"The word of God is alive, effective and more penetrating than a two-edged sword ..." With this description taken from the second reading this Sunday, we see how the word of God is eternal and organic at the same time, evolves and does not die. What gives you permanence? The fact that his message comes from the Creator and is always the same; God wants salvation for the human being. What makes it evolutionary? The possibility that the human being will listen to her, understand her and allow her to make changes in her life according to the condition of each person. This does not mean that it is relative or individualistic but that the potential for the word to grow and flourish in anybody is a reality for all. The created is born of the word of God and the relationship between the permanent and the living. Creation is the message of the Creator. That voice, that word, must be received without limitations, with generous ears and hearts, that are not vitiated by personal agendas. When listening to the word of God we must understand that He does not send us a message to please us, out of pure sentimentality or to use it against anyone. The word of God has to resonate and make changes. It was precisely that challenge with the man of the gospel in his encounter with Jesus. We infer from the narration that he was a man with knowledge of the commandments, young and with a desire to deepen his faith. When Christ perceives the great potential of the individual he even invites him to follow him. But the young man only reached that level, the mere desire or simply the good intention. He could not follow Christ. His life, his heart, his mind kept busy with other matters. His moorings were many and he simply could not or did not want to get rid of that which prevented him from following Jesus. The question for us is: What prevents us from following Jesus in his totality? What are the elements, the circumstances, the people who bind us, who prevent us from following God? It can be money or an inappropriate relationship. It can be the negative influence of a person we love or our cowardice in making crucial decisions that change the comfort of our existence. It can be a feeling of pride, of not forgiving, of self-sufficiency or an old resentment that controls us and does not make us free. Whatever the obstacle, let it go! The Kingdom of God, the salvation of our soul is worth any personal agenda, any sacrifice that is made in the name of the Lord and not a personal interest. It is leaving everything aside to follow Jesus, turning him into the primordial, the absolute and the center of our lives. It is leaving everything behind and moving towards the salvific horizon of our redemption. It is walking with Jesus to be able to walk with him to the glory of our Father God.

“La palabra de Dios es viva, eficaz y más penetrante que una espada de dos filos…” Con esta descripción tomada de la segunda lectura de este domingo, vemos como la palabra de Dios es eterna y a la vez orgánica, evoluciona y no muere. ¿Qué le da permanencia? El hecho de que su mensaje viene del Creador y siempre es el mismo; Dios quiere la salvación para el ser humano. ¿Qué la hace evolutiva? La posibilidad de que el ser humano la escuche, la entienda y permita que haga cambios en su vida de acuerdo a la condición de cada persona. Esto no quiere decir que sea relativa o individualista sino que el potencial para que la palabra pueda crecer y florecer es una realidad para todos. Lo creado nace de la palabra de Dios y de la relación entre lo permanente y vivo. La creación es el mensaje del Creador. Esa voz, esa palabra, debe de ser recibida sin limitaciones, con oídos y corazón generosos, que no estén viciados por agendas personales. Al escuchar la palabra de

Dios debemos entender que Él no nos envía un mensaje para complacernos, por puro sentimentalismo o para utilizarlo en contra de nadie. La palabra de Dios tiene que resonar y hacer cambios.

Fue precisamente ese el desafío con el hombre del evangelio en su encuentro con Jesús. Deducimos por la narración que era un hombre conocedor de los mandamientos, joven y con un deseo de profundización en su fe. Cuando Cristo percibe el gran potencial del individuo inclusive hasta le invita a seguirle. Pero el joven solamente llegó a ese nivel, al mero deseo o simplemente a la buena intención. No pudo seguir a Cristo. Su vida, su corazón, su mente se mantenían ocupadas con otros asuntos. Sus amarres eran muchos y simplemente no pudo o

no quiso deshacerse de aquello que le impedía seguir a Jesús. La pregunta para nosotros es ¿Qué nos impide a seguir a Jesús en su totalidad? ¿Cuáles son los elementos, las circunstancias, las personas que nos amarran, que

nos impiden seguir a Dios? Puede ser el dinero o una relación inapropiada. Puede ser la influencia negativa de una persona a quien queremos o nuestra cobardía en tomar decisiones cruciales que cambien la comodidad de nuestra existencia. Puede ser un sentimiento de soberbia, de no perdonar, de autosuficiencia o un viejo resentimiento que nos controla y no nos hace libres. ¡Cualquiera que sea el obstáculo hay que dejarlo ir! El Reino de Dios, la salvación de nuestra alma vale la pena cualquier agenda personal, cualquier sacrificio que se haga en el nombre del Señor y no de un interés personal. Es dejarlo todo a un lado por seguir a Jesús, convirtiéndolo en lo primordial, lo absoluto y el centro de nuestras vidas. Es el dejar todo atrás y movernos hacia el horizonte salvífico de nuestra redención. Es caminar con Jesús para poder caminar con él hacia la gloria de nuestro Padre Dios.

