THANKSGIVING DAY
Thanksgiving is a time
For reviewing what we treasure,
The people we hold dear,
Who gives us so much pleasure.
Without you as my friend
Life would be a bore.
Having you in my life
Is what I´m thankful for.
Thanksgiving DayThanksgiving is a holiday to express gratitude and appreciation to God, family and friends for the good things in our lives.
Traditionally, it was a time to give thanks for a good harvest and for having enough food for the winter. This holiday is now usually away from its religious roots.
The First Thanksgiving
In the USA, “Thanksgiving Day” is a big national festivity that celebrates the first harvest that the Pilgrims –the first settlers- grew on American land.
They invited the local indians to the celebration, they ate turkey, and everybody was in peace and harmony.
But things changed soon after
And peace and harmony vanished
Turkey, is the main “guest”. No Thanksgiving meal starts before he
arrives!roast turkey

So turkeys are the life and soul of the party

The Cornucopia is a symbol for an abundant harvest
The May Flower is the ship that brought the Pilgrims to America.

Norman Rockwell´s Thanksgiving
This the most famous artistic representation of Thanksgiving Day, by American illustrator Norman Rockwell
.
So today, Thanksgiving means for many Americans a familiar gathering around a table to eat turkey, share and enjoy.
Though not
all American
families
are
the same…
Have things really changed so much??
And after the meal, enjoy a good American football game!
