FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Sad News Last week, our school received the news that a past student, Nicholas Barker (12 Years old) had passed away suddenly. Nicholas graduated from Toowoomba East in 2017 and commenced high school at Toowoomba Grammar School. The Barker family have had a long associa(on with our school. Nicholas’ father, Ma+ is a former P and C President. Our thoughts and condolences are with the Barker family at this difficult (me. Parking behind Café Parents are respec0ully requested not to park behind the Sage and Butler Café or Everest Spice when dropping off and picking up children from school. The café has received a number of complaints from customers wishing to access these parks. We aim to be considerate and coopera(ve neighbours and value the ongoing support of local businesses. Road Safety At recent school assemblies, I have addressed with students the correct place and manner to cross the road outside of school. Last week, I had a report of a near-miss as a student and parent crossed the road in an unmarked area. While I can appreciate that people are busy and o8en in a hurry, I ask that students and parents use the controlled crossings at all (mes. Disco The P and C Associa(on will be holding a Disco on Friday 22 February in the school hall. The evening commences at 5:30pm and concludes at 8:30pm. The early part of the evening (un(l 7:00pm) will be tailored to younger students, although all ages are welcome.

Guest Speaker Visits Year 4
On Friday the 1st February the Year Four students were fortunate to have a visit from Oliver’s
Uncle who is a Roule+e flyer with the Air Force based in Victoria. The Roule+e informa(on
session was lots of fun! We got to see a video of what the forma(ons do and the exci(ng stunts
they could perform as a team. It was interes(ng because we met a real life pilot and how he
worked hard to be where he is today. It was fascina(ng as we got to learn new things and
elements of safety and training when in control of the plane. He told us how long he flies for
which actually is most days! He handed out some posters and s(ckers which we really enjoyed.
Owen got a real surprise when he discovered that his year seven teacher from his small outback
school was Mrs Simmons!
Thank you Owen for your (me.

Recycling Just a reminder that TESS is a collec(on point for the Containers For Change Refund Scheme. For every bo+le/container that you donate to the school, the P&C receive ten cents. We are collec(ng between 500 and 700 containers a week so it is worth bringing along your containers from home to contribute to our count. You can dispose of them in any of the blue lidded bins located around the school be-tween school hours. Here is a picture to remind you of what is included and excluded from the scheme.
