Dedication

The Town Clock Community Development Corp. mourns the passing of our Advisory Board member, Barbara Kagan Littman.

Barbara inspired, encouraged, and helped us plan this exciting Art Sale. Sadly, she is not able to see its fruition.

We believe she would be so happy about how it came together.

We celebrate art and the creative spirit, and thus, dedicate this event to Barbara’s memory.

About Town Clock Community Development Corp.

About Our Name

The Town Clock is located in the steeple of the First Reformed Church of New Brunswick. The steeple was begun in 1827 and completed in 1839. The Town Clock continues to be owned and operated by the city of New Brunswick.

The Town Clock CDC used the Town Clock as inspiration for its name. Though con-

tained within a house of worship, the Town Clock is owned by the community, the

City of New Brunswick. The Town Clock CDC wishes to allow for more of the build-

ing space of the First Reformed Church to serve a community purpose.

Our Mission Statement

Town Clock CDC provides permanent, supportive and affordable homes to survi-

vors of domestic violence and their children.

Our Project

Dina’s Dwellings is the Town Clock CDC’s main endeavor, a project which reconfig-

ures the sanctuary of the First Reformed Church to provide ten affordable housing

units for victims of domestic violence.

As an artist, he took an individualistic approach to his work by never giv-ing in to fads; instead, his body of work is charac-terized by extended series of paintings that ex-plore a particular motif or symbol and are heavily influenced by events in the artist’s own life, in ad-dition to global culture and history.

Title: No Title Artist: Jeffrey M. Green Framed original colored pencil, 15 ¾” X 12 ¾” $120 Donated by: The Artist Jeffrey M. Green is an artist from Bangor, PA. He has been using colored pencils to create his art-work for over 20 years. His pieces emit feelings of peace and calm amidst a chaotic world and above all else depict the beauty of God in the world. His work has been featured in Colored Pencil Magazine, CP Magazine, and Lehigh Val-ley Style Magazine. He currently teaches colored pencil and introduction to drawing workshops. He also gives Colored Pencil Demos and Artists Talk’s in the Lehigh Valley area.

Title: No Title Artist: Giorgio Ferrari Original etching into a zinc plate, hand pressed, and water-colored, signed by artist, 40/150 15” X 12” $120 Donated by: Elizabeth & James Hance This is an original etching by Giorgio Ferrari. He was born in Milan, Italy in 1936 and lives in Montale where he has a studio. His etchings have achieved world-wide distribution. He prefers to record calm, pleasant scenes that send out a posi-tive message despite the deterioration which in-creasingly surrounds us.

His work has been pub-lished in Audubon Magazine, National Geo-graphic, Life, and Wildlife Art.

His brother and son are also artists and the three are used to displaying their work together in Guya’s three room gallery. Guya is an Ethiopian artist who feels a deep connection with the earth and natural life. His paintings are rooted in the soil filled with images of the wild rural land-scapes of his childhood.

Title: No Title Artist: Joseph Schembri Photograph on canvas, 20” X 13” $75 Donated by: Susan Painter Joseph Schembri has been photographing musi-cians and dancers for more than 30 years. He was the resident photographer for the New Jersey Bal-let Company from 1983- 2005 and for the New York International Ballet Competition in 2005. His work focuses on capturing dancers and musi-cians in performance and at rest. The aim is to re-invent these captured moments as a dream-like hybrid of reality and illusion.

Title: Crab Apples in Kettle Artist: Joseph Csatari Print, signed, matted, 20” x 16” $100 together with #30 Donated by: The Artist Joseph Csatari, a New Jersey native, is an inter-nationally acclaimed realist portrait artist, wa-tercolorist, and illustrator. He worked under Norman Rockwell for eight years, and became the official artist of the Boy Scouts of America in 1977. His art has appeared in the Saturday Evening Post, Time, Reader’s Digest, and vari-ous book covers. He has also created advertise-ments for Merrill Lynch, Nabisco, Coleman, and State Farm Insurance.

