Electric Vehicle (EV) modesThe all-new Kuga Plug-In Hybrid helps you reach your destination moreefficiently by using two sources of power. You can choose when to run onelectric power and when to use the vehicle’s efficient 2.5L Atkinson-cyclepetrol engine – or let Kuga choose for you in Auto EV mode. During everyjourney, the vehicle will be reclaiming energy whenever decelerating or braking.

The all-new Kuga’s forward-thinking Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) technology delivers outstandingperformance, together with impressive fuel economy and remarkably low emissions figures.

What is PHEV?Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) vehicles have thefunctionality of full Hybrid (HEV) technology, withthe added advantage that they can be chargedfrom an external electricity supply.

PHEV technology, like full Hybrid, utilises twoseparate power sources, switching between thevehicle’s conventional petrol engine and abattery-powered electric motor. However,because PHEV relies mostly on external charging,once the battery is almost depleted the vehiclebehaves like a hybrid, with the petrol enginerunning when necessary.

A PHEV has a larger battery compared with otherhybrid vehicles. This allows you to drive further onelectric only power, with Kuga capable of drivingup to 56 km* with zero emissions. As hybrids,PHEV vehicles also have the ability to ‘reclaim’energy when decelerating or braking (energy thatwould be otherwise wasted) to help recharge thebattery.
