The relationship between Paul and Barnabas was one of union, collaboration and proclamation of the Kingdom of God. In its proclamation we see the definition of an inclusive reality. The Kingdom of God is for all and for those who understand this reality there is no fear. Illness, neither personal problems nor shortages have the last word because "it is Christ who lives in me." The believer has peace. In the midst of its vicissitudes and challenges, he lives in peace and shares it. The believer expresses his fidelity to God in dealing with his neighbor and is finally blessed by the Most High. Their resources multiply, their life, guided by the Holy Spirit, is filled with hope, energy and joy. Her strength to face all the challenges that come her way, is based on doing the will of her Father in the light of a genuine encounter with her Son. By having an encounter with Jesus Christ, recognizing him as a savior and seeing him in his neighbor, we develop an intentional relationship with God and our neighbor bearing fruit by calling us disciples. When Jesus speaks of his relationship with the Father he presents us with a model of unity. It is a call to the sense of belonging and permanence. They are one in only one will. It is finding within the human diversity the unitive point. For the Christian, the unitive point is that we are all children of God and brothers and sisters through Jesus Christ. The foundation of the first community was precisely what the gospel tells us this Sunday. We are one in Christ. Christ calls us to be one. We begin by knowing, accepting and understanding that we must recognize Christ as the only main access to the Father. This implies being faithful to the Most High, to the one who is above everything, including any preference, taste, inclination or personal agenda. If we love him, we can love our neighbor. But the first step is always Jesus. We have to know him and have an intentional relationship by accepting him as the Good Shepherd, the True Vine and our salvation. Christ had an effect on the world through his life, works, death and resurrection, changing the history of humanity. We, the believers, have to carry out his plan of salvation for the whole world, cooperating so that humanity may continue to encounter Christ. We are the hands and the voice of God before our neighbor, taking the redemptive hope to our life and sharing it with our neighbor. It is in the ordinary of our lives that we take the wonderful task of sharing the extraordinary of life in Christ. Together we can be strong, bear fruit and be called his disciples walking towards the Father.

La relación entre Pablo y Bernabé era una de unión, colaboración y proclamación del Reino de Dios. En su proclamación vemos la definición de una realidad inclusiva. El Reino de Dios es para todos y para aquellos que comprenden esta realidad no hay miedo. La enfermedad, ni los problemas personales, ni las carencias tienen la última palabra porque “es Cristo quien vive en mí.” El creyente tiene paz. En medio de sus vicisitudes y desafíos vive en la paz y la comparte. El creyente expresa su fidelidad a Dios en el trato con el prójimo y finalmente es bendecido por el Altísimo. Sus recursos se multiplican, su vida, guiada por el Espíritu Santo, se llena de esperanza, energía y gozo. Su fuerza para encarar todos los retos que se le presenten, está basada en hacer la voluntad de su Padre a la luz de un encuentro genuino con su Hijo. Al tener un encuentro

con Jesucristo, reconociéndolo como salvador y viéndolo en el prójimo, desarrollamos una relación intencional con Dios y el prójimo dando frutos al llamarnos discípulos.

Cuando Jesús habla de su relación con el Padre nos presenta un modelo de unidad. Es un llamado al sentido de pertenencia y permanencia. Son uno solo en una sola voluntad. Es encontrar dentro de la diversidad humana el punto unitivo. Para el cristiano el punto unitivo es el que todos somos hijo de Dios y hermanos a través de Jesucristo. El cimiento de la primera comunidad fue precisamente lo que nos indica el evangelio e este domingo. Somos uno en Cristo. Cristo nos llama a ser uno. Comenzamos por saber,

aceptar y comprender que debemos reconocer a Cristo como único acceso principal al Padre. Este implica el ser fiel al Altísimo, a aquel que está por encima de todo, incluyendo toda

