Handbook & Participation Guide

Our Vision: Together with families and communities, we will provide a Christ-centered, comprehensive basketball organization designed to equip, empower, and disciple the next generation of Christian leaders Our Mission: Prepare student-athletes to battle 94 Feet & Beyond: In the classroom; On the Court; In their personal life – Ephesians 6:13-17 About us:

The Texas Elite Warriors is a 501-C3 non for profit, competitive, Christian-based, AAU affiliate organization that recognizes

that basketball is only one facet of a young person’s life. We strive to foster an environment where our student athletes can:

• Achieve on the court and in the classroom

• Mature spiritually, physically, socially, emotionally and mentally – Luke 2:52

• Learn life lessons through basketball

• Produce future Christian leaders for our schools and community Our Goals:

• To become a premiere AAU organization for Youth Basketball in Houston, Cypress, Katy, and surrounding area.

• To develop each player's character by teaching the value of teamwork and sportsmanship through the game of basketball.

• To provide players with knowledge of the game by obtaining an excellent coaching staff who use instruction and techniques

that are designed to improve skills and enable players to compete at a high level.

• To foster an atmosphere where working hard towards a common goal and achieving your potential are

intertwined.

• To prepare players both athletically and academically so they are ready to advance to the next level of play or stage of

life.

• To assist highly skilled players in obtaining college scholarships or financial aid. Our Philosophy:

We honor God and the game of basketball by battling “94 Feet and Beyond” in the classroom, on the court, and in our

personal life. We do this based on biblical principles in Ephesians 6:13-17 that instructs us to “put on the whole amour

of God…Helmet of Salvation; Breastplate of Righteousness; Shield of Faith; Belt of Truth; Sword of the Spirit; Feet shod

with the Gospel of Peace”

We are a recognized, Level 3 non-profit AAU Club and subscribe to the tenants of the AAU philosophy below: AAU Mission Statement

INTRODUCING Texas Elite Warriors Basketball Club

About The Program We are Level 3 AAU, competitive basketball program that focuses on advanced skills, learning life skills, sportsmanship, hard work and the love of the game. The instruction regimen includes practice sessions and scrimmage games. From time to time we bring in local high school coaches and assistants with the aim of teaching the advanced fundamentals of the game. Our Team Is a Community The team is built around a “community” concept, where parents are asked to be active participants in team activities, game day operations such as clock, book, etc. For example, we do our best to setup car pool schedules that help you share the burden of transporting your child to-and-from games and practices. We will also have fundraisers and soon will host a series of fundraising tournaments – for which parents are asked to volunteer. Participation of parents is one of our top priorities and highly considered for team membership. Financial and Participatory Commitment Parents are responsible for covering the cost of their child’s participation in the program through Player Registration fees, working our fundraising tournaments and/or acquiring sponsors to cover their costs. Each player has an “Account” which player registration fees and fund-raised dollars are applied. These funds provide for: AAU Annual Club Registration Fees AAU Team liability insurance ($1 million liability) Team Uniforms 8-10 Tournament / League Entry fees Coaches Stipends/Other team related expenses Practice Facility Rental You and your child can meet your financial commitment in a variety of ways:

Player Registration Fees/Installment Plan Player Registration fees for each team run the program each year. The club player registration fees/installments are credited towards your Spring/AAU financial commitment. Players who are not current with player registration fees/installment will not be allowed to participate in practices and games, and may forfeit their spot on the team roster. Sponsorship moneys can be applied towards dues. Note: Player Registration fees cover local tournaments ONLY! Not included in Player Registration fees is traveling to and from games, food, (although there are times food will be provided via program/snack schedule volunteers), or out of town tournaments room/board. ** If one of our teams qualify for Nationals or we enter out of town tournaments, it will be an organizational and parent decision to attend because this will require more financial commitment that will need to be split up evenly amongst team. Fundraising opportunities will be offered to earn necessary funds for Nationals/out of town tourneys as well as sponsorships if available.

