    October 1991: Detailedplans to bomb a YorkRegion Hindu temple andan Indian theater inToronto were found in acar trying to cross intothe U.S. Two of theaccused were Canadian.

    From theearly 1990son, WieboLudwig accusedthe oil and gasindustry ofpoisoning hisfamily and farmthrough their attempts to extract toxicsour gas from the Peace River region ofAlberta. He was convicted of eco-terrorismfor sabotaging oil and gas wells.

    He died in April 2012.

    The Front de Liberation du Quebec:A Quebec separatist group active from

    1963-70. Responsible for more than 160violent incidents, including the MontrealStock Exchange bombing in 1969.

    Omar Khadr pleaded guilty andwas convicted of killing anAmerican medic with a handgrenade in Afghanistan in 2002,when he was 15. He spent 10years in Guantanamo Baybefore being repatriated toCanada.

    On June 2, 2006, 18 peoplefound to be al-Qaida membersof an Islamic terrorist cell (theToronto 18) were arrested incounter-terrorism raids in andaround Toronto.

    They were accused of planningto detonate truck bombs, toopen fire in a crowded area andto storm the CBC, the Parlia-ment building, the CanadianSecurity Intelligence Service(CSIS) headquarters and theparliamentary Peace Tower totake hostages and to beheadthe prime minister and otherleaders. Charges weredropped against seven.Eleven were convicted.

    XristosKatsiroubas, 22,and Ali Medlej,24 both fromLondon, Ont. were involved in

    an terroristattack on anAlgerian gas plantin January. Threedozen armedIslamists led byal-Qaida-linked

    Mokhtar Belmokhtarseized the Amenasplant and heldhundreds of workers

    hostage for four days.

    Thirty-eight hostages and 29 militantsdied. Both Katsiroubas and Medlej died

    in the attack.

    6The Millenium attack plots were terrorist attacks planned tooccur on or near Jan. 1, 2000. One of the plans, orchestratedby Ahmed Ressam (an Algerian who lived for a time inMontreal), was to bomb Los Angeles International Airport(LAX). The plan was later foiled by police.
