PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Thank you to those who attended the District

Governor’s visit on Tuesday 16th

. I hope you all

enjoyed yourselves and it was good to have a joint

meeting with Noosa Heads, a club that we

sponsored.

We had Paul as Chairman for the night and he did

a great job. I am thinking of, for a change, appointing a chair person from time

to time at our dinner meetings. If anyone is keen to give it a go let me know. You

would sit at the head table and have guidance from Sheila and myself.

We have had a busy start to the year with the Good Shepherd Lutheran College

Fete, a chip van clean {with morning tea provided by Gary} and a Bunning

Sizzle.

I thank all those members who volunteer for these events especially the newer

members of the club.

Our first social night will be at Zacharys on Gympie Terrace on 31/8 eating all

the pizza you can eat for $17.

26th

of August will see us at the Eumundi School Fete, 14th

of September at the

Tewantin State School Fete and on the 18th

September we will be giving

Sunshine Butterflies a hand with a breakfast before a fund-raising bike ride.

The breakfasts at the Tewantin State School and Noosaville State School are still

proceeding and any assistance from members would be appreciated. Remember

to bring along to our dinner meetings donations to the school chaplains pantry

such as 1 minute noodles and anything else non perishable.

Due to our large membership we always seem to have someone away. As I write

this Ian and Sheila are cruising the Kimberleys, Peter and Dagmar have gone to

Europe, Paul is off to Cairns and a little birdie tells me that Bill and Louise are

of in a few weeks in their van. Jan is off to the States. Alison and I will be going

North West Queensland via Townsville for most of September and part of

October.

As one lot goes others return...welcome back Geoff and Carolanne and

Rosemary.

A very warm welcome to Jan, John and Craig following their induction by the

District Governor on Tuesday night.

It is very sad to see Lesley, Greg, Amy and Ezekiel leave the club due to work

commitments and they would be very welcome back if the circumstances allow.

Page 3: Tewantin Noosa Lions Club Inc. The Pelican Brief September ... · Dear Lion, As we approach our Centennial in 2017, we have so much to celebrate. This once-in-a-lifetime event commemorates

On another note Gus and Helen are in the process of moving to Morayfield. The

best of wishes go from the club. Gus has been an integral part of the club and his

work as Secretary’s position was much appreciated. Hopefully we will see them

at a dinner meeting before they depart. Gus will remain a member of our club

until he settles on a Club where he is going to.

Happy birthday to Gus, David K. Kath Mckay. Michael Roach and Phil for

September.

Our District Convention is to be held at Pacific Paradise State School on

October 28th

, 29th

and 30th

. If you haven’t been to a convention now is your

chance with it being so close. There will be registration forms sent out to

members later in the week.

Keep up the good work and thank you for your support.

David Watt

Lions International President

Dear Lion,

As we approach our Centennial in 2017, we have so much to celebrate. This

once-in-a-lifetime event commemorates not just our association, but every

Lion and club who has made a difference in the world. No matter where you

are, there’s an opportunity for each and every Lion to join the celebration.

I encourage you to join the Celebration by supporting our three

signature programs:

Lead through service by hosting youth, vision, hunger and environmental projects to help

us reach our Centennial Service Challenge goal of helping 100+ million people. Set a

goal of hosting at least 1 service project for each.

Invite for impact by asking family, friends and neighbors to serve with you as Lions, and

you’ll earn recognition in the Centennial Celebration Membership Awards. Set a goal

of adding 3 new members.

Connect with community by planning a Legacy Project that commemorates the

Centennial and provides a lasting gift to your community.

Let’s work together to show the world that where there’s a need, there’s a

Lion!

Very truly yours,

Chancellor Bob Corlew

Why join Lions? Continued from July Pelican Brief.

11 * Entertainment. Lions Clubs organise many different activities that provide entertainment as well as education.

12 * The development of social skills. Lions is for people who like people. Through projects, events and meetings, Lions helps to develop social and peoples skills.

13 * Where ever there is a need, you’ll find Lions there, actively involved in getting the job done. Always ready to roll up the sleeves and find a solution. No job is to big or to small.

14 * Family Programmes. Lions has a range of programmes for our youth—Leo clubs, Youth exchange and hosting, the Youth of the Year Quest, the Lions-Quest skills programmes that involve the family.

15 * The Development of ethics. All Lions Clubs embrace the same set of ethics. Lions are expected to be ethical in business and personal relationships.

16 *Cultural awareness. Around the world, practically every religion, country, culture, race, creed, political persuasion, language, colour and ethnic identity is found in Lions. It is a cross section of citizens from every back ground. Lions become aware of other cultures and learn to love and work with people everywhere. It is truely an International organisation.

17 * A wide range of programmes providing help for disadvantaged both locally and Internationally- Sight First – a worldwide programme to eradicate preventable blindness, Hearing dogs for the deaf, provision of mobility aids for children, to name but a few.

18 * Nice people. Lions above all are nice people, who genuinely want to give their time, labour and means to assist others, and have a lot of fun while they are doing it.

19 * Lions has no secrete handshake, no secret policy, no official creed, no secret meetings or rituals. It is open society – of men and women who simply believe in helping others.

20 * The opportunity to serve. Lions is a service club. This is the best reason for becoming a Lion: The chance to do as a group we cannot hope to achieve

Page 11: Tewantin Noosa Lions Club Inc. The Pelican Brief September ... · Dear Lion, As we approach our Centennial in 2017, we have so much to celebrate. This once-in-a-lifetime event commemorates

on our own, to serve our fellow man, and to make the world a better place. Our motto is simple, but it says it all. “ We Serve”.

Report from Membership Chair Di Cooke

Hi Everyone

In my new role as membership officer I hope that I can be of

assistance to anyone wishing to join and steer them in the

right direction.

Last month saw 3 new members inducted by our new DG they

were Jan Olssen,Craig Morrison and John Pritchard.

We welcome them and look forward to a great relationship in

Lions as well as social.

I am in the process of looking into our Club shirts being

sourced cheaper and also for anyone who wishes to have a

dressier shirt I have found some suitable.

I will be bringing a shirt to our next meeting.

We have had 4 members resign this month due to work

commitments we wish them well and hope that if they ever

want to be a Lion again they come back to us.

Remember Ask One is our motto .

Thanks Everyone
