President’s Message

Corporate Identification Standards Manual

Over the years, TESCO has enjoyed substantial growth and diversity. !e increasing importance of our organization in the marketplace is the direct result of the innovation and quality of the products and services marketed by our company. TESCO is best described as a technology driven, international com-pany serving the needs of the oil and gas industry. Under the TESCO umbrella are a number of products and services required by the energy sector in various countries around the world. Each operation must communicate information about its products or services to special segments of the market and also must identify itself as TESCO.

As TESCO continues to grow, we want more people to recognize us and to understand the full scope of the products and services we market. We also want those who deal with TESCO to anticipate equal service or product quality from any of our other entities. TESCO will benefit from the cumulative effect of these relationships only if there is a recognizable visual continuity in everything we do. A clear, con-sistent method of identification for all operations helps avoid consumer confusion and promotes better understanding among all audiences. It also maximizes TESCO’s marketing efforts because all commu-nications will be mutually re-enforcing through the consistent use of the TESCO name and trademark.

PURPOSE AND USE OF MANUAL

!is manual outlines the method we wish to implement to achieve a consistent identity for TESCO, its operating subsidiaries, services and products. By following the rules in the manual for the use and application of corporate and subsidiary signatures, product names, typography and colour in all com-munications, a consistent corporate image will be achieved. Formalizing the identification program in manual form will help to ensure consistent and correct usage of the identification system throughout the TESCO group of companies.

All employees are responsible for observing the rules and guidelines set forth. !e manual cannot cover every design situation specifically. Trademarks & use

!e function of a trade-mark is to indicate the source or origin of a trader’s products or services. Primarily a trade-mark distinguishes the products or services of one trader from those of another. No trade-mark rights arise on creation of the trade-mark. Rather, it is the use of the trade-mark which gives rise to enforceable rights. Trade-marks may be registered, and eligible for protection pursuant to the Trade-marks Act, or unregistered and reliant upon a level of protection under the common law passing off action.

!erefore, it is important to use our claimed trade-marks and to use them properly. !e phrase “use it or lose it” is particularly applicable here. For clarification, the chart below sets out the various registered and unregistered trade-marks claimed by TESCO Corporation in the three main jurisdictions namely, Canada, the United States and the European Community.

Trademarks & use

Reconciliation of International Applications

Given that there is come incongruity with respect to the status of our claimed trade-marks in different jurisdictions, a distinction must be made as between how TESCO uses its claimed trade-marks itself, and how it may enforce its trade-mark rights by jurisdiction as against others.

As TESCO’s products and sales materials are produced in Canada and used around the world, it is difficult to antici-pate which materials will be used in what jurisdictions. In fact we may assume that materials may be used anywhere in the world. For this reason, TESCO needs to be sure to use it trade-marks properly and to provide clear notice of TESCO’s trade-mark claims. !erefore whenever TESCO receives a registration on any trade-mark, that trade-mark should be identified as “registered” with the symbol ® in all TESCO applications in all jurisdictions. Further, the claimed trade-mark should be emphasized by using ALL CAPS as demonstrated above. Likewise with all claimed trade-marks that have not received a registration certificate, they should be used with ALL CAPs while always being followed by the symbol ™ in all jurisdictions. In the preparation of any marketing materials or investor presentations, the footer of the document should include that the particular trade-mark is either a registered trade-mark of TESCO, and/or the particular trade-mark is a trade-mark of TESCO.

When enforcing TESCO trade-marks, any unauthorized usage should be reported to either the Marketing or Legal department in order for an appropriate response to be prepared according to jurisdiction. For instance if an article or a competitor in Canada used the CASING DRILLING ® or TESCO ® trade-marks without either receiving our per-mission or properly acknowledging Tesco, they should be notified that they are infringing on a registered trade-mark of Tesco Corporation. While if the same infringement occurred in the United States, we should notify the offender that they are infringing on a trade-mark of Tesco Corporation as we have not obtained registration in the United States.

Any questions regarding the proper usage or the appropriate form of enforcement in relation to TESCO’s registered or claimed unregistered trade-marks should be directed toward the Company’s General Counsel for clarification.

BACKGROUND: Anadarko had over 200 bcf of natural gas reserves

stranded on the north side of the Buckinghorse River. A deep river gorge

made a conventional pipeline crossing either under the river or across

the top a significant technical and economic risk, with little chance of

success due to slope stability issues on either side of the gorge.

OBJECTIVE: Drill a conduit for a pipeline capable of transporting up

to 30 MMcf/day of gas by intersecting two horizontal wells at a depth of

1 400 metres (4,600 feet) TVD. The wells were nearly two miles apart on

opposites sides of a 300 metres (1,000 foot) deep, steeply sloping and

unstable river gorge.

