The long awaited Reopening…. May God be Praised!!!

The staff and priests of St. Anastasia Church are very excited to welcome you back home as we begin our cautious “reopening” of St. Anastasia Parish.

The Diocese of Palm Beach is asking us to follow the three-phased “reopening” with protocols that will be followed during this process. Below is the timeline each parish in the diocese has been asked to follow, this will also apply to the Parish of St. Anastasia.

Monday, May 18th, our parish opened (from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm) for private prayer and visits by the faithful only. Monday, May 25th, we will resume our 8:15 am public daily Mass. While continuing our modified church hours of visitation and for private prayer (from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm). Saturday, May 30th, we will have our morning daily Mass at 8:15 am. Following the morning Mass, the church will reopen at 3:00 pm for scheduled confessions. Saturday, May 30th, the 4 pm vigil will be a Mass reserved only for the catechumens, candidates and their families. They will be receiving the Sacraments of Initiation at this Mass. It will mirror that of the Easter Vigil. The Mass will be much longer than one hour. (Please see the more detailed schedule for the upcoming week on the next page) Sunday, May 31st, will resume our normal Sunday Mass schedule for public attendance by the faithful.

The protocols that we are asked to follow and observe for the common good are as follows: Those attending the Mass: • Appropriate social distancing will be observed. For those who do not wear a face mask there will be designated

spacing (but limited section) of 6 feet to observe (except for families and couples) and the spacing of every other pew will be observed. Please note, by wearing a face mask, it will provide the parish the opportunity to accommodate more parishioners (without exceeding limit of our 50% capacity).

• Face masks are Highly, Highly, Highly Recommended, to be utilized while in church except for reception of Holy communion.

• It is recommended to bring hand sanitizer and safety wipes to be used to sanitize your hands after arriving in church, before reception of Holy Communion, and after leaving church.

• Care must also be taken not to touch one’s face during the Mass. • Holy Communion will follow appropriate distancing. • It is highly recommended, for the safety of others as well as the recipient, that the option of receiving the

Eucharist in the hand be employed at this time. • No reception of the Precious Blood during this time • There will be no sign of peace, greeting of peace before Mass or the holding of hands during the Our Father. • Your tithing is vital to our ability to serve our community. Collection boxes at the entrance of the church and 6 foot

collection baskets will be available for your convenience. Thank you for your support. • It is recommended that there be no public gatherings before or after Mass. Protocols observed by the clergy until further notice from the dioceses: • Priests, deacons or extraordinary ministers will wear a face mask for the distribution of Holy Communion. • Few people as possible in the sacristy before and after Mass. • No public gatherings before or after Mass. Protocols observed for the parish until further notice from the dioceses: • Only a cantor and an instrumentalist will be utilized for limited liturgical singing. • Holy water fonts will remain empty • No altar servers are permitted • There will be no offertory procession for the presentation of the gifts. • Priests, deacons or extraordinary ministers will wear a face mask for the distribution of Holy Communion. No gloves are to be worn by the minister or recipient. • The church will be appropriately sanitized. • The live streaming of Masses in our parish will continue.

Let us not lose heart or become tired from the difficulty and challenges we are all facing as a result of the protocols we must observe, for the safety of us all. We need to bring all our frustration to the Lord. It is a blessing for us to return, let us celebrate and be grateful for what we have and not be resentful for what we think we should have. God will provide all we need, our response to the Lord, should be trust with a grateful heart.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Richard E. George II, Pastor

Prayer for Protection in the Face of the Coronavirus Pandemic

Loving and gracious God, as in all times, we turn to You and implore Your protection and healing as we face a new threat to our health and peaceful well-being in the coronavirus pandemic before us. Help us to be united with each other and with all of our brothers and sisters around the world affected by this illness. We pray for all those in the medical field who are assisting patients and in the field of science who are discerning a cure, as well as for all government leaders. Remember those who, through this virus, have passed from this life as well as their families in their loss. At this time of fragile uncertainty, we also humbly implore You to grant us prudence, hope, courage and patience. Dispel from us fear, panic and distrust which disrupt us in spirit to the detriment of our well-being. We make our prayer in the name of your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who always cured those who were sick with various diseases and drove out many demons. Our Lady, Patroness of our Diocese, Queen of the Apostles and Comforter of the Afflicted, pray for us, Amen.

St. Anastasia Church & School Joint Capital Campaign

It has been a while since I have given our community an update on the progress of our capital campaign. I am pleased to report we are doing well considering the financial challenges associated with the Coronavirus Pandemic. I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unconditional and heroic efforts as you continue to actively support the capital campaign, DSA and weekly tithing.

