6This exhibit will focus on Pablo Picasso’s cardboard andsheet-metal Guitar sculptures, and the incandescent period ofmaterial and structural innovation these sculptures bracket inthe artist’s long careerThe exhibition takes as its point of departure Picasso’s firstGuitar construction, a sculpture made between October andDecember 1912. Cobbled together from cardboard, paper,string, and wire—materials he cut, folded, threaded, andglued—Picasso’s silent instrument resembled no sculpturethat had ever been seen before. Its creation coincided withPicasso’s embrace of a wide range of what were then uncon-ventional materials, including cardboard,newspaper, wallpa-per, sheet music, and sand. In 1914 the artist reiterated hisfragile, papery Guitar construction in more fixed and durablesheet-metal form. In the early 1970s Picasso donated bothworks to The Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition will be on view in The Museum of ModernArt’s Special Exhibitions gallery from February 13 throughJune 6, 2011. Visit moma.org

La serie FOCOS de EL MUSEO DEL BARRIO presenta a Luis CamnitzerLuis Camnitzer was born in Germany in 1937, grew up in Montevideo, Uruguay andhas lived and worked in New York since 1964. He received Guggenheim Fellowshipsin 1961 and 1982 and, has made his mark internationally not only as an artist but asa critic, educator and art theorist. Formally allied with the American Conceptualists ofthe 1960s and 1970s, over the past 50 years Camnitzer has developed an essentiallyautonomous oeuvre. Through his art Camnitzer often plays with the role of audienceas silent witness and accomplice, within the arts as well as politics, often drawing onhis youth in Montevideo under a repressive government that the international commu-nity allowed to persist. Después de décadas deopresión nuestros hermanos del mundo árabe están desper-tando y tomando cargo de su destino. Es la continuación dela caida del muro de Berlín como lo han catalogado algunos.Y se conecta con los ideales de la sociedad occidental y loque nos dió la Revolución Francesa. En este sentido nuestrassociedades están más cercanas de lo que suponíamos.Muchos temen un radicalismo religioso, y a lo mejor, comoen Irán, un grupo se apodera de estos movimientos y losdestruye. Pero su motivsción es demócratica y debemoshacer todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance para que así sequede. Somos sin duda una comunidad global.ENHORABUENA!Nueva York, nuestra ciudad global nos ofrece un calendariolleno de diversidad: arte, musica, teatro y cine.