PERFORMANCE: TESCO’s Casing Drive System™ was used to run

5 798 metres (18,842 feet) of 7” x 26lb L-80 casing. The casing was run

(at times simultaneously) from the two conventional drilling rigs set two

miles apart on either side of the river. One rig had a TESCO AC electric

top drive and the other was equipped with a TESCO hydraulic top drive.

Due to the technical nature of the well path and the operator requirement

to be able to rotate the casing if necessary, a proprietary casing connec-

tion (SealLock-HT) was run on the casing. The casing was circulated as

it was run into the hole, rotation was not necessary and both strings were

landed without incident three metres apart. The connection make-up

was monitored using TESCO’s proprietary TesTORK™ torque turn sys-

tem. In running over 432 joints of casing, each rig only rejected one joint

by the connection company’s inspection representative monitoring the

make-up.

UPDATE: Currently producing 9 MMcf/d of gas through the pipeline with

transport capacity up to 30 MMcf/d. Anticipate drilling 4 more exploration

wells on 60,000 net acres in the area.

BACKGROUND: The operator had completed drilling of a 2,740m

(8,990ft) well. The difficult drilling environment and challenging

wellbore had numerous dogleg and bridge sections present. Reaming

and clean-out trips were performed. Attempts were made to run casing

conventionally with a refusal occurring at 1,576m (5,201ft). The casing

was laid down and the string changed out. After 5 days the operator

called out TESCO’s Casing Running Service and a portable TESCO Top

Drive system.

OBJECTIVE: To ensure the casing reached TD safely and with minimal

risk of damage to the pipe, TESCO’s Casing Drive System™ (CDS™) and

a new accessory product -the Warthog™ Running and Reaming Tool

-were chosen to bring all of the advantages of Top Drive drilling to this

Casing Running operation. This combination of the portable Top Drive

system, the CDS™ and the Warthog™ provided assurance that the

casing could be run to the required depth on the first attempt through

the unique ability to simultaneously rotate, reciprocate and circulate the

string when required. The CDS™ replaced conventional power tongs and

elevators to make up and run the casing string while the Warthog™

provided the cutting structure to assist with aggressive reaming and

boring through multiple bridges or sloughing sections.

PERFORMANCE: TESCO’s CDS™ was used to run 2,740m (8,890ft) of

7” x 23 & 26# L-80, 8rd casing. The top drive torque was set to

6,500ft-lbs for the first 50 joints of 26# casing and then reduced to

5,400ft-lbs for the remaining 23# casing. The Warthog™ was

successful in circulating though an initial bridge at 590m (1,935ft) and

reaming through a second, more significant bridge/dogleg at 1,668m

(5,472ft). Initial reaming parameters were 4,000# WOB @ 60RPM and

6,000ft-lbs. With an increase to 9,000ft-lbs after 45 minutes of rotating

the Warthog™ reamed through and past the obstruction. The balance of

the string was washed and reamed to TD without incident. Total

reaming time was 3 hours, total circulating time was 10 ¾ hours and

total job time including rig in/out was 28 hours. With a tooth bit, drillout

of the shoe track and Warthog™ took 4 hours.

CASING TYPE: 7” 29 ppf P-110 VAM Top

BACKGROUND: Offshore Louisiana, 5,035’ of open hole, (6480’ to

11,515’) with hole inclination of 42 degrees. 7” P110 casing was run

with conventional equipment and practices and stuck at 8662’ and was

pulled.

OBJECTIVE: Utilize Tesco’s Casing Drive System™ and ream casing to

bottom and salvage the well.

PERFORMANCE: 7” 29 ppf P110 casing was washed and reamed

to bottom through tight spots without any limitations. 258 joints of

casing were run at an average rate of 4 minutes a piece. The job was

performed with no casing stabber in the derrick.

Job was accomplished in the safest manner due to the automated

handling system. Totally Incident Free - No accidents or near misses.

WELL DESIGN: “S” type: build to 22°, hold, and drop to vertical.

BACKGROUND: The wells drilled in this field are typically plagued

with lost circulation and stuck pipe incidents. This well was directionally

drilled with 8-½” hole for the 7” casing. While pulling out of the hole the

BHA became stuck several times requiring as much as 400,000 pounds

of overpull to free it.

OBJECTIVE: Utilize TESCO’s Casing Drive System™ (CDS™) to run,

circulate and ream casing to bottom if necessary.

PERFORMANCE: Despite the problems encountered in drilling the

interval, TESCO’s Casing Running Services ran the casing to bottom

without incident. Returns were lost early on, but the CDS™ allowed the

casing to be filled and circulated while running in, saving time. TESCO’s

TesTORK™ torque monitoring system was used to capture torque/turn

data for the VAM premium connections.

The casing job was completed efficiently and safely- no incidents, no

near-misses.
