THEARTOFTHEQUARTETisthenameofanall-starband,consistingoffour of themost in-demand, versatile and topclass jazzmusicians on thescenetoday.

Betweenthemtheyhaveworkedwithwho’swhoinjazz,butthistimetheyhavedecidedtocometogetherandrefine thepotentialof theclassic jazzquartetformation.

All fourmusicians contribute compositions,whichdraw inspiration fromexpressionsasdiverseassaxlegendJohnColtrane,theclassicalcomposerCharlesIves,“HawaiiBathingOpportunities”and“Odd-MeterFusion”.Theworks are tied together by four virtuososwho have taken interplay andcollectivemusicaldialoguetoanewlevel.

For almost a decade, one of themost prominent European jazz soloists,saxophonistBenjaminKoppelandthe iconicAmerican jazzpianistKennyWernerhavehadalongandfruitfulcollaboration.

Theirwork together comprisesmore than10 albums, including awidelypraisedduoalbum”Walden,”andanalbumbytheircollective”Coalition”withLionelLouekeandMiguelZenon.

Theyhaveplayedandrecordedtogethernumeroustimesalongsidegreatslike JimHall, JoeLovano, LeeKonitz,RandyBrecker, ChrisPotter,BobbyWatson,DavídSanchez,AvishaiCohen,andcontinuetochallengeeachothermusicallywithnewandinnovativeprojectsbothintheUSandinEurope.

Since 2012, Benjamin Koppel has recorded several albumswith the triocollectivehe createdwithdrummerBrianBlade andbassist ScottColley.Koppel and Erskine have played and recorded together; in 2011 theyreleasedthealbum”OneTwoThreeFour.”

Allinall,thesefourmusiciansknoweachothermorethanwell,andarebothmusicallyandpersonallytightconnected.

Itisthereforeonlynaturalthattheyformed”THEARTOFTHEQUARTET,”anewbandthatpremieredattheCopenhagenJazzFestival.Andnowthemusicians aswell as audiences have demanded a re-run,more concerts,touring,andeventuallyalbums!
