“Thanksgiving Celebration for the Gift of a Plot of Land to Hayat-e-Nau from Royal Professional City for a Disabled Children’s Rehabilitation Resource Centre”  Hayat-e-Nau Society for Human Development jointly organized a program with Royal Professional City Housing Scheme, Hyderabad on Friday 13th May, 2011 at St. Mary’s Convent

School grounds from 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.  Master Almas Siddique – 10 yrs old (physically disabled due to muscular dystrophy) was the Chief Guest and 6 year old Master Burhan Juzar Ali (cerebral palsy) was the President of this Thanksgiving event. Over 350 people from different walks of life namely, corporate sector, civil society, religious communities and

the families of our disabled children were present.  They enjoyed and appreciated the extraordinary performances of the children from Hayat-e-Nau Rehabilitation Centre who through skits, tableaus, solo singing and beautiful dances showed everyone just how much ability and talent they have.  Mr. Alfred Jackson, a well known local singer, and Mr. Rashid a local magician also   provided us with wonderful entertainment through their professional performances which were very much appreciated by everyone.  Royal Professional City Housing Scheme is a project of Royal Builders & Developers who are well known and have a good name in Hyderabad , Sindh. Mr. John Gill (CEO – Royal Builders & Developers) handed over the document file of the gifted plot of land to Mr. Javed Sadiq.  Rt. Rev. Bishop Max J. Rodrigues (Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Hyderabad) acknowledged the noble gesture of Royal Builders & Developers in donating the gift of a plot of land to Hayat-e-Nau.  Then, having spoken appreciatively of the work of Hayat –e-Nau on behalf of children with special needs, he wished both partners every blessing.

Since its beginnings, Hayat-e-Nau Society for Human Development has been actively engaged in sensitizing members of society through creating awareness and highlighting issues of stigma & discrimination experienced at home and in our society by persons with disabilities as well as drawing attention to their basic rights according to UNCRPD, through the medium of Interactive Community Dialogue Sessions and Theatre Performances.  In this way Hayat-e-Nau works towards the integration of persons with disabilities into mainstream society by promoting understanding of disability issues; mobilizing support for the dignity and rights of the disabled; and by helping them to become as self-reliant and independent as possible.

In this regard, Hayat-e-Nau’s children have performed a drama “Umeed-e-Sehar” on the Theme – Stigma and Discrimination. Parents of

the disabled children, volunteers and members of civil society who have seen it, would invariably be moved to tears as they watched the drama unfold. Another message it tried to get across was that disability is a social issue.

At the conclusion of the program, Mr. Javed Sadiq

(Executive Director Hayat-e-Nau) and Mr. John Gill (CEO – Royal Builders & Developers) gave a vote of thanks to the children who actively participated and who had worked so hard on their performances; to their teacher and supporting staff; to all the guests, parents of children, benefactors of Hayat-e-Nau (especially Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children) in Pakistan, Missionary Sisters of St. Columban c/o Sr. Roberta Ryan, SSC and Mr. Phil Kint & Family from The Netherlands, Sr. Catherine Gill – Principal, St. Mary’s Convent School , Mr. Bertram Desouza – Principal, St. Bonaventure’s School, well wishers and volunteers.   Then Mr. Javed Sadiq officially announced the launch of an appeal and fund raising campaign for the purpose of building Hayat-e-Nau Rehabilitation Resource Centre for Disabled Children in Hyderabad – Sindh, on the donated site.  Following the program a delicious dinner was served to everyone.
