In last week's AMPJJIFIER you probablyread about the joint meeting of theAnderson-Carlisle Techn:tcal' Society withLhe Montana Section of AINIE" which washeld in MuseumHall en May12 It If youdidn't attend themeeting~ you missed avery good programo One student from eachof the five degree-granting departmentspresented a report of a technical in-vestigati.on being conducted in that de-partment"

It seemed to me that these five papersaveraged very high in organization andclarity. Manyof th9 illustrations alsowere excellent.. The overall effect wasso good that many senior ADm: memberscommentedon the fine presentations e

I was ~mpressed by another point inthis program~ the interest of ourEngineering Departments on original in-vestd.gat.Lons, One is working on an im-proved hydraulic method of hOisting orep

another on a very important aspect offlotation, and so on in each depar-tmerrt,Manyan engineer has learned only out~of-date methods, because nit's in the book.uSuch an engineer stands in his ownway. The manwho will grow is the one who knowsthat engineering isn't static, it's highlydynamic. Our graduates, trained in de-.partments where original investigation isgoing on, are not likely to make the mis-take of ignoring new ideas ..
