The Antidote To Fear, Mark 4:35-41

After a long day of teaching and preaching Jesus and his disciples are on a boat escaping the crowds. Jesus is exhausted. He's at the back of the boat and asleep on a cushion. A furious squall comes up and the disci-ples panic. They wake Jesus and rebuke him for not caring about them. Jesus rebukes the storm, "Peace! Be still!" Then he rebukes the disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" Then, after the storm is calm and the danger past, "the disciples were terrified" - not of the wind and waves, but of the power of their teacher.

Would Jesus rebuke us today? We face storms of our own - uncertainty about the direction of our nation, ter-rorism, deteriorating norms and standards within our society. And take a look at our prayer list - it's long. The waters are not calm. Like the disciples we may feel helpless and afraid.

What was Jesus' answer to fear? Faith. Not bravery or grit or tenacity, but faith. Faith is the antidote to fear. The Son of God went with his disciples into the storm with power they didn't comprehend. He'll go with us into ours.

One in Christ A Study of Unity in Ephesians-taught by Craig Hayes in the West Fellowship Hall In Ephesians 1:5, Paul writes that God predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself. Paul then goes on to show what God intended for us a unified working body. So what does it mean to be unified? How is unity created and maintained? What can we do individually to realize Christian unity? And what might be accomplished if we saw unity as God intended?