Tournaments/Volunteer Coach/Volunteer Staff Our club will seek to host local tournaments during the season, typically in the spring and summer. This is a major fundraiser for us. All player parents are highly encouraged to participate 4 to 6 hours per tournament in helping plan, coordinate, run, and clean up equally with other parents. Parents who assist can help offset participation cost for their player. All monies earned through Tournaments will help offset cost associated with Team club fees we have as well. In addition, any approved assistant volunteer coach will receive a discounted player registration cost and all approved Head Coaches will receive a coaches’ stipend or discounted player registration cost. Fundraising & Sponsorship Texas Elite Warriors Basketball Club is an AAU-affiliated organization for boys/girls that will be seeking to raise funds in order to help

offset cost for equipment and many other cost associated with running our program. A portion of sponsorship and or fundraising money

will be directly credited towards your financial commitment. Every year we do 1 mandatory team fundraiser and 1 optional fundraiser. Donations Donations of gymnasium time will be credited to your player’s account at the current market rate (hourly). If you are able to secure a church or organization gymnasium, please let us know. Practices The teams conduct typically two 90min/week in order to teach and keep players in basketball shape/competitive. The number of practices varies by team and age group, as well as by the time of year. Players must attend practices to earn playing time. Missing practice equates to losing playing time. The coaches provide guidance to help the kids learn valuable drills that they need to PRACTICE AT HOME in their spare time. The kids are taught how to play as a team, win as a team, and lose as a team. Competition The teams will participate in scrimmages, tournaments, leagues and other events in order to provide a forum in which kids can apply the skills they've learned and participate in a competitive environment. Our goal is to be competitive, set goals, and improve each game. The team management will work hard to find compatible/competitive teams with which we can scrimmage and play games.

How the Teams Are Structured We attempt to field teams of minimum 8-11 players maximum. Teams with 16 or more players will be split into two teams; a competitive squad and a developmental squad. Players can moved to either team by coaches at any point if they feel it is in best interest of the players and approved by the parent. The coaches determine squad assignments.

I understand that, as a parent, I am to uphold the highest standards and set an example of sportsmanship for my child and our program. I understand that my child will be asked to work hard to improve their individual and team skills, and strive for excellence. I understand that my child must maintain a minimum 2.5 grade point average to play for the Warriors. I understand that my child must attend practices in order to earn playing time. I understand that I support my youth athlete by budgeting the time, money and resources necessary to keep him focused on achieving success, which includes getting him to practice and games on time, appropriately dressed, fed and hydrated. I understand that there is no guarantee that any player will be accepted to the team. I understand that my athlete maybe placed on the Competitive or Developmental squad, based on evaluation and team needs, as determined by the coaching staff. I further understand that there is no minimum play requirement for AAU basketball teams such as ours, but that the coaching staff is dedicated to providing playing time to all players on the roster, as equally as possible, based on the competitive environment.

Club player registration fees shall be $1216.00 (New players) / $1036 (Returning players) per player for the

"What you are as a person is far more important than what you are as a basketball player" - John Wooden

Texas Elite Warriors- Codes of Conduct In order to ensure that the principles of sportsmanship, fair play, skill development, and mutual respect among players, coaches, officials and spectators are the primary considerations governing competition, the following Code of Conduct has been established and adopted.

Coaches Code of Conduct Each coach will ensure that his/her coaching conduct and communications with referees, spectators and game officials is reflective of the ideals established herein. To satisfactorily meet these responsibilities, the coach is expected to:

• Always strive to lead by example and model a Christian lifestyle our athletes can follow on/off the court

• “Pray it in, Pray it out” before team devotionals, games, practices, etc. • Always keep “Athletes first, winning second” philosophy of coaching in this program

• No cursing/swearing at any athletes, parents, staff, etc. • Know the AAU/basketball rules, stay abreast, and abide by them. • Instruct team members in the rules and coach his/her team in such a way as to motivate

each player to compete according to the rules at all times. • Respect the game officials and refrain from questioning their decisions in a disrespectful or

abusive manner. • Ensure that the players and spectators follow all gym rules and regulations. • Ensure that fans of his/her team conduct themselves with sportsmanship and maturity at all

times while in attendance at game sites. • Assist the game officials in maintaining control of spectators during the games. • Respect the coaches and players of the opposing team both during the play of the game and at

its conclusion, win or lose. • Teach each player, especially through personal example, to be humble and generous in victory

and proud in defeat. • Maintain control of his/her emotions and avoid actions, language, and/or gestures that may

be interpreted as hostile and humiliating. • Instruct team support personnel (e.g., assistant coaches, scorekeepers, and timekeepers) in

their responsibilities in accordance with established rules and procedures. • Realize, accept, and practice the principal that a team’s reputation is built not only on its playing

ability, but also on its sportsmanship, courtesy, and manner.

