evidence.Alcohol doesn’t appear to have been a factor

in the crash and the incident remains underinvestigation.
