SCIWORLD SPECTACULAR DAY On Thursday August 24, our students had an exciting visit
from SciWorld. The whole school enjoyed a Science
Spectacular Show in the morning, with lots of cool
chemistry and crazy fire experiments.
Throughout the day, all classes had a session inside the
Star Domes, which are portable planetariums that show
the constellations. Students got to crawl inside the 7 metre
domes and sit in darkness whilst the presenter used a
laser pointer to explain where the different stars are and
show how the sky changes during each season. We all
thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic experience!
Thoughts from Room 14 Students:
In the science dome I enjoyed looking at what each star
represented -Taylor
I loved watching all the science experiments that Tash
was doing - Ashlee
When we went into the star dome we saw thousands of
beautiful stars - Montana
There were fascinating celestial spirits - Zakaria
I enjoyed it when we got to go in the star dome and seeing
what patterns the stars can make - Tahlia
I adored going into the star dome and enjoyed learning
about what the stars represented - Lily
I liked entering the dome because it was pitch black –
Jesse
I enjoyed the star domes, the thought of me being only
able to see the light of stars that are millions of light years
away gives me a different point of view on things – Billy

HENNY PENNY CHICKENS AND STEM The reception and year 1 classes hosted the Henny Penny Chicken Incubator program for two weeks. We started with 4 chicks and 12 eggs in an incubator. By the end of the program we were caring for 15 chicks! Students were excitedly awaiting the hatching of each egg and we were lucky enough to watch 4 eggs hatch. In English we focused on developing and building our vocabulary around chickens and their life cycle. In maths students created a pictograph to record the hatchings. We also made a research journal to record their movements and growth. In Art we sketched the chicks and created miniature sculptures. For STEM week, classes made coops or feeders. Students explored feelings and developed empathy for living creatures. What exciting hands on learning!
Jovie said, "They hatched out their eggs and they were learning to fly." Sophie said, "The chicks were so cute." Jackson said, "They didn't fly when they were little but as they got bigger they could fly to our shoulders." Dafina said, "They were so soft but I didn't like cleaning up their poop." Shaylee said, "They were so cute but I was sad when they went." Ishaan said, "Some had white wings."
At the end of the two weeks all chicks found homes on
farms. 😊
Thank you to all the families who came to support this program in the mornings and afternoons and during STEM Open Morning.

YEAR 4/5 RUGBY LEAGUE For the past 5 years our school has been involved in this
carnival. Students have been taught the correct technique
to tackle and instructed on the rules of Rugby League. We
fielded 2 mixed teams again this year as the popularity is
still strong. Although this carnival is more about
participation than score, our students were well aware of
how they went. Para Hills 1 went through undefeated,
while Para Hills A finished 3rd
.
It was also great to see so many parents out supporting
our school as the players always love playing in front of a
crowd.
Teams:
Para Hills 1- Aiden (8), Sam (8), Cooper (8), Ollie (8),
Jacob (8), Brayden (8), Britney (8), Cooper (6), Alec (6),
Conor (6), Connor (6), Isabella (6).
Para Hills A -Toby (5), Lucas (6), Mikayla (6), Karar (6),

ROOMS 9 & 12 ZOO EXCURSION On Thursday Room 9 and Room 12 went to the zoo. We went into the nursery and saw the deer and goats. One of the
goats ate Jaime’s map. The deers were really soft and one of the goats was sitting on a bench. We got to pat the deer
and goats. When we went out of the nursery we saw the alpacas. The deer were eating hay and the alpacas were
eating berries from a bush. After that we saw the guinea pigs and they were really cute. One of the guinea pigs had red
eyes. Some were hiding in the little hut and some were just sitting there. Next we saw the penguins, they were
waddling around and some were just standing there. It was a great time there. Then we had recess. After we had
recess we saw the pandas and it was Wang Wang’s birthday. We got to see him open his presents. He got sawdust
and a star ball. A lady spoke about the pandas. After we saw the pandas we went into the bird cage. There were lots of
different types of birds. They were eating corn, broccoli and carrot. After that we had lunch and then we went to see the
pelican. Also we got to see the macaw and he was blue and yellow with an orange beak. He was flying around and he
was eating nuts and fruit. It was a great time at that place. Belle Yr 1
At the zoo I saw baby meerkats and they were so cute. Then we saw birds and they were all different colours. I
sat on a bench, I had a map, I gave the map to Myles. Then we saw a giraffe, it had a long tongue. When we went
into the Education Centre we felt the fur of animals that had died a long time ago. It was so much fun. On the
way back on the bus I sat at the back. Caitlyn Reception
On Thursday Room 9 went to the Zoo. We saw the giraffes. The giraffes were being fed. The giraffes were very
hungry. They were walking around. We went to the meerkats. The meerkats were so cute I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Then we went to see the flamingo. It was pink because it eats peaches. I had lots of fun at the zoo. Zahra B