Where are we in the process? Right now, we just completed the architectural prints and we are talking to contractors. As we continue to move forward to bring the church bathrooms up to code and provide a handicap ramp in the narthex, along with other needed renovations, we could realistically complete this phase of the capital improvements in November.

Your ongoing support, prayers and financial assistance ensures the success of this phase of the project. It is exciting to work together as a community as we plan and execute needed improvements and updates for future sustainability for the next generation of St. A's families.

Thank you to the 207 Families who have already contributed to our 2020 DSA!

Please prayerfully consider donating to our 2020 DSA goal!

Welcome Our New Parochial Vicar Fr. Michael Cairnes

Please join me in welcoming our New Parochial Vicar Fr. Michael Cairnes. He comes to us by way of Holy Family in Port St. Lucie. He is a native of West Palm Beach Florida. Fr. Mike is the second oldest of four siblings. His parents are Jan and Ed Cairnes. He graduated from Cardinal Newman High School in 2004, attended the University of Central Florida for one year before entering St. John Vianney College Seminary. After his minor seminary work, he went to St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary and was ordained a priest forever on May 4, 2013.

When asked why he became a priest he says, "I was bowled over by the love of Jesus." He will go on to say, "he is a Christian by the grace of God in recogni-tion that without Christ everything dies."

Fr. Mike will begin his official assignment at St. Anastasia on July 1, 2020. I knew Fr. Mike while he was a young teenager at Cardinal Newman High School, when I was teaching there from 1997-2004. Fr. Mike is a gifted priest, preacher, inspiring and comfortable with all age groups and cultures. Let us continue to pray for him as we thank the Lord for the generous gifts and blessings He tirelessly bestows upon our faith filled parish community of St. A's. Welcome aboard Fr. Mike to the best parish in the Diocese of Palm Beach.

The Pandemic Rosary

Pope Francis encouraged the faithful to pray the Rosary throughout the month of May. In a April 25th letter, he said “contemplating the face of Christ with the heart of Mary our Mother will make us even more united

as a spiritual family and will help us overcome this time of trial.”

He requests that families and individuals “rediscover the beauty of praying the rosary at home in the month of May.” Instagram user For

Dust Thou Art shared a beautiful method of praying the Rosary amidst the coronavirus pandemic. In the original post, the user writes, “Here’s something I’ve been working on in isolation. I wrote five prayers to be

used at the Mysteries (in lieu of, or along with). I hope this brings a little light to your day. Stay safe out there!” The Rosary includes a simple

diagram explaining the intention for each mystery. The user includes a prayer for the suffering and dying, a prayer for the workers, a prayer for

gratitude, a prayer for understanding, and a prayer for courage.

1. Sign of the Cross; Apostles Creed 2. Our Father 3. Hail Mary 4. Glory Be 5. Prayer for the Suffering and Dying; Our Father 6. Our Father 7. Hail Mary (x10) 8. Glory Be 9. Prayer of Workers; Our Father 10. Hail Mary (x10) 11. Glory Be

Catholics Around the World Are Praying the Rosary Together with New Website “Map of Hope” Group of friends Joe Kim, Joanna Hernandez, and Mike Del Ponte developed an amazing way for the world to gather in praying the rosary amid the coronavirus pandemic. The group created a “Map of Hope,” encouraging faith and prayer rather than fear. The map invites prayer warriors to post prayer intentions and commit to praying the rosary for those intentions. In response to the fear that tracking the coronavirus naturally creates, the map instead tracks each person’s place of prayer. “Like most people, everyday we looked at maps tracking the coronavirus,” the creators explain on the website.

“These maps kept getting worse, showing how the pandemic – and fear – was taking over the world. So we asked ourselves, ‘What if we could create something that gives people hope?’ “It would be simple,” they continue. “It would track something inspiring. Something that gets better every day. A movement of people around the globe. Immediately, we thought, ‘It should be the rosary!’

“From these simple insights, the Map of Hope was born.” Pope Francis also encourages the faithful to pray the rosary throughout the month of May. What perfect timing!

The Ascension is one of the great feasts of the Church. Jesus went up, Body and Soul, into Heaven to be with His Father where He is waiting for all of us. Can you imagine what it was like for the apostles to see their leader and best friend going up to Heaven? It would

be pretty amazing, don’t you think?

At the same time, doesn’t it seem a bit sad that Jesus left? Well, He knew it was time for His disciples to start working on their own. It was kind of like having someone there to help you

learn to ride a bike and then they let you go so you can learn to bike on your own.

But Jesus didn’t go away and leave us without any help. Nine days after we went into Heaven He send the Holy Spirit, who would help and guide His followers.
