December 1, 2019, First Sunday of Advent“Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come

/ Matthew 24: 42The prophet Isaiah greets us with a promise of universal peace. He foresees a time when all nations will learn God’s ways. They will no longer make weapons or train-ing for war. They will “walk in the light of the Lord.” When Isaiah wrote his mes-sage of hope, Judah and its capital, Jerusalem, were under the threat of attack by its enemies. Yet the prophet clung to his faith that God would come to save God’s people. / Isaiah 2:1-5 “Awake from sleep,” Paul says, and “put on the armor of light.” He means that we should practice love for our neighbors and avoid deeds of darkness (sin). He warns us that we may not have as much time as we think, because the day (when Jesus will return) draws near! / Romans 13:11-14The Gospel asks us to live in the present with an eye toward the future. We are not to be totally absorbed by the usual activities of life. We are to remain open to the com-ing of the Lord, and be prepared. Here Jesus compares himself to a thief who breaks in when no one is looking! Jesus wants us to be prepared so that we can welcome him, not as a thief, but as our long-awaited Savior! / Matthew 24: 37-44

El profeta Isaías nos da la bienvenida con una promesa de la paz universal. Prevé un tiempo en que todas las naciones conozcan los caminos de Dios. Ya no se fabricarán armas ni se entrenará para la guerra. Todos van a “caminar en la luz del Señor.” Cuando Isaías escribió este mensaje de esperanza, Judá y su capital, Jerusalén, esta-ban bajo la amenaza de un ataque de sus enemigos. Sin embargo, el profeta se aferró a su fe en que Dios vendría a salvar al pueblo de Dios. / Isaías 2:1-5San Pablo dice: “Despierten de su sueño”, “pónganse la armadura de la luz”, para decirnos que debemos practicar el amor con nuestros vecinos y evitar las obras de las tinieblas que son los pecados. Nos advierte que es posible que no tengamos tanto tiempo como pensamos, porque el día en que Jesús va a regresar se acerca! / Romanos 13:11-14El evangelio de hoy nos pide vivir en el presente con la mirada puesta en el futuro. No tenemos que ser totalmente absorbidos por las actividades habituales de la vida. Debemos permanecer abiertos a la venida del Señor, y estar preparados. Aquí Jesús se compara a sí mismo con un ladrón que irrumpe cuando nadie lo está mirando. Jesús quiere que estemos preparados para que podamos darle la bienvenida, no como un ladrón, sino como nuestro muy esperado Salvador. / Mateo 24:37-44

PRIMERO DOMINGO DE ADVIENTOSe centra en la venida gloriosa del Señor al final de los tiempospara llevar a cabo la consumación de su Reino. Encendemos, Señor, esta luz, como aquél que enciende su lámpara para salir en la noche al encuentro del amigo que ya viene. En esta Primera Semana de Adviento, queremos levantarnos para esperarte preparados, para recibirte con alegría. Muchas sombras nos envuelven, muchos halagos nos adormecen. Queremos estar despiertos y vigilantes porque Tú nos traes la luz más clara, la paz más profunda y la alegría más verdadera. ¡Ven, Señor Jesús! ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!

On this First Week of Advent, we want to rise up and wait for you all prepared to welcome you with joy. We want to be alert and watchful because you bring us the brightest light, the most profound peace and the everlasting joy. Come, Lord Jesus! Come, Lord Jesus!

ATTENTION: We have the posters with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe available. They have all the information and schedules of the Virgen de Guada-lupe, Christmas and New Year celebrations. The Ministry of Hospitality will have the posters in each of the doors today and during the week at the parish office. Although we are not charging for the posters any donation is appreciated to help us with the many expenses of the different celebrations. BLESSINGS!!!!
