1.0 Introduction

In Wikipedia.com, a tessellation or tiling of the plane is a collection

of plane figures that fills the plane with no overlaps and no gaps. One may also

speak of tessellations of parts of the plane or of other surfaces. Generalizations

to higher dimensions are also possible. Tessellations frequently appeared in

the art of M. C. Escher.

Tessellations are seen throughout art history, from ancient architecture

to modern art. A tessellation is created when a shape is repeated over and over

again. All the figures fit onto a flat surface exactly together without any gaps or

overlaps. A dictionary tell you that the word "tessellate" means to form or arrange

small squares in a checkered or mosaic pattern. The word "tessellate" is derived

from the Ionic version of the Greek word "tesseres," which in English means

"four." The first tilings were made from square tiles. A regular polygon has 3 or 4

or 5 or more sides and angles, all equal. A regular tessellation means a

tessellation made up of congruent regular polygons. [Remember: Regularmeans

that the sides and angles of the polygon are all equivalent (i.e., the polygon is

both equiangular and equilateral). Congruentmeans that the polygons that you

put together are all the same size and shape.]

Only three regular polygons tessellate in the Euclidean plane: triangles,

squares or hexagons.

2.0 Create and draw 2-D tessellation.

First step: From what I had learned in the class, just some of the shapes that can

be use to make a tessellation. So, I had chosen a square to start a design to

making a tessellation. The size of the square is 6cm x 6cm. For me, using square

is easier than using other shape.

Second step: From the square, I had alter the right side of the square to make it

transform to other shape that I want.

Third step: then, I draw another shape at the left side of the shape. I make the

same design that I alter from the right side to add the left side bigger.

Forth step: After the new shape already finish, I make two lines as a point to

make a tessellation. That is x-line and y-line.

Fifth step: Now, I can start to make my tessellation. First of all, I want to translate

my shape on the y-line that I had created. I translate it on the right and the left

side of the basic shape.

Sixth step: Then, I reflect all the shape at the x-line.

Seventh step: The process was going on until the shape full into a paper.

Eighth step: After all the shape is full, I make a design in my tessellation to make

it more beautiful. I choose to make a ghost like tessellation.

Ninth step: Then, I choose blue and peach colour to fill the tessellation. The

reason why I choose blue is I want to make the ghost look scary. Then, the

peach colour show the contra of blue colour.

3.0 Reflection

This task is about tessellation. At first, I do not know how to do this

assignment. But when I got explanation from my lecturer, I get the image to do

this assignment. This assignment was really easy to understand. For me who

was a social sciences student, I think mathematics really hard. When Madam

Junita teach and show the simple step to solve problems in mathematics, I think

mathematics was an easy subject. What so cool about this assignment is I got to

create a design of a tessellation.

I am searching a lot of information about tessellation in the internet. For

me, eventhough there is a lot of information from the internet but I still do not

understand what I am going to do with this assignment. After I got an explanation

from my lecturer and also a few from my friends, then I really know what I am

going to do for this assignment.

What I got when I am doing this assignment is not easy to make

everybody understand what we are teaching. Eventhough we think we have

show the better step but we need to explain until our audience get what we need

them to know. While I am doing this assignment, it makes me to realize that

being a teacher is not easy unless we know how to be them. To design the

tessellation was also really hard. I got an idea to design my tessellation when I

look at a website in the internet.

In my opinion, this assignment really helps the students to show the

method of teaching to others. Here, students had to think wisely about the

method and the suitable information for ours assignment.

While doing this assignment, there were other assignments that must be

finish and submit at the same time. But I manage to finish all of them because of

my efficient timetable. When the lecturer gave the task, I quickly found the

information from the internet and some reference books from the library that

related to this task.

Lastly, the assignment like this will improve a lot of skill to student. As the

conclusion, thank you very much for those who were involved in this project task.