His paintings have toured nationally and his permanent Boy Scout collection of paint-ings is housed alongside of Norman Rockwell’s at the National Scouting Museum in Texas.

He became their art director, designing cover illustrations and posters.

Barbara Pappendick is a pastel artist who’s im-pressionistic gardens and flowers invite the viewer into a world of lush beauty and brilliant color. She is a member of The Pastel Society of America and the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

He worked closely with Norman Rockwell, who is the famed illustrator of the Boy Scout calendar painting.

She then moved to Maui, HI and lived there for the next 25 years. She took seminars from master pastelist Albert Handell and Daniel Greene and from watercolorist Judi Betts. She loves painting portraits and the figures most of all.

Ms. Danilyants, born in Uzbekistan, studied TV and Cinema in her country before relocating to Canada with her family. Now she is a successful artist working most often with oils and acrylics, whose works are on display in galleries across Eu-rope and North America.

Chong and Judy Lim work together to create beautiful pieces like 6 Birds. Chong does the de-signing. From the original idea he makes the working drawings and carves the design into a metal plate. Judi also studied printmaking and painting in college. She does the presswork (the actual embossing and coloring).

Title: “Winter Walk #5” Artist: David Shapiro, signed Mixed media, matted, framed, signed, 6/50, 14” x 18 ½” $200 Donated by: Sandy Soriano David Shapiro was an American abstract artist born in 1944 in Brooklyn, NY. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute in 1966 and his MFA from Indiana University in 1968. His abstract artwork often uses different col-ors, forms, and textures to evoke feelings of meditative consciousness and tranquility and is influenced by Eastern traditions. His work has been displayed at the museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggen-heim Museum in New York. This piece, “Winter Walk #5” has a calming effect on the viewer and makes one think of the stillness of walking in the snow on a winter day.

Title: South Window in May Artist: Isabel Kann Framed Poster, 37 ½ X 24 ½” $60 Donated by: The Suydam Family Isabel Kann was born in 1921 in Bangalore, India. She studied at the Bournemouth Art School in England and the Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland. She moved to Canada in the 1950s and exhibited art for the next 30 years. A still-life painter of interiors, she creates a world of famili-arity and calm whether it be a simple table, vase of flowers, open window, or oriental rug.

Title: No Title Artist: Dane Tilghman Print, framed, matted , 20” X 27” $100 Donated by: Susan Painter Dane Tilghman is one of America’s most sought after African-American artists of his time. He was born in 1957 in West Chester, PA. He uses pencil, acrylics, and watercolors in his paintings to create scenes that are full of life and complexi-ty. He has exhibited work throughout the U.S. at festivals, art galleries, trade shows, and conven-tions where he has received numerous awards. He has created baseball murals for Citizen’s Ball-park in Philadelphia for the Phillies and for Turner Stadium in Atlanta, GA.

Title: Breton Girl Artist: Hibel Framed Print, 87/140, 22 ½” X 19”, signed $400 Donated by: Barbara Littman Edna Hibel has received many humanitarian honors for her more than one half century in raising donations with her work for children's and medical charities. She has also used her hu-manistic and compassionate work to bring peace through cultural understanding between China and the United States, Yugoslavia and the United States and Russia and the United States with her "Golden Bridge" and " Peace Through Wisdom" exhibits in those countries.

Title: Unknown Artist: Milia Laufer Oil on canvas, signed, 21 ½” X 13 ½” $300 Donated by: Barbara Littman Ms. Laufer is a Romanian-Israeli artist, who painted traditional landscapes and still lifes in soft, cheerful colors. She studied at the Art School of Cernowitz before moving to Israel and studying with the acclaimed aquarellist Tadeus Rychter. His influence is apparent in her delicate and careful watercolors and oils. She was a sig-nificant constituent in Safed’s artist quarter where she worked from 1951 until she died in 2008.

Title: Mid 20th Century Ikats 35 ½” $150 Donated by: Jeffrey Aaron

An Ikats is a fabric made using an Indonesian technique in which a warp of weft threads are tie dyed before weaving. This Ikats is in the form of a small rug or mat.