preferencia, gusto, inclinación o agenda personal. Si lo amamos podemos amar al prójimo. Pero el primer paso siempre es Jesús. Tenemos que conocerle y tener una relación intencional aceptándolo como el Buen Pastor, la Verdadera Vid y nuestra salvación. Cristo tuvo un efecto en el mundo a través de su vida, obras, muerte y resurrección, cambiando la historia de la humanidad. Nosotros, los creyentes, tenemos que llevar a cabo su plan de salvación para el mundo entero, cooperando para que la humanidad continúe encontrándose con Cristo. Somos las manos y la voz de Dios ante nuestro prójimo, llevando la esperanza redentora a nuestra vida y compartiéndola con el prójimo. Es en lo ordinario de nuestras vidas donde llevamos la maravillosa tarea de compartir lo extraordinario de la vida en Cristo. Unidos podemos ser fuertes, dar fruto y ser llamados sus discípulos caminando hacia el Padre.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you! We are treated in this Sunday’s Gospel Reading to the wonderful parable of the vine and the branches. In the fifteenth chapter of John, Jesus refers to himself as the true vine and God the Father as the vine grower. Our Lord uses the symbolic representation of the vine, branches, and fruit to teach his disciples and by extension us, about the prime importance of always remaining rooted in God. Christ identifies his relationship with the Father as one of total dependence. Everything he has he receives from his loving Father, and everything he does is in response to that love. As followers of Christ, we are also called to live in recognition and appreciation of all God gives us. If we are honest with ourselves, we can easily identify everything in our life as coming from God. Our proper response to this reality therefore, should be one of gratitude and praise to God. We show it by doing what we know is pleasing to Him with patience, humility, and trust. Thank you loving God for all the graces, gifts, and blessings You have lavishly bestowed upon us. ¡La Paz del Señor esté con ustedes! En la lectura del Evangelio de este Quinto Domingo de Pascua se nos presenta la hermosa parábola de la vid y los sarmientos. En el Capítulo 15 de Juan, Jesús se refiere a sí mismo como la vid verdadera y Dios el Padre como viñador. Nuestro Señor usa la representación simbólica de la vid, las ramas y frutas para enseñar a sus discípulos-y por extensión nosotros-acerca de la importancia primordial de permanecer siempre enraizado en Dios. Cristo identifica su relación con el Padre como una de dependencia total. Todo lo que tiene lo recibe de su Padre amoroso, y todo lo que hace es en respuesta a ese amor. Como seguidores de Cristo, nosotros también estamos llamados a vivir en el reconocimiento y apreciación de todo lo que recibimos de Dios. Si somos honestos con nosotros mismos, reconoceríamos que todo en nuestra vida procede de Dios. Por lo tanto, la respuesta adecuada a esta realidad debe ser uno de gratitud y alabanza a Dios. Esto lo mostramos haciendo con paciencia, humildad y confianza lo que sabemos es agradable a Él. Catholic Charities Collection on Mother’s Day

As a senior citizen, Antonia does not have much income left after paying for rent, medications, and daily supplies. She relies on the Catholic Charities Senior Food Nutrition Program for all of her meals. Last year 145,547 food packages were delivered to low-income seniors in Cook and Lake counties. Without the food they receive from us, they would have to choose between a healthy diet and paying for medication and other necessities. Sin la comida que les enviamos, tendrían que elegir entre tener una dieta saludable o pagar por sus medicamentos y otras necesidades. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Wednesday in the Thiele Center from 10am to noon. This group knits and crochets prayer shawls while praying individually and as a group for the recipient of each shawl. These shawls

represent a visible symbol of our prayers and presence. Shawls have been given to those facing challenging times, illness or to celebrate a special moment to bring the comfort and warmth of God’s love and healing. For more information on how to request a prayer shawl please contact the parish office, 773-278-4808.

El Ministerio Mantas de Oración se reúne todos los miércoles en el Centro Pastoral de 10am a medio día. Este grupo hace mantas de oración hechos de tejido o de ganchillo mientras rezan individualmente y como grupo para que el receptor de cada manta. Estas mantas representan un símbolo visible de nuestras oraciones y presencia. Las mantas se han dado a aquellos que enfrentan tiempos difíciles, enfermedad o para celebrar un momento especial para llevar el apoyo y la calidez del amor de Dios y la sanación.