This Catechetical Corner is devoted to presenting to you one of our four catechists for this year:

Letticia E. Lopez is serving in her second year as our Confirmation Catechist. She was born in Puerto Rico, and presently lives in Oak Park, Illinois. Ms. Lopez worked for twenty years as a Sergeant with the Police Department in Puerto Rico, and is currently employed as a Social Worker with the Department of Human Services (IDHS) in Chicago. Letticia earned a Bachelor Degree in Social Science with a specialization in Labor Relations, as well as Industrial Engineering. She also possesses a Masters Degree in Business Administration, specializing in Marketing. In addition, Letticia completed the Archdiocese of Chicago two-year Lay Ministry Formation Program in Spanish, or Liderazgo Pastoral, at the University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois. She also has completed the Liderazgo Cristófero program.

Este Rincón Catequético es dedicada a presentarles a una de nuestras cuatro catequistas para este año:

López trabajó por 20 años como Sargento de la Policía de Puerto Rico, y en el presente funciona como Trabajadora Social para el Departamento de Asuntos Humanos (IDHS) en Chicago. Letticia posee un Bachillerato en Ciencias Sociales con especialidad en Relaciones Laborales, y en Ingeniería Industrial. Ella obtuvo su Maestría en Administración de Empresas, con especialización en Mercadeo. También obtuvo su certificación en el programa de dos años de formación del ministerio laico de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago, llamado Liderazgo Pastoral, de la Universidad de Santa Maria del Lago en Mundelein, Illinois, al igual que certificación en el programa de Liderazgo Cristófero.

Día de los Difuntos -All Souls Day St. Aloysius Parish will be celebrating a bilingual Mass for ALL SOULS DAY on Friday, November 2nd at 7:00 p.m. If you would like to remember your beloved one with a cross please fill out the registration information below and submit it to the rectory and we will place the name of your beloved one on the cross. Other beloved ones can be remembered during weekday mass. We will be accepting registrations until October 28.

La Parroquia de San Luis Gonzaga celebrará una Misa bilingüe para el Día de los Difuntos el viernes, 2 de noviembre a las 7 de la noche. Si le gustaría recordar a su difunto llene la inscripción y preséntela a la oficina y colocaremos una cruz con el nombre de su difunto. Otros difuntos pueden ser recordados en las misas semanales. Next Weekend, we celebrate World Mission Sunday. As Pope Francis reminds us, “the mission of the Church bridges the generations; our faith in God and our love of neighbor are a source of profound unity.” World Mission Sunday calls us to

solidarity with communities of faith where the Church is young, struggling, or economically strained, particularly in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. Please pray for our brothers and sisters in faith and be generous in next week’s collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. El próximo fin de semana celebramos el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones. Como nos recuerda el papa Francisco, “la misión de la Iglesia construye Puentes inter-generacionales, en los cuales la fe en Dios y el amor al prójimo constituyen factores de unión profunda”. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Wednesday in the Thiele Center from 10am to noon. This group knits and crochets prayer shawls while praying individually and as a group for the recipient of each shawl. These shawls represent

a visible symbol of our prayers and presence. Shawls have been given to those facing challenging times, illness or to celebrate a special moment to bring the comfort and warmth of God’s love and healing. El Ministerio Mantas de Oración se reúne todos los miércoles en el Centro Pastoral de 10am a medio día. Este grupo hace mantas de oración hechos de tejido o de ganchillo mientras rezan individualmente y como grupo para que el receptor de cada manta. Estas mantas representan un símbolo visible de nuestras oraciones y presencia. Las mantas se han dado a aquellos que enfrentan tiempos difíciles, enfermedad o para celebrar un momento especial para llevar el apoyo y la calidez del amor de Dios y la sanación.