Consequences Coaches that violate the Code of Conduct policy can be subject to reprimand, suspension and/or revocation of coaching privileges at the direction of the board of directors. Consequences shall be managed using the Conduct Review Procedure outlined at the end of this document.

Parents Code of Conduct

The essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and our seven core principles: Wisdom; Attitude; Respect; Responsibility; Integrity; Obedient; Relentless. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these Pillars of Character. I therefore agree that:

• I am responsible for requiring my child to adhere to this code of conduct during and after Texas Elite

Warriors activities. • I will hold my child accountable for adhering to the Player Code of Conduct • I will not force my child to participate in sports. • I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for the kids. • I will inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the

safety of others, including learning/behavior issue that may affect their participation in Travel basketball. • I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league. • I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect

and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event.

• I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.

• I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and wellbeing of the athletes, coaches or other parents.

• I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without hostility or violence. • I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless

of race, creed, color, sex or ability. • I will teach my child that doing one's best is more important than winning, so that my child will never

feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance. • I will praise my child for competing fairly and trying hard. • I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition. • I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child over winning – and

encourage my child to develop his skills on his own personal time. • I will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may

have form child to win. • I will respect the officials and coaches - and their authority during games - and will never question, discuss,

or confront coaches at the game, and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place where kids in the program will not be subject to the discussion.

• I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, steroids, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sports events.

• I will refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.

Consequences Parents that violate the Code of Conduct policy can be subject to reprimand, player suspension and/or expulsion of player from the Texas Elite Warriors program (in extreme situations) as deemed appropriate by the coaches and/or board of directors. Consequences shall be managed using the Conduct Review Procedure outlined at the end of this document.

coaches’ standards of respect. This respect will be granted at all times – on the court, off the court, at school, and in all places in your everyday life.

• I will respect my team practice time and never be a distraction for team mates, coaches or parents.

PRIVATE GYM RULES

Texas Elite Warriors Membership Application program utilizes a private gymnasium to conduct many of our

practice sessions. We have specific rules and guidelines that we expect our parents and players to follow when

practicing at this gym, as follows:

1. Only player’s immediate family members such as siblings and coaches are allowed in the gym. No friends,

cousins, etc.

2. Parents and coaches must park their cars on the DESIGNATED AREA by the Gym. DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR ON THE

GRASS.

3. Players and coaches should NOT wear their court shoes into the gym (from the parking lot). Please have

them wear street shoes into the gym, and CHANGE into their court shoes ON THE CARPETED ENTRYAREA

to avoid bringing in rocks and dirt that will scratch the floor. If a player wears court shoes into the gym,

coaches should make that player remove the shoes and pick out any dirt or gravel.

4. The floor should be SWEPT before each practice to remove DUST that will scratch the finish. Typically we have

the players line up on the baselines and take turns running the dust mop across the floor. For each time “up

and back” we use the shop vacuum to suck out all the dirt and dust from the mop before continuing.

5. All Water Bottles and Trash should be picked up off the floors after each practice, and deposited into the

Recycling and/or Garbage cans – even if YOUR TEAM did not make the mess. We do this as a courtesy.

6. When the garbage can is full, it should be emptied. There is a dumpster just NORTH of the gym over by the water

fountain.

7. All balls should be returned to the ball bags after each practice. 8. The Outside LIGHT should be turned on 30 minutes before the end of practice when it is dark outside, so that

parents can get into the parking lot with ease. Inside lights should be turned OFF at the conclusion of practice.

9. Teams should periodically sweep/vacuum the concrete floors to keep the facility clean and limit the amount of dust

and dirt that gets onto the floor. There is a shop vacuum available in the gym.

PLEASENOTE: These rules are put in place to BUILD GOOD HABITS in our players. In the future, if the hosting Gym floor is re-finished, we

want all players to already be in the habit of making sure the floor remains in good condition for as long as possible. In short, players should treat the floor as if it is their own!
