PH.D. THESIS

“The Effect of Liver Fluke Fasciola hepatica on the Performance of Welsh Mountain Sheep.” Advised by A. G. Chamberlain and G. Ll. William

Research was conducted on two experiments to assess the effect of chronic fascioliasis on Welsh Mountain sheep ewes. At first, the effect on ewe live-weight and body composition, blood characteristics, wool production and it’s physical characteristics, lambing performance, milk composition and the growth of Lamb were examined during a continuous infection over 19 months. Later, the effect of infection which was allowed to proceed for 11 months when terminated some 4 months before lambing was assessed and results contrasted with the first experiment.

Graduate Courses

Animal Management and Health. Rearing, care, hygiene, feeding and housing farm animals

including: horses, cattle, sheep, goat, camel, buffalo, and briefs on wild animals. This course is

full academic year, theoretical (2h/week) and practical (2h/week) in the field for 150-200

students yearly, Veterinary College, Baghdad, 1994-2014.

Animal Nutrition, Feed components (water, protein, carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals, energy

and enzymes), feed requirements, feeding methodologies. This course is full academic year,

theoretical (2h/week) and practical (2h/week) in nutrition laboratory for 40-50 students yearly,

Veterinary College, Sulaimani, 2004-2008.

Principles of Animal Production. Farm animal classification and their rearing, principles of

feeding and housing including: cattle, sheep, goat, buffalo, camel and poultry. Fall and spring

courses, theoretical (2h/week) and practical (2h/week) in the field for 40-50 students each

Sheep and Goat Production. Sheep and goat classification, rearing, growth, reproduction,

Statistics and Experimental Design and Analysis, Statistics Methodology, experiment design in
