Welcome to the 24th International Conference on Plastic Optical Fibers in Franconia

Experts from all over the world will meet each other to the 24th time in Nuremberg/Franconia to see and discuss novelties in Polymer Optical Fibers ant their applications. 19 Cities had been hosts of the conference so far, but only 4 of them more than once: Yokohama, Boston, Paris and now Nuremberg (see table 1).

This is a big honor for us, because the Franconian city is the smallest town in this exclusive group. Nevertheless, we hope you will enjoy your stay here in September 2015.

At the moment, the program includes 86 submissions from 14 countries. Counted over the full time, the number of active counties at international POF conferences is 37 (Fig. 1). Among them, Japan and Germany are the most active members. The cumulative number of papers will reach 1717 at this conference.

In Nuremberg we will have:

• 3 plenary talks

• 8 invited talks

• 47 regular talks

• 29 poster presentations

• up to three post deadline papers

• additional 14 talks on the POF Modeling workshop on September 21st As the proud host, German institutes and companies will present 36 of the papers (see Fig. 2).

What will be new on the POF’2015? New processes for fiber fabrication will be shown by the ITA Aachen, BAM Berlin and Intellisiv Israel as examples. The main focus is no more the optimization of bandwidth and/or loss, but the economics of production and the expansion of application fields. The development of gigabit solutions dominated several of the last events. Now KDPOF offers the first commercial chipsets. Avago, Homefibre, TU Eindhoven, Utsunomiya University and Cox Communications will talk about gigabit home networks. Other presentations will cover 10 Gbit/s applications and car networks.

But the largest topic of the Nuremberg POF conference will be the one on POF sensors. Several authors will give 23 presentations out of the area “Sensors and Measurement”, the papers on the Monday workshop not included. Visitors will have the possibility to watch interesting solutions on the parallel exhibition as well as on the POF late night in the premises of the Polymer Optical Fiber Application Center.

Attendee Instructions Attendees can pick up their conference badges, program brochure and other materials at the registration desk on Tuesday, September 22 from 8:00 a.m. Please be prepared to show photo ID (passport or driver's license).

Regular oral presenters will be allocated 15 minutes for the presentation and 5 minutes for discussion. Please bring the presentations in PPT or PDF format to the conference staff in advance. Presenters are not permitted to use their own laptops.

The Poster Session is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22. Authors presenting posters must provide a printed poster at the beginning of the conference at the registration desk. The maximum and preferred poster size is 100 cm x 70 cm (portrait format). Poster must include the paper title, list of authors, author affiliations.
