The Achiever • Family Spotlights

In TRIO Pre-College we are well aware that we do not only serve students, we serve families. Over the years we have been fortunate to serve multiple family members in one or more of our pre-college programs. We would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to some of our TRIO Families!

The Arellano-Garibay Family

Left to Right: Jonathan, Armando Sr., Armando Jr., Ernestina, Crystal, Araceli

Armando and Ernestina have been happily married for 27 years. They live in Patterson, California with their four children. Armando

Jr. graduated from CSU Stanislaus with his Bachelor’s Degree and has completed his first year of graduate school in the CSU Stanislaus Counselor Education program. He works at the Center for Human Services. Araceli graduated with her Bachelor’s degree from CSU Stanislaus. After completing her teaching credential she began teaching 3rd grade at Denair Elementary Charter Academy. Crystal just completed her freshman year at the University of California, Berkeley. She is studying in the College of Environmental Design. Jonathan graduated high school in May and will be joining us at Modesto Junior College this fall! He plans to study agriculture. All four participated in the TRIO Upward Bound program at Patterson High School. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we have received from the Arellano-Garibay family over so many years. It is

your support that drives our programs. Thank you for championing education in our community.

The Loeza Family

Left to Right: Daniel Sr., Gloria, Eric, Luis, Daniel Jr.

Daniel and Maria Loeza live with their family in Modesto and all four of their children have been participants in both the Educational Talent Search at Mark Twain Junior High School and the Upward Bound program at Modesto High School. Daniel Jr. (Danny) honorably served in the US Military and is now pursuing a continued career as an EMT. Gloria received her Bachelor’s degree in Public Health at San Jose State University. She is currently working as a Case Manager for the Healthier Kids Foundation. Luis will be entering his junior year at Modesto High and is in the International Baccalaureate program. Eric is excited to be starting his first year of high school at Modesto High and has just joined the Upward Bound program. We are so

grateful to have worked with the Loeza family and for all of their support of our program throughout the years.

Fall 2020TRIO’s Plan for the New School Year

Mark your calendars: the first day of tutoring for all programs will be Monday, September, 14th 2020!

When we first began planning our fall services, we were cautiously hopeful of once again being able to have in-person services with our students at their school sites. Now that our school districts have announced a 100% online fall semester for the 2020-21 school year, we once again adapted to the news and have also planned a completely virtual fall semester.

Much like spring of this past school year, students and families can expect virtual tutoring and advising sessions. Our program staff will continue to be available through phone, email and Remind should you need assistance. We will also be regularly updating our website with a calendar of events and resources for students to access.

We are currently working our hardest to ensure that all of our services will be as accessible as possible for our students and will have a more detailed schedule available by next month. For now, know that we continue to be here to assist you in any way possible.
